We, the Innocent ............. by Dr. Navniit Gandhi
 Navniit Gandhi
 17 February 2018

Wash your utensils with this dish-cleaner and sparkle your relationships…There is saffron in the soap…There is chocolate in this shampoo… there are almonds in the face cream!Drink this tea and refresh your relationships…Drink this soft-drink and live without fear…What fools are we, at times!!!All along, some of us have wasted our time; many precious years of life, trying to find out how to lead a perfect life… Probably, you too must have spent hours, trying to understand relationships, love and life. How stupid we have been… All we could have done is to switch on the Television, and sit before it with total faith. Yes, with total faith in our advertisements!!! We could have had the keys to all that we ever wanted in life. The key to beauty; to success; to a happy family life; the key to popularity and the key to health and blossoming relationships—all could have been at our feet in a matter of a few hours… How very silly of us, that we work hard and undergo ordeals and struggles, to fulfil our aspirations!God, bless us. We know not how innocent we are! The noble companies and even nobler advertising agencies are crying hoarse, and trying to better our lives. And, we don’t take them seriously? Using music, Bollywood stars and attractive photography—they spend crores trying to make all our dreams come true, and we do not take the ads seriously?Didn’t they tell us…Spray this deodorant and girls will fall head-over-heels in love with you…Eat this cereal and your husband will start noticing you…Add this in your children’s milk and they will become great scientists!Use this fairness cream and the most handsome and eligible bachelor will be at your feet…If you drink a particular beverage daily, your Boss will be impressed and you could take a trophy home for outstanding performance…It is all so clearly stated. The world of TV Ads is a great teacher. Just sit down… relax… and carefully watch the ads. We can learn how to magically swirl ten mouth-watering dishes—one or two each for every family member and yet, not a drop of sweat shall we shed or a strand of hair move. How? Because the secret, as we would learn, would lay in the dish-washing soap!Have you not seen the ad which teaches us that if we use a particular washing-powder, husband and wives would love each other more? How? Because, the clothes would become softer and so would the hands of the lady….But, what if the washing powder is used by the maid? Would her husband love her more, or ours???? Women, take note of this puzzle!!!Oh no! How much time have we wasted trying to seriously think on some matters, whereas the solutions and lessons were all so very simple!Had we known this secret earlier, we would have had the pleasure of seeing our mothers always young, fresh and happy despite their daily laborious chores. We could have had friends drooling over our looks, and we could have made smarter choices!!! Our brain could have been sharper; our nails and hair glistening; our clothes smarter; our body odour captivating; our sleep peaceful; our taste buds rejuvenated and of course, our relationships, happier. How innocent we have been… Imagine, the key to freedom from pimples, wrinkles, and fine lines was just a remote away!Use this tooth paste-- dance and swirl and live happily thereafter…Take a loan from our bank and we will help you discover the real ‘you’…This toilet cleaner will sparkle your bathroom and your life…There are easy and readymade formulae for increasing the growth of the brain of our children… There are easy solutions for killing germs in ten seconds!! And then, our children would never fall ill even if they gulp pizzas or burgers daily. Wish we could have sat before the televisions with total faith…. We could have given our children filtered water (using modern complicated processes) and they could have topped in their respective classrooms. Are you one of those who were searching in vain for means to raise your self-esteem? Well, did you not know that with a certain brand of tea, courage and confidence comes; and with a certain soft-drink—come tumbling out clever and creative ideas? A certain can of paint is what it takes or perhaps, a bathroom-freshner to raise your esteem in the eyes of your neighbours… Ha, how easy it is, isn’t it?Watch the Advertisements for solutions to all your problems… for answers to all your questions!!! It is not too late.Ah, by the way—have you been looking for a way out to please your in-laws? Oh, ohhh…. All you had to do was prove your intelligence by using a particular mosquito coil, and pride would have surfaced in their eyes and they would have hugged you happily!!!

