www.

Stepping out of my cocoon
 Ipsa Arora
 2 March 2018

“Hello dad, my internship location is a different city, 2000 kilometres away! My friends are planning to book train tickets and it will take nearly 36 hours to reach.” I was blabbering on the phone standing in the corridor outside my classroom. I was expecting my dad to say, “Never mind. Both of us will book our flight tickets, I will take you there, meet your office people, book you a hostel for two months, talk to the hostel warden, check food facilities and everything else and ensure that you are in the best of your comfort zone.” Instead, he said, “Yes, go ahead. You also book your ticket along with your friends.” I was frozen for a minute. “But dad, it is a 36 hour long journey!” I said. “Yes, that’s okay. If your friends don’t want to go by air, you go with them by train. It will be fun.” He tried to comfort me. I stood there for another few minutes wondering how I would manage all of it on my own. I had never stepped out of home without my parents’ guidance and that was my cocoon I refused to step out of.Now, I was being given only 18 days to prepare myself for this 2 month long journey far away from home. My batch mate booked train tickets for 5 of us who were going and I was glad that at least I escaped one task. I was extremely nervous. 18 days passed with the blink of an eye. The away-from-home mission started with the train journey, the second of my life so far. But like my friends and my parents had said, the journey was fun. 5 of us immediately bonded and endured our 36 hours playing dumb charades and other games. We reached early morning and stepping foot on a different land comprising of different people, speaking a different language and most importantly, me being away from my parents was like being on an expedition for me.But now, when I recollect those days, I feel those were among the best days of my life and I cherish each memory I have of that place. Roaming on the streets with luggage and hunting for a hostel, negotiating with the hostel warden for the fee and settling my things in the wardrobe were the first few things I did on my own. At home, I was a spoilt child and had never entered the kitchen except for taking food or keeping my utensils in the sink. In the hostel, besides taking food from the kitchen, I washed my utensils, packed mine and my friend’s lunch and even warmed milk on the stove in the middle of a night for a friend who had hurt her foot and couldn’t walk. I even learnt to wash clothes, iron them, withdraw money from a bank, go grocery shopping, interact with people not knowing my language and so many other things I couldn’t have done staying in my own city at my own home.At the internship, my boss assured me that it was a safe city and I could travel around for events and work. I managed to do 18 events in the two months, a number the company was yearning to reach in the two years they had been operating for. Everybody appreciated my work at office.I learnt to not only take care of my own self but of my friends too. They had started teasing me by calling me mommy, the one who was always worried if everybody was eating well, was in their respective rooms before the deadline at night, was reaching office on time, etc. I also became the accounts in charge for the 5 of us, who owed whom how much and why, I kept a record of all of it.Being a strong and chirpy girl most of the time, at some other times I broke down too, on the day of my childhood friend’s wedding when I could not be her bridesmaid, when my grandmother suffered a minor heart attack and I couldn’t be there beside her bed and sometimes, just like that, not knowing why.But overall, I am glad that I went there stepping out of my cocoon. I learnt a lot of household chores, a lot from my internship, made a lot of new friends and most importantly, learnt a lot about my own self!

