All You Should Know About Epilepsy
 17 April 2019

Epilepsy is a brain disorder which causes repeated seizures. There are many various types of epilepsy as well as many different kinds of seizures. Epilepsy can come in the way of life, especially when seizures keep happening. To control their seizures, people with epilepsy might take medicine, have surgery, or follow a special diet. One can live a normal life if he takes proper Epilepsy treatment. Below few things are pointed out what you should know:1. Epilepsy is quite common. In fact, you might know people around you having epilepsy. In 2015, approximately 3 million adults (age 18 and older) and 470,000 children (age 17 years or younger) had active epilepsy in the United States. That’s around 3.4 million people, that are more than the number of people who live in Montana, Delaware, and New Hampshire combined.2. People with Epilepsy Can Also Live a Happy Life. Many of the people with epilepsy can do the exact same things that people without epilepsy do. There are too many successful people with epilepsy who work in sports, medicine, government, entertainment, and other professions.Individuals with uncontrolled seizures or severe types of epilepsy face more challenges and also find it difficult to work or go to school daily. Few adults dealing with epilepsy have a hard time finding jobs, transportation, and affording medical care.3. Seizure first aid is uncomplicated to give.Around 1 out of 10 people may have a seizure at some stage in his or her lifetime. That means seizures are common, and one day you may need to help someone. First aid for seizures involves helping the person to be safe until the seizure stops on its own and knowing when to call the doctor for emergency help.It has become necessary that professionals such as school nurses and other school staff, law enforcement, first responders, and childcare workers understand the concept of epilepsy and how to offer first aid. CDC provides training programs for these groups through a partnership with the Epilepsy Foundation.4. Seizures can look different than you expect. What comes to mind when you talk about a seizure? In the movies and on TV, many a times they show a person falling to the ground, shaking, and becoming unaware of what’s going on around them. That’s one type of seizure, but it’s a very rare one. Many a times, a person dealing with a seizure may seem confused, stare into space, wander, make unusual movements, or can’t answer questions or talk. At times it is hard to tell when a person is having a seizure, so it’s necessary to learn how to recognize different types of seizures.5. Few Causes of Epilepsy Are Preventable.Epilepsy can be caused by various conditions that affect a person’s brain. Sometimes, doctors don’t know the cause. Traumatic brain injuries, some infections such as cysticercoids, (which are the leading cause of epilepsy worldwide), stroke, as well as pregnancy complications are several preventable causes of epilepsy.

Please give details about your initial education and forming years of lifePresently,I am a student of class 5, studying in Prudence School, New Delhi. How did you get interested in literature? What inspired you to write?I am not sure, how it began. I use to finish my school work very fast and would then start writing on bits of paper, loose sheets and in diary. Once my mom asked me to write about 'my most unforgettable moment'. I wrote about my late grandmother. After reading it, my parents, immediate family members, got very emotional. That's how I think my potential was realized by my mom. She encouraged me to write more and meanwhile got to know about this platform 'StoryMirror'. First time when I posted my story on StoryMirror, and the first 'Like' I got from someone unknown to me, acted as a catalyst. Since then, there has been no stopping. What difficulties did you have to face with respect to literary work?I keep writing because I love writing. I have not faced any problem except asking for votes. What is your view about the present day literary work?I like literature because it gives me ideas, increases my vocabulary, makes me more sensitive. Everytime I read a new story, there is a new reality to discover. I love reading fiction like Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Roald Dahl series, Geronimo Stilton etc. The joy of reading these works is immense, as it takes me to an entirely different world of pleasure and fantasy.Do you think that the emergence of digital and social media has given a new opportunity to creative writers?Yes, because through digital and social media, the reach to read has increased immensely. Please tell us something about your literary workI like writing and reading about crime,  different people, places and also about fiction. What was your first literary work and how was it published? My poems have been published in 'Hindustan Times' newspaper. My first poem which was published in the newspaper was 'Thank You'. I was appreciated by my teachers, classmates and my parents. How many ways literature can contribute to society in future? It is a very strong medium, through which views of people, emerging issues of the society, entertainment for everyone and intellect/passion of the writers can be beautifully expressed and penned.Where do you see yourself after 5 years in the literary world?I see myself in the hearts of my friends, peers, teachers and everyone else in the school and place where I live.  Five years from now, I will be in class Xth, and I would then like people following my poems, favorite poets endorsing them and also have more ways and platforms to express my views. What ways would you suggest to build a community for poets?Digital media is a good way to interact and share the work. Also various institutions should come forward and recognize poems as a strong medium of expression. What message would you like to give to aspiring new writers?Do what you Love and Love what you Do.How was your experience of writing on StoryMirror? It was very inspiring, great learning and a very good platform to channelize and express my views through story/ poems. I felt very motivated every time my poem got selected by StoryMirror. Would you like to say something about StoryMirror? StoryMirror is a very strong, motivating channel to bring out the creative skill of budding writers. For me, I also liked reading other stories/ poems posted on StoryMirror. It was a good way to interact and know about others and their beautiful work. Here is the link to read my content https://storymirror.com/profile/kytwvmko/agrata-verma/stories