Stepping out of my cocoon

 2 March 2018

“Hello dad, my internship location is a different city, 2000 kilometres away! My friends are planning to book train tickets and it will take nearly 36 hours to reach.” I was blabbering on the phone standing in the corridor outside my classroom. I was expecting my dad to say, “Never mind. Both of us will book our flight tickets, I will take you there, meet your office people, book you a hostel for two months, talk to the hostel warden, check food facilities and everything else and ensure that you are in the best of your comfort zone.” Instead, he said, “Yes, go ahead. You also book your ticket along with your friends.” I was frozen for a minute. “But dad, it is a 36 hour long journey!” I said. “Yes, that’s okay. If your friends don’t want to go by air, you go with them by train. It will be fun.” He tried to comfort me. I stood there for another few minutes wondering how I would manage all of it on my own. I had never stepped out of home without my parents’ guidance and that was my cocoon I refused to step out of.Now, I was being given only 18 days to prepare myself for this 2 month long journey far away from home. My batch mate booked train tickets for 5 of us who were going and I was glad that at least I escaped one task. I was extremely nervous. 18 days passed with the blink of an eye. The away-from-home mission started with the train journey, the second of my life so far. But like my friends and my parents had said, the journey was fun. 5 of us immediately bonded and endured our 36 hours playing dumb charades and other games. We reached early morning and stepping foot on a different land comprising of different people, speaking a different language and most importantly, me being away from my parents was like being on an expedition for me.But now, when I recollect those days, I feel those were among the best days of my life and I cherish each memory I have of that place. Roaming on the streets with luggage and hunting for a hostel, negotiating with the hostel warden for the fee and settling my things in the wardrobe were the first few things I did on my own. At home, I was a spoilt child and had never entered the kitchen except for taking food or keeping my utensils in the sink. In the hostel, besides taking food from the kitchen, I washed my utensils, packed mine and my friend’s lunch and even warmed milk on the stove in the middle of a night for a friend who had hurt her foot and couldn’t walk. I even learnt to wash clothes, iron them, withdraw money from a bank, go grocery shopping, interact with people not knowing my language and so many other things I couldn’t have done staying in my own city at my own home.At the internship, my boss assured me that it was a safe city and I could travel around for events and work. I managed to do 18 events in the two months, a number the company was yearning to reach in the two years they had been operating for. Everybody appreciated my work at office.I learnt to not only take care of my own self but of my friends too. They had started teasing me by calling me mommy, the one who was always worried if everybody was eating well, was in their respective rooms before the deadline at night, was reaching office on time, etc. I also became the accounts in charge for the 5 of us, who owed whom how much and why, I kept a record of all of it.Being a strong and chirpy girl most of the time, at some other times I broke down too, on the day of my childhood friend’s wedding when I could not be her bridesmaid, when my grandmother suffered a minor heart attack and I couldn’t be there beside her bed and sometimes, just like that, not knowing why.But overall, I am glad that I went there stepping out of my cocoon. I learnt a lot of household chores, a lot from my internship, made a lot of new friends and most importantly, learnt a lot about my own self!