Harvey Leigh Cantwel aka HRVY  is the guy of every teenage girl’s dream. With sky blue eyes and a ruffled blonde hairdo, the 19 year old lad is a fountain of talent. Seated at the Bottomline Media office, in a pair of torn jeans and a dark blue kurta, with his management team all around, when we meet HRVY, he’s like your boy next door, casual and down to earth. His first ever live performance at Hard Rock Cafe in Mumbai was sold out with many claiming his performance was truly astounding. He had the girls literally falling for him. His alluring face, million dollar smile and attractive looks, all go to make him a real charmer. HRVY is today one of the most searched singers with his video Personal clocking about 50 million views to date. His songs Phobia, Holiday and the latest single Personal are hot favourites with teens, with their lyrics, most stemming from HRVY’s personal life experiences. HRVY is a social media sensation on platforms such as Instagram and Twitter Before his fame on social media, HRVY was a presenter on BBC’s Friday Download. After that he took to social media and released his first EP, Holiday on 25th July, 2017. While his name is on every teens lips, we can’t but wonder, why the Londoner from Kent, chose HRVY and not his real name. We choose to find out this and lot more when The Teenager Today’s music columnist Verus Ferreira got exclusive access to the dashing youngster. Here are excerpts from that conversation:So everyone wants to know the reason for the change in name. Can you tell us where the ‘a’ and ‘e’ disappeared? My team thought we might take out the vowels ‘a’ and ‘e’, and see how it sounds and make my name sound a bit different. It just stuck What music did you listen to while you were growing up?I listened to U2, songs that my dad used to play in the car. I also like Justin Timberlake, he’s great, then there’s a singer Craig David from the UK and a lot of people who were on the charts while I was growing up. So when did the real love for music light up in you?Music got my fancy at a young age when I was like five or six when I first got to understand what music really was and really enjoyed listening to it. By the time I was 13, I decided that music was what I wanted to do. I had posted a cover of a song on Facebook called ‘Simply Amazing’ by American singer Trey Songz. I shared it around on Facebook and it got a lot of traction for me and it just reached a new high. Then my manager thought I should make a video of it with me singing in it and yeah that’s how it really clicked. So it was a Facebook video which appeared on YouTube. Do songs like Phobia, Holiday, or Personal, give out a message to all your fans? Well not really, I mean, we just write about how we feel which is a concept on how we all work. I like Holiday which is a bit of fun, while Phobia was like more of heart break song, and I know people would like that kind of stuff, it’s just got that romantic side to it. So do these songs stem from your real life experiences? Some of it kind of influenced it a bit, while some of it isn’t, and some is just made up. Well going back in time I liked this girl and so it comes from there. Well the songs are a little bit of my own experiences, and so like I said, like Personal has a line about my ex girlfriend, with a line... you used to flirt with your friends. And as I said I guess a lot is also made up. Every artist goes to a lot of obstacles to reach the top, you have succeeded quite easily. How did you do it?I feel like my career is only just started, and I am sure there will be some obstacles in the way in the future. I think for now it’s been pretty okay, I’ve been on the top, so I’m fine. Your EP ‘Talk with Ya’ has both the songs Phobia and Personal. Phobia is slow, while Holiday is a bit up tempo. How do the fans react to such songs? The fans really like Phobia because it’s much slower, while Personal is danceable, which is really good, so they get a chance to choose what they really like, they have both, songs that they can chill out to at a party and the other to just listen to. Besides singing do play any musical instruments?I really want to learn the piano; I think it’s a very beautiful instrument So in the future what songs would you like to make, slow or maybe a few dance numbers?I would like to release music that has everything, that has both slow and fast numbers.Coming to your first visit to Mumbai, when you knew you were coming to India, what is the first thought that came to your mind?I am really happy to be in India, even if it’s just 5 days. It’s amazing to see such a diverse culture out here. I love the people, they’re so friendly. Everyone who I met, asked me about how I liked the country. They were really very nice and kind to me. So have you heard or watched any Bollywood movies?I have heard a lot of Bollywood and there’s this actor that we have been talking about with my team, I think his name is Shah Rukh Khan and yes I want to watch his movies before I go or take some DVDs home with me. You also have a tour with The Vamps coming up soon, are you also planning a collaboration with them also?Yes I have a tour with them in March and about collaboration well who knows, we are all friends and it may happen. So for now, it’s just the tour with them and just have some fun and yes we want to come to India again. I love the country and will be here again soon. The Vamps are supposed to be on tour in India in June this year and I’m coming back with them. Do you plan on shooting any music videos in India, considering that there have been many artists like Coldplay who have also shot videos here? Now that I have been here I definitely want to shoot a video, and yes the next time we come to India, or maybe when we come in June and also at the end of the year, we may just decide on it. We would probably take in a bit of the Indian culture in it and yes wear something like this (points to his blue kurta). So what are your dreams and aspirations? To take over the world in a good way, musically have my music everywhere. What are your future plans?Just keep releasing songs and to release more music, travel around the world....... just to have fun.... really. What memories would you take from India?I take memories of the people, how they relate to me, the things I’ve seen on the streets, everything around me, the food. I want to try some street food, we haven’t really done that yet, we have kind of hotel food at the moment, so I want to try the dosa. So finally we come to a question many girls would want to know. Do you have a girlfriend? No (laughs). I don’t, I am singleAny message for your fans? I love you guys, thank you for being so supportive, Shukriya. Text and Photos by Verus Ferreira

