Please give details about your initial education and forming years of life.I was raised in Patna for the first eight years of my life, after which my family moved to Kolkata. I completed my schooling from Garden High School, Kolkata, and later studied English Literature at Lady Brabourne College under Calcutta University. Finally, I received a Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism from the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC). Most of my childhood memories consist of my grandfather reading me stories, which sowed the first seeds of my obsession with storytelling and all things literary.How did you get interested in literature? What inspired you to write? Everything that happened in my life served as inspiration at one point or another, as well as the stories of other people whom I met or read about. I have also always been inspired by movies and TV shows, and routinely get obsessed with characters, whom I then proceed to write about and reinterpret in my own stories and poems.I guess my interest in literature was first born partly because of my grandfather, who would read stories to me every afternoon before we took a nap. That made me curious about storytelling, because I wanted to learn more about the characters and the world, even after the story was over. It was a mixed blessing, really, because I spent most of my student life hiding novels under my textbooks and almost flunking several exams as a consequence.What difficulties did you have to face with respect to literary work? Anything worth doing is hard to do, you know? The more you care about what you're doing, the more difficult it is, because you worry about the smallest mistakes and want the final product to be perfect. You also worry about what other people will think, whether or not reviewers and readers would like it, whether something might be misinterpreted, etc. But that's a good thing, really, because it wouldn't matter so much if you didn't love the work. The fact that it's difficult only proves that you're constantly trying to get better. When it stops being a challenge, that's when you need to start worrying.What is your view about the present day literary work? I think we're living in one of the best times in the history of humanity, in terms of literature, or artistic work of any kind. The variety and scope of opportunities that modern writers have is absolutely unprecedented. Earlier, in order to find an audience, you had to find a publisher who'd agree to invest in you, you had to then write in a way that would appeal to the largest section of people possible, to ensure that your publisher made a profit. Or you had to be insanely rich in order to opt for vanity publication, which was very expensive.Now, in various corners of the Internet, you can find all types of literary work – from fanfiction to poetry, novels to flash fiction, there is a place for everything. And all you need to access it is a smartphone and a data plan. And for the most part, you don't really have to worry about being censored or redacted. Writers have never been more free to experiment, try out new things, and have their voice be heard by people around the world.Do you think that the emergence of digital and social media has given a new opportunity to creative writers? Absolutely. I think that the Internet is the best invention since the printing press for writers and creatives in general.Please tell us something about your literary work. I write across mediums and genres. So far, I've written two and a half novels, more than fifty poems, numerous articles, four short stories, and two fanfiction stories. Really, it depends on the type of emotion I'm trying to convey at that point. Almost everything I've ever written can be found on my blog. Well, apart from the novels. Those can be found on Amazon and also on Wattpad.What was your first literary work and how was it published? Well, I suppose my first officially published work was my novel, The Classroom Effect. It was published via Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing program around 2015.How many ways literature can contribute to society in future? In the same way that it has contributed in the past, by keeping a record of the times so that future generations can learn from our mistakes, and the present generation can reflect on the realities of the world while at the same time being entertained.Where do you see yourself after 5 years in the literary world? Writing more stories, spinning better yarns? I don't know, really. As long as I can keep writing things that interest and excite me, I'd be happy!What ways would you suggest to build a community for poets? The best way for creative people to build communities, I think, is by freely sharing their works with those who might enjoy them. You can't connect with people if they don't know you exist. And sharing has never been as easy as it is now, with the Internet. So I think poets and writers in general should take advantage of this opportunity, and share as widely and as freely as possible.What message would you like to give to aspiring new writers? Well, I'm pretty new at this myself, and I do aspire. So I'm still in the process of figuring it all out myself. If there's one thing that I have learned, though, it's that in order to do any creative work, you absolutely HAVE to give yourself the freedom to fail. You have