The Best Medicine

The Best MedicineTopics of discussions with friends hover around different issues at different ages. As teenagers, we discussed about our challenges in learning, adolescent problems, etc.  In our youth, we discussed about our dreams of our future, life-partners, career, etc.  A few lucky ones discussed about their love affairs, which had happy ending!  Then came our middle age, when we were busy managing our families and careers and very rarely got to meet our friends.  Whenever we met, the discussion was about how we did the balancing act, our children’s responses, concerns about their education, behaviour and so on.  Children grew up and entered teens and then we had the challenge of handling them.  God knows whether our parents thought about this challenge so much, because the exposure that we had as teenagers was so limited.  Time passed and our children left homes in search of greener pastures.  They found their life partners and the focus now is on their new families.  This is a natural cycle but we all started feeling the pain of empty nests.  We were left to tend to our aged parents and hence when we meet people, what we mostly discuss is ‘health’ or rather ‘ill-health’!  It is not that death is the trend now and it never occurred in the yesteryears but death did not haunt us as much as it does now.  We keep hearing about the demise of the elders in the family, our friends, our colleagues and that keeps reminding us that the time is ticking away.  What haunts us more than death is the age-related complications before we actually embrace death!  Thus all we discuss is about exercise, prevention of certain chronic diseases, management of chronic diseases, weight-loss, diet, medicines, labs, hospitals, doctors - Oh!Do we really get respite from such thoughts and discussions?  We do, if only we go back in time!  How do we do that?  Thanks to technology, we are able to connect to our old friends, friends who can make us feel young!  Recently, we connected through WhatsApp and fifteen of us, who schooled together met up in Secunderabad!  Wow!  I tell you!  Nothing can be as invigorating as attending a school reunion!  Many of my classmates live in Hyderabad/Secunderabad and they took the lead and organised the reunion painstakingly.  We were lucky to get in touch with eight of our teachers.   We invited the teachers to our school Keyes High School, Secunderabad, which was established in 1881.  We felicitated them and sought their blessings.  They were so touched and were genuinely happy that we had all done well in our lives and careers and our children have excelled in their fields.  In fact, one of our teachers said, ‘Seeing your vigour and enthusiasm and your fresh memories I feel like gathering you all in a classroom and conducting a lecture!”We then spent hours in a service apartment, sharing all those golden memories, reliving every incident.  Each of us had something to share.  One of us is a gynaecologist and she shared many of her professional experiences in a very witty manner.  All of us spoke about our marriages and some of us had juicy news about love affairs!  We spoke about the play ‘Panchali Sabadam’, which our classmates had staged on the annual day! We pulled each other’s legs, laughed heartily and even danced and sang!  All of us went back in time by 46 years, putting aside all our present worries, pains and sorrows!  Three days just flew by.  When the time came for us to depart, we were all sad but all of us decided that we had to organise such meets more often in future, getting some more of our friends into the loop.  A few more friends have joined the group since then and are now very eagerly waiting for the second reunion, which we are organising in our garden city in December.  This is the b medicine for all ailments in this age!  Do take this medicine in higher dosages!