Q: Please give details about your initial education and forming years of life.A: I completed my schooling, pre-university & undergraduate degree in Bangalore & have been working for 5 years. The forming years of my life were quite good to an extent though, childhood being the best part of life we all cherish inspite of the chances missed and exposure we could have had.Q: How did you get interested in literature? What inspired you to write? A: I used to browse through a couple of motivational quotes or thoughts & came across and also read few poems, novels written by various Authors in English, Kannada & Hindi languages. It helped me a lot to stay optimistic with hope. The writings of Maya Ahmed (author/writer) influenced me a lot & inspired me which is the main source of interest in literature.Q: What difficulties did you have to face with respect to literary work? A: The world of literature is very vast in itself. We have seen a lot of great Writers & their work, contribution. I wanted to start writing but had zero idea and wasn't confident enough. It all started when I was depressed over again, not knowing what to do.. browsed through a number of blogs, website & apps for writing. Found a nice platform “Mirakee”, just started writing slowly with whatever thoughts came to my mind.Q: What is your view about the present-day literary work? A: I feel the ancient work was full of meaning. Whatever you touch - from poems, stories, scriptures etc is filled with depth & message. One of many to mention - poems written by the eminent & finest poet of 19th century, Robert Frost. Nowadays, literature is good but modernized & uses more complex words whilst the message is lost inside it. Can't conclude since the above opinion is based on few readings. I guess A reader is the best critic to comment on this.Q: Do you think that the emergence of digital and social media has given a new opportunity to creative writers? A: Yes, digital media in this generation has given opportunities for everyone interested in writing but we must create a new platform to encourage young writers and take literary work to another level like other forms of art.Q: Please tell us something about your literary work. A: Most of what I write revolves around the thoughts that arise in mind due to few situations and things happening around, to the lessons learnt from life experiences till date. Subject plays a major role. that's how most of the poems are born & takes life. I don't know many complicated words to be used & also various forms of poems. My basic idea of writing is that it should at least be useful to those who read & must convey good message or meaning.Q: What was your first literary work and how was it published? A: I'm just a soul interested in literature and writing has given me lot of peace and happiness. I don't have my literary work published yet. The first piece of story/poem I wrote was “One Winter Morning” (have submitted in StoryMirror & waiting for content approval). Still a learner. Long way to go.Q: How many ways literature can contribute to society in future? A: Literature has the ability to awaken minds of lot of people in many ways. It is the base or evidence to history. Ancient literature, stories, drama, poetries, scientific work/research have the potential to impact the future & generations to come.Q: Where do you see yourself after 5 years in the literary world? A: As stated earlier, I'm still a learner in this vast ocean of literature. It's a dream to see ourselves better & wise while we continue our journey. Let's see… until then I'll keep writing & improving but will never stop what's started.Q: What ways would you suggest to build a community for poets? A: We must have mentors and fellow writers to correct us and provide inputs. It will surely impact in order to improve & also serves as encouragement which will give us new hope and interest to write more.Q: What message would you like to give to aspiring new writers? A: Keep learning and just start writing. We never know how far it will take us or we can go but the first step to start the journey is within our hands. When I, who thought that I wouldn't be able to do anything can write. Then anybody can write. You have the potential, will power & strength within you. Never let it die. Keep watering it without any expectations.Q: How was your experience of writing on StoryMirror? A: Initially it was difficult, as I was used to only one writing platform/app. It's been so good so far. *NICE , to sum up.Q: Would you like to say something about StoryMirror? A: Excellent platform and interactive (in terms of communication, support, competitions & encouraging writers). I would like to Thank, Shrestha for introducing me to StoryMirror & let me participate in “Be a poem” competition. That’s how I started writing on StoryMirror. Here is the link to read all my content https://storymirror.com/profile/ueot5z7a/divya-b-c/poems