to allow yourself to do your absolute worst work, because that's the only way to learn and get better. There's really no way around being a novice. You can't reach grade 3 without going through grades 1 and 2. If you try for perfection from the very beginning (which is what I did initially) you'll just keep disappointing yourself and never get anything done. Book Review: Kansa (Book 1 - The Killer Trilogy) by Prassant KevinSo, after a very disappointing start to February with Keepers of Kalachakra, I decided to pick this one up for a bit of light read. I was provided this book in exchange for an honest review and I would try my best to be as honest as possible. I chose this book for the sole reason that it did not promise any cheesy romance that Indian authors churn these days and the blurb provided quite an interesting read about a serial killer. Did the book live up to the expectation? Here is my take on it.Blurb (From Amazon):Over a span of ten years, he killed forty pregnant women and then vanished without a trace. After five years of silence, he is back again, seeking his next victim. Only one man can stop him - Professor Black. Maher was found unconscious in the middle of the highway and later, in the hospital, she revealed that she had escaped from a killer's house. All the details and patterns matched the serial killer 'Kansa,' who had disappeared five years ago after murdering forty pregnant women. ACP Saargi Desai was assigned to the case. She appealed to her department to bring back Professor Black to help her catch the killer. The Professor, who had a haunting past that had kept him away from the world of crime and investigation for several years, was not willing to take on this case. But the ACP managed to convince him to get on board just for this one last time. Soon after agreeing to help, the Professor realized that for the first time in his life, he had met his match. As he dug deeper into the case, everything got dirtier, the stakes went higher, and nothing was what it seemed.My Take on the Book:Imagine you are being provided a box of Bertie Bott's every flavor bean recommended by a friend and as soon as you take the first bite, you get a bad flavor. The same case happened with me while I was reading this book. Within the first 10 pages of the book, you realize the book was more of an essay rather than a thriller that was expected. Even though the plot was quite promising and had a huge potential, the book just did not live up to the expectation.What promised to be a brilliant plot falls flat due to bad editing, concurrent plot holes and inconsistency in characters. I could count almost three characters whose names changes in the course of the plot due to either spelling errors or the author took the liberty to change the name of the characters which were a synonym to the original name. What I would have preferred was if the author had taken the approach of a more dialogue-oriented story which would have added more clarity and thrill to the novel.Coming down to the characters, except for the main protagonist, none of the characters make any impact on the story. To avoid revealing any spoilers, I would just say, none of the characters did match up to their qualifications that were boasted in the book. Also, at many places, the main character would easily get his hands on things that are generally not quite accessible at many places and that added a few weird expressions on my face.There is always light at the end of the tunnel and since I have been talking quite negative about this book, let's also talk about some positives. Yes, as I mentioned earlier, the plot does seem promising and if the author ties up some of the loopholes, the novel works quite well. Also, since it is the first of the trilogy, there is a vast room for improvement in his future novels. The main protagonist does seem to be larger than life currently, but if this can be handled in future novels, it could just add to the betterment of the character and the novels. So go for it, if you want to read something interesting but where you don't have to put too much of your thinking cap on it. Also, for a person who is a fan of Bollywood Masala movies, this won't be a letdown.My Rating: 1/2 out of 5 (Hoping against hope, that the shortcomings are taken care in future novels)Book in Three Words: Thrilling. I love, love, love watching crime shows and love more Nordic noir and the temperamental detective, where the moods are as erratic and dark as the plot. Here is a list of a few I watched over the last year which has strong female leads. A few of them are incredibly edge of the seat with a fantastic plot and cast to execute them. And thankfully, the women at the center are not seeking or falling in love with the nearest good-looking man as a respite from (and sometimes at the cost of) their detective duties. They are middle-aged with children or are single and unapologetic about it, much flawed and human, yet brilliant and unwavering in their goal. Check them out and let me know others. This genre, I wish, would grow in multitudes1.The Fall: Gillian Anderson returns to the small screen as Stella Gibson and how brilliant is she? We know both the hunted and the hunter in this slow, moody, psychological thriller and yet, the cat and mouse game is less than predictable. The plot: when a Belfast murder remains unsolved, Stella Gibson (Anderson) is brought in to catch the killer. DSI Gibson soon fears that a murder spree is underway in Belfast and a killer is on the loose. An equally brilliant Jamie Dornan plays serial killer Paul Spector whose identity is known within a few minutes of the first episode, but hey, watch it and tell me if that makes it any less exciting.2. The Killing: Who killed Rosie Larsen (and other questions answered). The Killing is based on the Danish television series Forbrydelsen (The Crime) and stars Detective Sarah Linden and her loyal love-to-hate-you-hate-to-love-you sidekick Stephen Holder (I admit, I fell a bit in love with the damaged piece that was him by the end of it). Each episode ends with a cliffhanger that points of a possible killer who doesn’t turn out to be the one in the next (but of course!). In essence, the show follows the investigation of the murder of local teenager Rosie Larsen but is intertwined with others: the police investigation into the murder, the Larsen family's attempts to deal with their grief, and the fluctuating electoral fortunes of a political campaign that becomes embroiled in the case.3. Happy Valley: Oh, how much do I LOVE BBC’s crime productions? There are five on this list (barring The Killing) and I say without hesitation they have mastered the art (or science or what have you). Happy Valley is set in the Calder Valley and Catherine Cawood (Sarah Lancashire) plays a strong-willed police sergeant, still coming to terms with the suicide of her daughter, Becky, eight years earlier. She is now bringing up Becky's young son, Ryan, the product of rape. Catherine hears that Tommy Lee Royce, the man responsible for the brutal rape that impregnated Becky and drove her to suicide shortly after Ryan was born, is out of prison after serving eight years for drug charges. Catherine becomes obsessed with finding Royce, unaware that he is involved in the kidnapping of a young girl—Ann Gallagher. Things get worse as the kidnappers try to hide their tracks and Catherine grows neurotically persistent.4. Vera: Based on the Vera Stanhope novels by bestselling author Ann Cleeves, Vera (starring Brenda Blethyn in the titular role) is an employee of the fictional Northumberland and City Police. She is obsessive about her work and driven by her own demons. She plods along in a constantly disheveled state but has a calculating mind, and despite her irascible personality, she cares deeply about her work and comrades (-- from Wikipedia). Everything about her screams motherly and cantankerous, yet she is a formidable force to watch. And you will grow very fond of her by the end of it.5. The Honourable Woman: Not a detective series this but I couldn’t help adding it to the list. THW is a political spy thriller which is so nail-bitingly good, you have to watch now. It features Maggie Gyllenhaal in the title role (isn’t that the new, happy trend: small screen revival projects for the out-of-work or fading big screen stars?). She won a Golden Globe for it. Totally deserved, may I add? Gyllenhaal plays Anglo-Jewish businesswoman Nessa Stein who eight years earlier became the new head of the Stein Group after her brother abruptly stepped down. As she continues her work to maintain the Middle East peace process, old secrets come to the fore and bodies pile up. The stakes are raised high when Kasim, the son of Atika, Nessa's friend as well as Ephram Stein's Palestinian housekeeper, is kidnapped.6. Top of the Lake: Okay, to be honest, this is not one of my favorites. I thought the plot fell a bit flat towards the end. But the characters and the settings are quirky and unique and the whimsical style of storytelling reasons enough to watch. The drama stars Elizabeth Moss (someone I admired in Mad Men and will, till the end of life, know as Peggy Olson). She plays Detective Robin Griffin, a Sydney police officer returning to her remote New Zealand hometown of Laketop, facing the crimes surrounding the pregnancy and disappearance of a local 12-year-old girl, Tui.7. Spiral (Engrenages): Another one to add to the list is the French BBC Drama - Spiral: Engrenages - broadcast on Canal+. It stars two powerful female characters: a quirky, obsessed, but brilliant female Police Captain Laure Berthaud, and a ruthless, corrupt and beautiful female lawyer Joséphine Karlsson, both caring less about the many feathers they ruffle. These female characters are primary to the plot and rarely was their gender invoked in relation to their job role or position of power. This feminist observation apart, the 12 part series is gripping: the characters etched out in great detail (I felt for each of them in their individual disasters and triumphs), their relationships and challenges realistic, and the three subplots cleverly executed and tied together. A minor quibble was the need to look at the subtitles constantly, but I swear by end of it I could speak a little bit of French myself.8. Marcella: Err... another British television crime noir detective series. Yeah, mea culpa, but I do like them so much! They are astonishingly atmospheric—a trait I look for in everything I read or watch—the cast and setting need to grow on me. The series stars Anna Friel as Marcella Backland, a former London detective who is asked to return to work to investigate an unsolved case from eleven years ago involving an unidentified serial killer who appears to have become