Below is my script, which I had delivered in my club level contest of Toastmaster International speech contest. For the knowledge of the readers, I would like to say that Toastmasters International (TI) is a US headquartered nonprofit educational organization that operates clubs worldwide for the purpose of helping members improve their communication, public speaking, and leadership skills. Writing stories and writing scripts for speeches are two different things. In speeches, the speaker has to take the challenge to involve her audience throughout the speech and she has to communicate everything within 7 mins of her talk. Audience may lose interest if the opening is not good and if the script timing goes beyond 7 mins, then audience may feel bored. So, this script provides some guidelines to a speaker.... Hope the readers will enjoy it:Title: The phoenixOpening:4th Jan1986, Odisha, a girl was born with lots of dreams in her eyes. Dreams to be the best daughter to her parents  …. Dreams to be the best Engineer the world has ever seen….dreams to bring a change in the nation …. Dreams to do the best of her life …. N  Dreams to be a wonderful wife……………………Everything was going fine as planned until 2014 when this girl caught a disease ………….. her dreams started dying, her faith in love started dying, her trust for her parents started losing and worst of all , she even thought of ending it……Eventually After 2 years of struggle  that sweet innocent girl ……died a suffocating death.Body:Good afternoon Honorable Contest Chair, fellow toastmasters and dear guests. In one of those chilly evening on November 2016, she was reborn as an independent woman with self-respect, one who takes her own decisions ……4 years back, life had put her at a turning point where one decision that she took made her disgrace for everyone……… worse even disgrace to her parents. What was that one wrong decision that changed her life………….? What was that disease that killed her happiness…??Her mistake was she decided to say no to domestic violence after marriageShe decided to not tolerate her drunkard husband’s beatings every night, she decided to not tolerate her father in law stopping her to talk to her family members, she decided not to ask her parents for more dowry, she decided not to tolerate her mother in law’s giving her high voltage electric shocks. She had lost her mental peace and freedom, which had huge negative impact on her professional career. How difficult to bear all those? How painful those moments were?? Losing individuality and living means a spiritless life with a moving physical body, that means you are living like a dead body!!!When she looked back to get the ANegative Situation Wisely Experiencing Reversal she could see that she had very little control over what happened. The seasons of her experience had to run their course – severe winter storms, cold and darkness, then the seeds hidden from within started beginning to sprout (very exciting!). The best she could do was ride the waves, which she did with varying degrees of success. She saved all her strength to swim with the tide and to flow with the grace that washed through her days, raising all her quills to defend against invaders. She took this on faith. All she used is a pair of eyes unblinkered by fear, apprehension and prejudice. Fighting with herself went on in each and every moment, hour and day, to come out from her demon created by herself since her birth. To come out from the attitude to care about ‘what will people say?’Transformation was not sweet and bright. It was dark, murky, painful and pushing. A practice in facing our own created demons.  A complete uprooting, before becoming. She turned her demons into art, her fears into fuel, her mistakes into teachers and her weaknesses into reasons to keep us fighting. She did not waste her pain, instead recycled her heart!!!Situation in life might had defeated her, burnt her, insulted her, injured her and abandoned us. But,  they will not, shall not and cannot destroy her, like a Phoenix she knows how to surrect. Lakshmi Agarwal, JK Rowling, Muniba Mazari and many more are the phoenixes who emerges from the ashes….Now, after 4 yrs, she can see herself as an independent woman who spreads her messages on how to fight with themselves among those women who try to commit suicide due to various reasons whether she is a rape survivor or has become physically disabled and lost her confidence to live her life. She says them “We do not need magic to transform our world. We carry all of the power we need inside ourselves already. The world is full of wonderful things you havenot seen yet. Don’t ever give the chance of seeing them. You are not a victim, you are a survivor. The man who attacked you will cover his face. You wont. While we women get busy in playing our predefined roles, we forget to love ourselves, we forget our worth and we don’t realize that there is so much more we can do for ourselves and for the people around us.”Conclusion:Ladies and Gentlemen,As said by Lao Tzu “New beginnings are disguised as painful endings.”What’s perceived as painful and undesirable, often paves the way for something better – and if not better, at least different. In difference, lies life’s momentum and progress. Traumatic occurrences always have a disguised positive side to them. Hidden opportunities make us more determined and fills us with life-preserving energy. Until we’re jolted out of our peaceful slumber, no epoch event can be expected to happen.Desire changes Nothing, Decision changes Something. But Determination changes Everything.Desire changes Nothing, Decision changes Something. But Determination changes Everything.Over to Emcee…