Book Review- Europa
 Shweta Kesari
 6 April 2018

Book Review EuropaThey say, Never Judge a book by its cover, I agree. However, the cover of the book is the first thing that forces me to know more about the book, moving towards the blurb and then the story. I think the designer could have done a lot more with the cover, as the story holds so many things to tell which can be illustrated on the cover so as to gather the crowd. I think a great story deserves a great cover. Well, in this case, something more creative would do a great good to reach to a few more audiences.'Europa' is the first book for me that took me to space. When I say this took me to space, then it literally took me. The minute yet balanced details that Hywel provided for his reader did a great job for me to be in the protagonist's shoes. I liked experiencing the time in space which I never did before. Plus that, the story that took place there didn't bring confusion for me, as I got familiar with the characters participating there pretty soon. The story is designed with great effort, could be easily noticed by the work he had put up in his book. I liked the way traced has been left in mid-way, and how it unfolded later on. There was always a drop of curiosity that pushed me further into the story. Also, Hywel has a way with words. It seemed like he expresses his thoughts with great ease, that it occurred effortlessly to the readers.I was all lost in the story but the only hiccup I had during the journey is remembering all the characters by their name and recognizing who is who. As the story is not limited to few characters, there are a good number of participants who participated in the story, and keeping note of all of them at the same time was a task, especially if you are not much familiar with the names. Most of them are English names, so it was quite difficult to keep hold of all of them. There were quick changes in the stories, from space to earth, then from present to past, at times I felt lost in a maze, created by the author himself. I was looking for more clarity so that I could be more involved in the story rather than pondering what is actually happening and how is it related.Rating: 4.3/5Reviewer: Shweta Kesari

The Story of Yokohama Tyres
 Centraltyres Walsall
 22 July 2020

Yokohama Tyres is one of the topmost tyre manufacturing companies which have its roots in Japan. They produce all sorts of tyres starting from passenger tyres, van, light trucks, SUVs, bus and truck, to off-road tyres and many more. You must have come across the name at least once in your life even if you have been quite absent-minded about tyres and their brands. The existence of The Yokohama Rubber Company and then from there the Yokohama Tyre Corporation is in itself an inspirational story that gives hope to those with dreams and has the agility to make it happen.Let us hear this moving story.Inception1917 is the year of its birth as Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. This shows that 2017 was the year of the company’s centenary. With over a hundred years of experience, Yokohama cannot produce anything more than perfect tyres for all. The Yokohama Rubber Company was a project that could be possible only because of the tie-up between BF Goodrich Company of the United States with the Yokohama Electric Cable Manufacturing Company. So it is clear from this that the Yokohama group had experience in business before they entered the tyre manufacturing industry. Suekichi Nakagawa who became the second president of the company was responsible for this new venture but he was previously a director of the Yokohama Electric Cable. In 1969 the company took a giant leap by expanding its branches in the United States and called themselves the Yokohama Tyre Corporation. The company at present has become a global name and so it ranks among-st the first 10 globally popular tyre manufacturing companies. In the United States, it has two manufacturing units, one being in Salem of Virginia and the other in West Point of Mississippi. All around the globe, it is seen that the ADVAN branding became more popular under Yokohama Tyres and so Yokohama and ADVAN have become synonymous now, especially in the aftermarket.Agenda of the CompanySuekichi Nakagawa once in 1929 gave out a speech while opening a plant of Yokohama Tyres where the agenda of the company was explained clearly. According to him, Yokohama Tyres Walsallaims at rendering a social service through their work at the company by producing quality tyres committed for the whole world.Efficient production alongside improving technology is the secret behind their success and quality tyre production. Determination and growth are the most glaring features of this company which took their name from the generic manufacturers to the top 10 global tyre manufacturers.Products of YokohamaThe company also takes care of the expense associated with the different tyres of different range. Review of Wheels of Wish