active again. What I love best is she is un-coplike, almost vulnerable and thus, very relatable. Series 2 started airing in Feb, 2018 and I can’t wait for it to come to Netflix.Homeland and House of Cards are the other two wildly popular series with strong female leads. Might I also dare add Game of Thrones season 6? Finally, we have women sailing to conquer worlds and play both the hero and the villain. We have come a long way.But you know what else I wish for now? That the victims of these murders are not women! YES, let’s write a book or make a TV series where the victims of the serial killer is not a WOMAN? Yes, yes, please? I know, we make a pretty picture no matter what, but let’s not have any more cowering and whimpering. Just for a change.About the writer: Smita Bhattacharya is an author based out of Mumbai. Indian ElectionElections is basically a decision which is taken by the public to choose an individual to run a district, state or a country. Elections not only help in forming a government but it also helps in private organizations.The election came in practice from the Vedic period. The king used to elect another king from their sons. At that time there was no role of the public in elections. When the country did not get free and there was British rule in India, elections were held at that time also. But when India got independent, Indian public also got an opportunity to participate in the electoral process and to vote his/her choice of an individual. The process of vote transactions is called the election which is used to maintain the status of democracy.  These political programs began to establish in the year 1950 and were established in the form of the non-lateral program. In 70’s election were held after every 5 years. The election commission is the main functioning body which conducts and regulates the election. The schedule is also prepared by the election commission. This commission is a constitutional body. It prepares the electoral rolls, voter id cards and makes an election booth where the public can come and vote for their individual. This body keeps an eye on everything happening in a booth so that no discrepancy should occur. It also appoints staff for supervising the election. The commission issues some code of conduct and all the party have to strictly follow certain codes. These code of conduct are basically some guidelines which need to be followed by political parties and candidates. On the day of the election, people used to visit the booth and vote for their candidate either through ballot paper method or electronic method. The voting is done area wise and once the process voting is completed the counting of votes are done in the presence of candidates. The one who gets the largest number of votes is declared elected by the district magistrate.The scenario of Indian election- In India, a person above the age of 18 has the right to vote and play a prominent role in forming a government. The preparation of election starts in advance. Every party finds a way to convince people to vote them by making banners, poster or organizing rallies and meeting people and giving a speech to convince them. Some also try to convince people by going door to door for votes. There is a chief officer is assigned to each and every polling booth who supervise all the arrangements and ensures that voting is done fairly and smoothly.  The voting begins in the morning and ends at 5pm. But there are some parties who use unfair means of getting votes. These parties give money to poor people and many more things just for getting votes.  They create a political atmosphere. Just because of these guys India is not able to grow. Today everyone wants to be an engineer or a doctor but no one wants to be a politician. In fact, everyone just ignores the politics happening in front of them just by thinking why to dip our hands in this. In my point of view a sweeper is much better than these politicians, at least he dumps in sewage and cleans the dirt of the city.After 70 years of independence also India is said to be a backward country and the reason is public. We are the one encourages corruption and for some money, we give a vote to the wrong party who does not deserve to be elected. We are the one who thinks of ourselves and not about our country and just say that politics has ruined our country. Its neither politics nor corruption it's we who have destroyed our country.In India, there are many ways through which unfair polling is done. Either the politicians bribe the public or they give them warning to give them vote or else they will hurt them or their respective family members. Even these politicians bribe the officials to change the counting of the vote. No one knows how they did but they did it.    