Child Anxious behavior symptoms
 21 October 2019

Severalparents are concerned nowadays that anxiety and stress are increasing more dominant and toxic in their children’s lives. This might be correct, though it’s also true that moderate anxiety assists children to push to success in every aspect. It is ordinary to impression anxious while performing a test or school play. We assume children to be worried at the doctor’s clinic or when confronted with a new situation. But when children are anxious all the time or when their nervousness is inconsistent with the situation, there may be a bigger problem such as an anxiety disorder. When people state anxiety, they are referring to Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), which we cover in more complexity below. Occasionally, they work to release anxiety through repetitive physical or mental behaviours called compulsions.Child anxiety assessment is done face-to-face to diagnose children, and complete evidence is obtained on the symptoms of their frequency, duration, severity, and level of distress or interference. It is essential to ask a child about his/her specific thoughts, which trigger particular avoidant or anxious behaviour in them.Children or youngsters with OCD have some common obsessions listed below:Fear of dust, germs or pollutionA need for order and precisionReligious obsessionsBeing superstitiousSexual or violent thoughtsFear of sickness or harm coming to oneself or familyDisturbing sounds or wordsCommon Signs of Generalized Anxiety Disorder for Children Trouble falling asleepFear of being alonePicking at skinNail-bitingStrong startle responseBeing overly self-criticalOCD-like Suddenly avoiding social contactFrequent urinationRefusing visits to the school,Trouble joining in class and interacting with peersUnnecessary worry about everyday thingsTrouble responding to questions when called on by the teacherDisruptive behaviourFidgetingEveryday trips to the nurse with complaints of headaches, nausea, stomachaches, or even vomiting.Avoiding socialising or group workNot turning in homework

Awaken The Jackson You Are.
 24 March 2018

Review: The Lightning Thief, in Heroes of Olympus, Rick RiordonImagine being a half happy. Being half sad. Being half of any expression or substance and not completely belonging to a clan or community which you can call your own. Imagine not being able to belong anywhere. Percy was one such character.Rick Riordon with his first novel in the series of Percy Jackson And The Olympians crafts one of the best selling fiction books and etches his name in the world of fantasy literature. In his book, the protagonist, Percy Jackson is anatomically, a half blood being. An exciting blend of human and a god.(That consternation when you imagine humans and Gods procreating!) Adapting many characters from the Greek Mythology of heroes and demons, Riordin traverses the readers through a world where the spectator wants to enter this realm of fantasy and live through it.The book starts to make a direct peak in the young readers life, by showing the Jackson’s tough time surviving in school because of his dyslexic nature. After having changed his school umpteen times, he gives up and makes his up his mind to settle and work towards his improvement in his personal and official life. He lives a normal teenage life, with his mother (who is more human than the two parents!) which comes with its own qualms. He tackles his love interest, reads top rated books and struggles in class like you would expect an average teenager to handle his life to be. Hence making it one of the best reads in fantasy novel section in a student’s and adult’s library too. The twist in his destiny comes when he experiences a tiff with one of his professors. Which is unusual since Percy is one docile creature. The tiff brews into a battle where his real identity is revealed and Percy is welcomed to the world of monsters and gods. After a heated battle and a headfull of mind numbing confusions, Percy returns to his house and is promised by his mom to be taken to his favorite Beach in Mantauk. At Mantauk start the real cat -dog race between dreams and reality. His greatest fear and unsettling notion of not being able to fit anywhere suitable for him and experiencing an unknown power over water gets to him and is teleported. Rordion makes this transition seem so swift and endearing it relates to every student’s transition to high school years, which makes it one of the best children’s books. He is taken to a place where he belongs, Camp Half Blood, and made to introduce with his new group of mates who are just as unique in their genealogy as he is. He, along with his favorite friend,Grover who now has become his satyr are introduced to a world of magic, sorcery and witchcraft. Percy finds himself in the mirror by the masters and centaurs who teach him about his life their and his identity unravels as the son of Poseidon- god of the sea. While Percy is following a strict and lax regime at the same time in his real home, meeting with other Demi-gods(Annabeth) (We ship them together!), things take toll in his personal life as his mom gets kidnapped and the world basically starts to tear down. In such a hassle to understand the reasoning behind these events, he is informed of another accusation made on him the Olympians. He becomes a target under suspicion when the king of the Gods,i.e Zeus’s lightening bolt gets stolen. Percy travels through many worlds and crosses his boundaries on the quest to decipher the thief and clear his name. He encounters many hellhounds, monsters and Oracle prophecies get to Percy just like his examinations and social gatherings used to. He learns and masters his skills and spearheads his connect with water through his half stallion, half human teacher, Chiron and uses them to protect Annabeth, Grover against trouble. While getting rid of Hades and his callous tricks to stop Percy from his pursuit to trap him and his team, he exercises his full power and shows his wrath to the God of Wrath himself. Nobody messes with the son of Sea! After passing all the hurdles and dodging arrows, Percy finally is able to restore the peace amongst the gods in Olympus and he goes onto retrieve his mother as well. A well crafted novel revolving around Greek Gods and monsters become very relatable because of the author’s simplistic and innovative expression makes it an impressive story book in english for adults as well. All turning out well at last, but this is just the latest in the series of new novels under the Heroes Of Olympus by Rick!