Title :Wheels of WishAuthor : Bibhu Datta RoutBlurb : Imprisonment of a couple in the Dwapar Yug and the creation of magnetism at Sun temple in Konark has a great deal of linkage to a missing boy in the 13th century carrying the mightiest power of the universe that transcends in time across generations leading to an alleged rape and murder accusation to the story's protagonist, an investment banker Shashank Chaudhary in 2008 who flies from New York to Odisha to find himself trapped in an 800 years old enigma. A biological allegory that unfolds a historical and mythological mystery that counts back in time as far as the epic Mahabharata. One that surpasses time and the material world with its mathematical calculations within physical elements. Unexplainable evidences, puzzling data, conspiracy theories and unheard secrets intermingle with one another to create plots in the history of time that have been startling scientists and mythologists to date. It's now in the court room that he must face his worst fears and probably the world's greatest held secret, a rare phenomenon of a chromosomal defect, from an unexpected guest. My View : The blurb of the book will definitely fill the curiosity in the reader’s mind. The lovely cover and the title Wheels of Wishes worked completely in grasping my attention making me more curios to unfold the story residing in the book. All the characters are portrayed beautifully; the author very well briefs about the characters at the beginning of the book but still a reader may get confuse as there are numerous characters dwelling in the story. The story is locked with a lot of drama having tints of history and mythology. The way author has painted the details of history is really commendable. Author must have done a lot of research in order to portray such details clearly in his book. Portraying such kind of stories requires knowledge and skills. The tagline on the cover of the book already suggest that the story holds a crime; author has crafted the story very well and the crime revolving around the other events having details of history lands the reader on a different node. The story goes on switching its way from past events to present. The book also contains the hues of love of Shashank and Roohani, murder mystery, rape case and lot more to locate. The writing style is simple which makes the reading journey easy for me. Articulation of the sentences could be much better which will help in attracting the reader’s mind. I found the narration of the story moderate which weakens the links between the reader and the story. Fascinating Read!Rating : 3.5/5Reviewer : Megha Biloniya

Is it an accident, or a cold-blooded murder, planned to absolute perfection?Namrata, a young professional, is enveloped by all the quintessential elements of life in the fast lane a staling marriage, an extramarital affair and eyes full of dreams, until a fun evening turns into a chilling nightmare for her.Renu, a girl living in a world marred by regressive customs and dated practices, has resigned to the patriarchal ways of her world, until they begin to cast their malicious shadows on her unborn child.Their worlds, although separate, intersect each other in a single strike of tragedy that none could have imagined. They complement each other well and also is according to the story, so it’s a perfect combination.  Also the cover is attractive enough to catch attention. The story revolves around the life of protagonist Namrata and Renu and life revolves around them. The story is divided into three parts- 1st part of the book starts with an horrible accident with Namrata and Akash while travelling to Ludhiana some goons have stabbed them, Akash was badly injured and lost his life defending the goons. 2nd Part of the story is will take you to the life of Namrata, Pranav, Akash, Renu, Rakesh and Pooja, Dileep and more. The 3rd part of the book was my favorite. Never in my wildest dream would I have thought that the story would take such an unpredictable turn and that I believe sums up the success of the book. The plot is strong and the author has been able to do full justice to it. Book Title: Seductive AffairAuthor:Rishabh PuriFormat: Paper BackTotal Number of Pages: 184Language: EnglishPublisher: Srishti Publishers & Distributors;Publishing Date: 10 July 2018ISBN-10: 9387022277ISBN-13: 978-9387022270Prisha Khatri is a regular college graduate, focused on her career, desperate to finally move out of her parents’ house and freshly dumped by her successful fiancé. As their chemistry threatens to overwhelm them and Prisha is pulled deeper into the Seductive Affair, she must decide what matters most to her matters of the head or of the heart. My TakeStarting from the cover and title is enchanting. I expected it to be a dark romance thriller but it's a simple love story based on career and love. The title is misleading there is no seduction in the plot. The book is a bag of emotions, love, hate, relationship, passion, separation, trust, bond, joy, happiness, family, relationships, life, sadness, betrayal and many more. This is the story about main protagonist Prisha Khatri. Prisha getting ready for the first day of her dream job and remembering her past where her ex-fiance Aditya ditched her because she wanted to work and he wanted a wife who will sit at home, cook, raise children and take care of them. Breakup with her ex-fiance due to his insecurity, she is all set to enter corporate world, her dream job. She joins The Chronicles as in one of the leading newspapers of the country. She is attracted to Rajesh a senior reporter. Rajesh and Prisha travels for a businesses  conference in Mumbai where they find themselves getting close to each other while covering a story for their article. To find out more read the book.Language of the book is lucid and written in a simple way to comprehend for any kind of reader. I have read the author's previous work i have much expectation from this book too but i'm disappointed this time. Plot becomes predictable sometimes. The story is faced. Narration was simple and okey. The characters are good but could not able to connect with them. A few typographical errors here and there need to be rectified. If the edit was done properly, the story would have sounded much much better.I'll recommend this book to beginners for a light read.  Overall Ratings 2/5 StarsGrab the book here- Amazon.in Amazon.com Amazon.co.ukAbout the AuthorRishabh Puri is a highly accomplished entrepreneur with a flair for writing.