Constitution of India is the supreme law and this law is been copied by other countries law. Our constitution is a compilation of many countries law and this shows why India is still a developing country. India is a democratic country, we are secular and we must have a separate constitution. If this change is done it might change our country.Apart from this India is captured by reservation also. Even in elections reservation quota is there in which some Lok Sabha seats are allocated to reserved category. In India’s Parliament, there are 543 seats and out of which 84 are reserved for another category. This reservation is now misused by the politicians for their vote bank. The politicians have an added advantage over this category for their vote bank. They support a reserved category to get some votes. This nuisance is supported by them just for a vote. Reservation is a painkiller. Instead of killing the problem, nipping it in the bud, they hide the symptom and harm the body in the long run. Reservations by design, cannot help those who are genuinely oppressed, but only those who are incompetent.Importance of voting-Voting is important because it gives the right to a common person to choose his or her ruler. The public gets an indirect control over the functioning of government and they also have the power to raise a voice against unfair meansVoting is our right and we all should actively participate in the election and only then we’ll have good governance.Today India is also on his knees and it needs someone to who can run this country properly.If we all can come together and fight for GST then we all can also fight for corruption. First, we need to change ourselves then only we can change the world. Instead of promoting Swachh Bharat Abhiyan first we should look inside ourselves and become a Swachh person then only India can become Swachh.

Well, you all must’ve heard about this novel, Harry Potter (I bet you opened this blog after reading this popular novel’s name in my title, which shows you know about it). Before starting this off, I want to share that I am also a big Potterhead, in other words, a big Harry Potter Fan.Before becoming such a big Harry Potter fan, I hated it a lot. It was because my sister was all into it and she wouldn’t stop stating the name. But, once when my Agatha Christie novel series finished, I started finding for a new series to read. Then I thought about trying to read and analyse the Harry Potter series. I have started it and now, I think why were there only seven years and seven novels (excluding the Hogwarts Library). My night is incomplete without reading at least one chapter or more of Harry Potter.So, yesterday I opened this app Pinterest, and I was searching for the famous and well-known author, J.K. Rowling (of course the author of Harry Potter series). Then, I started seeing so many fan posts appreciating the author and her work. I myself was happy to see that. After some time, I was sitting idle scratching my hair because of all the sweat and heat. Then I started to think about why is this series so famed and celebrated. The prime reason of this series’ popularity is that you can’t resist reading it.From hating it and now becoming a huge fan of it, I know what it is all about. J.K. Rowling’s writing skills and personality is an inspiration to me. I am a lot into writing and I desire to be as good and creative as her. Now if I see anyone not knowing about Harry Potter, even a stranger, I would say ‘Duh! You silly and purposeless creature on Earth! Are you mad? Several characters role play shows instantaneously in this book, like a historical drama based move rolling.Coming to the story, in the last book we had seen that Vivasan pujari was sentenced to mrit karavas like a hell type place and on the next day numerous torture done by King Chandrashekhar army. He landed to the west of Harappa, at the place of Sura, the mighty demon king, with the extreme mental country of in search of revenge of the fatality of his beloved soul mate Sanjana and his single son. The mighty king agrees to help him, but in exchange for something, which stunned the great devta for an instant. On the other end in Banaras, Vidyut flabbergasted and immobilized to see the sudden alteration of Bala, his brotherhood friend. Language and narration are breath-taking from its first page of the book. Mythology was never my cup of tea, but recently I have read few amazing mythology related novels including this and I just loved it now. I was gripped and enthralled by the transformation of the pujari into evil. Saptrishi and Vidyut played and justified their role. The cover is not unique still simple and good it could have been better. The title is catchy, this book I never thought will be released soon I must pat on the back of author for his creativity and imaginations!4/5 to this book!

Nowadays, literature is good but modernized & uses more complex words whilst the message is lost inside it. Can't conclude since the above opinion is based on few readings. I guess A reader is the best critic to comment on this.Q: Do you think that the emergence of digital and social media has given a new opportunity to creative writers? A: Yes, digital media in this generation has given opportunities for everyone interested in writing but we must create a new platform to encourage young writers and take literary work to another level like other forms of art.Q: Please tell us something about your literary work. A: Most of what I write revolves around the thoughts that arise in mind due to few situations and things happening around, to the lessons learnt from life experiences till date. Subject plays a major role. that's how most of the poems are born & takes life. I don't know many complicated words to be used & also various forms of poems. My basic idea of writing is that it should at least be useful to those who read & must convey good message or meaning.Q: What was your first literary work and how was it published? A: I'm just a soul interested