HOUSE HUSBAND----A MATTER OF PRIDE ….OR A NEW CHALLENGE

HOUSE HUSBAND----A MATTER OF PRIDE ….OR A NEW CHALLENGEAncient sayings and proverbs glorified the marriage and relationships to great extents. Like, a girl must stay in home and cook, look after the needs of family, while a guy’s work was to earn money and support the family financially. As days passed by, both of them started working and sharing all their works to lead a luxurious and comfortable lifestyle. They needed to save amount for their future too.And now, role reversal is at its peaks. Heavy works, night shifts, tight deadlines, both men and women are capable of everything today. A new trend in recent years is the concept of 'house husband'.. Imagine, a guy staying at home, cooking, cleaning, washing dishes and managing the entire home. How cool it is!! But it isn't as cool as you imagine. Reality is far different from the beautiful imagination one dreams of. A lot of drawbacks come along with this innovative new trend. Yes, even while seeking suggestions for this write up, a few people asked me the same question " Why can't this happen? Many years back, girls stayed at home, taking care of everything. Now why can't guys do the same? Let guys too enjoy the comfort of home for a few years." The point here is not just about the comfort of home or role reversal. It's about sharing responsibilities and staying together.Okay, let's take a stand between both, a house wife and a house husband. A house wife wakes up early, cooks for the family, helps her family members in getting ready and completes any petty works if any. Rest of the day, till her family members return home, she is free. She doesn't have any compulsory task to complete. In the evening, her routine works begin again. What does she do in the meanwhile? In specific, how does she spend the time from 10- 3? A lot of options are there. Gardening, reading, craft works, even watching television serial is considered a decent hobby nowadays. She could learn new stuffs, even new recipes to cook or an idea of getting a new friend even wouldn’t be that bad. Anyhow she would make the best use of her time. Now imagine a house husband. He does the same work in the mornings and evenings as a house wife does. But the mean time?? How could he make the best use of this time? Obviously, many activities are there. But remember the basic psychological fact, a guy cannot stay in the same place for hours together. Even in our homes we have examples. A girl child would stay at home playing with dolls for the whole day. But a boy can't stay at home even for two or three hours completely.( we all would have experienced this even by our own self.)See, we can't blame guys here. Basically, they are gifted with strong physical and mental strength than women. That is why, they are unable to put all their energy within their home. They are basically designed so. And coming to the point, a house husband goes around the city for the whole day, roaming here and there. What would happen eventually? His wife would be struggling in office and he would be casually going here and there. Would it look nice??Another major constraint is money. The earning man gives his salary to his wife and she allocates money for all expenses. That is the practice in most of the homes today. A man may earn in lakhs, but the proper planning and investment can only be done by a girl. So a housewife can easily allocate money for her expenses. But in the case of house husband, a man's ego and self respect would get hurt to great extents if he asks his wife for money.         It's not an issue. Not just guys, every human being, after a certain age, wants to be independent or wants the money to be in their hands. Asking money for getting a newspaper or even a cool drink would be awkward. Coming to personal thoughts, a guy can come home late night after work, he can go anywhere, no need of suspecting him (90% cases, women don't suspect or shout). But a guy staying at home while his wife doing night shift, is not that applicable. Seeds of suspicion and doubt would automatically come after a certain period of time. Last and the least bothersome issue is our society. Our society would blame everything. "A girl or guy, whomever it may be, they shouldn't stay at home." A statement given by so called 'social people'. And that can be completely ignored. Coming to the other perspectives, it will be completely new to try out such stuffs. And experimenting that will give an enriching experience too. Remember the days when women spoke of bringing a new change and started working. Like the same, this could turn out to be a beautiful bond. But a great risk in this relationship is, ' a guy must never opt to be a house husband just because he didn't clear his arrears or that he can't get a job. This is not a new try. This is just another way of escaping from one's duties and responsibilities’. And believe it, this would make his life terrible. Because deep in his mind, he would get fixed like he is capable of nothing but household chores. And if he ever feels difficulty in his work as a house husband, then his great imagination has higher chances of becoming a night mare.Mutual understanding, care and concern, trust, promises hold a greater place in this relationship. Suspicion, doubt, inferiority complex are common for both genders. It's all about how a person tackles it and how he responds to people. If guys of their age earn in lakhs and have a car or home of their own, then house husbands should be in a position to give them apt replies instead of making their own selves feel inferior. And he should let go off his ego before asking for money or anything. Always keep in mind, you have become a house husband out of your own wish, not anyone else’s.Remember, people would talk with you, behind you and about you, either in a good or bad way. You cannot paste their mouths, instead you can change your own perspective. And, a point should be always taken into consideration. Men are blessed with stronger abilities only to support women, be it a house husband or a working person. Being a house husband should not push him to heights of laziness and a wonderful zone of comfort.Life is all about challenges. A person with a proper vision and goal towards future, one who is willing to set new trends, someone who is adaptable to changes and more importantly a man who is willing to take up job again, if something goes wrong, can experiment with this bond. New stuffs generally take time. Once you have taken a decision, just go with it. but always remember, becoming a house husband should be a matter of choice and consent, not of escapism and laziness.....#smblogcontest