in literature and writing has given me lot of peace and happiness. I don't have my literary work published yet. The first piece of story/poem I wrote was “One Winter Morning” (have submitted in StoryMirror & waiting for content approval). Still a learner. Long way to go.Q: How many ways literature can contribute to society in future? A: Literature has the ability to awaken minds of lot of people in many ways. It is the base or evidence to history. Ancient literature, stories, drama, poetries, scientific work/research have the potential to impact the future & generations to come.Q: Where do you see yourself after 5 years in the literary world? A: As stated earlier, I'm still a learner in this vast ocean of literature. It's a dream to see ourselves better & wise while we continue our journey. Let's see… until then I'll keep writing & improving but will never stop what's started.Q: What ways would you suggest to build a community for poets? A: We must have mentors and fellow writers to correct us and provide inputs. Q:Please give details about your initial education and forming years of life.A: I am a student currently pursuing my B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, BHU, Varanasi. I completed my elementary education from my hometown itself in Bihar. For my secondary education and JEE preparation, I went to Sri Chaitanya, Vishakhapatnam               Q: How did you get interested in literature? What inspired you to write? A: It was under the light of my teachers, in class eighth, where my interest in literature grew. But my maturity in poetry owes its presence to the couple of years I spent preparing for JEE. It was here when solitude became my best companion, and I composed poems prolifically. Q: What difficulties did you have to face with respect to literary work? A: I love to ponder over things and discuss about them. I am an avid reader of the writers of the Renaissance era and romantic poets, and I have found them the most difficult to comprehend. My urge to write sometimes also clashes with my academic schedule, but I try to manage both effectivelyQ: What is your view about the present-day literary work?A: When it comes to contemporary writers and modern literature, I love them equally, as I find their work symbolic of the society, I live in. I usually trifle with my mobile phone a lot these days reading random poets and authors, and it's their work only from which I learn.Q: Do you think that the emergence of digital and social media has given a new opportunity to creative writers? A: I strongly believe that the emergence of digital and social media platforms has helped budding writers to reach out to a large number of readers. It has helped them to establish themselves before they got published. I too am no exception in this.Q: Please tell us something about your literary work.A: My writings mostly reflect what an ordinary person would usually overlook. I try to find poetry in almost everything around myself. As is the case with most of the writers, initially the theme of my poems used to be centered around 'love', but now I write about a number of topics, including love, Nature, past experiences, desires etc.Q: What was your first literary work and how was it published? A: I remained a 'recluse' poet for almost over a span of five years since I began writing, but now have started reaching out to the people, thanks to the various social media platforms. My poem titled 'Meera' is getting published in an anthology by Delhi Poetry Slam soon, and I am very ecstatic about it. I also maintain a page quivering glimpses on Instagram, where I usually post most of my worksQ: Where do you see yourself after 5 years in the literary world?A There are several things on my mind which I wish to achieve in the next five years. The foremost thing is to build a readership for me. Till then I am in no mood to get myself published. Since I have started lately reaching out to people, I guess I would need some years to get recognized among the readers. But to be honest, after five years, I want myself to be sitting in the sun and reading a book of my own. Plus having completed reading around 150 books. Q: What ways would you suggest on building a community for poets?A: I strongly advocate the use of social networking sites for building a community for poets. Since the talent is strewn across the globe, to bring them together one needs a platform. And I can't think of a better option than these social sites. I also urge the conduction of various literary activities, book festivals and workshops, where poets can come together, showcase their works and learn too from others.Q: What message would you like to give to aspiring new writers? A To the aspiring new writers, I would ask them to always remember ' A writer is a reader first '. Before you write, read as much as you can. Trying to express oneself requires words, and these books are what gives you, your treasure. Additionally, never try to constrain yourself in the maze of 'writing for others'. Write what you love to write about as it what that will give you satisfaction. Be a poet at heart!Q: How was your experience of writing on StoryMirror? A: My experience of writing here was pretty good. It offers a platform for anybody who wants to write and get recognized. And since it incorporates all the major languages, you can choose any language you want to write in.