Book: ILA IS ONLINE – Preeti Vayada

 29 March 2018

Blurb:All mothers dream of their sons getting married, having children in a couple of years, and living happily ever after. But my dream was shattered into pieces, not to mention that it was because of a reason I cannot talk about in public.Well, after much thought and careful consideration, I have come to the realisation that it is not all over. Varun will get married. This time I will double check. Sameer told me that staying ‘Active’ on Facebook can help. The only problem is that I don’t know how to use Facebook. But how difficult can it be? If I can operate the washing machine and the smart TV, Facebook cannot be much harder. After all, Varun’s future at stake – and my name in society.Intrigue:“Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.” – This is the crux of this book. This is the story of “Ilaben Patel” conservative mother who wish to get his son varun married to Aakruthi which calls off due to strange circumstances ends her into the social media vicious circle. What’s next,Could she subsist the concomitant of the social media infirmity ?What decision Ila took in addressing those aftermath?Did Varun get married ?My Review:Blurb hints the essence of social media which is supported by Splendid book cover (Facebook blue background) with a marriage procession horse and a chat text “Ila is online”, this is not the story of protagonist Ila rather its a anecdote of every mother Whose children are already trapped amidst the evils of social media. I cant stop appreciating the author who picked up this idea. Every sentence explains the agony of mother of techno-freak kids. This book is first person(Ila) narration with a dash of comical aspect. Author never missed the theme of chucklesome in the entire plot. Characters are very well illustrated.Author conveyed different angle of motherhood of extant society. Its a different approach in conveying message to the readers. Undoubtedly this is a reference manual for the present day fraternity mothers.“I saw my mother in Ilaben Patel” – I hope that consolidatesI rate “ILA IS ONLINE – Preeti Vayada” a 4.5/5 which carries powerful message, humour, motherhood emotions, family bonding and desi style. Its worth reading as this is of different genre and you will never feel bored. Believe me you will never regret reading this treatise.RegardsKiran K Adharapuram

 Suraj Kumar
 3 April 2018

World Autism Acceptance Day is an internationally recognized day on 2 April every year, encouraging the Member States of the United Nations to take measures to raise acceptance about people with autism throughout the world. It was designated by the United Nations General Assembly resolution "62/139. World Autism Acceptance Day", passed in council on 1 November 2007, and adopted on 18 December 2007. It was proposed by the United Nations representative from Qatar, Her Highness SheikhaMozah bint Nasser Al-Missned, Consort of His Highness Shiekh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the Emir of the State of Qatar, and supported by all member states. This resolution was passed and adopted without a vote in the UN General Assembly, mainly as a supplement to previous UN initiatives to improve humanrights. Since its inception autism awareness and research around the world has increased as a resultWorld Autism Day is also one of only four official health-specific UN Days. The day itself brings individual autism organizations together all around the world to aid in things like research, diagnoses, treatment, and overall acceptance for those with this neurological variance. The original resolution had four main components:·the establishment of the second day of April as World Autism Awareness Day, beginning in 2008·invitation to the Member States and other relevant organizations to the UN or the international societal system, including non-governmental organizations and the private sector, to create initiatives to raise public awareness of autismThe ·encourages Member States to raise awareness of autism on all levels in society·asks the UN Secretary-General to deliver this message to member states and all other UN organizations.2 April 2008The first Autism Acceptance Day was highly mandated and hosted by the UN branches around the world. The highlighted events were held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The events hosted by the UN includes a panel discussion sponsored by Qatar and the UN representative responsible for the resolution, along with the World Health Organization. In addition, there was a briefing held for NGO's on topics relating to autism acceptance. Both of these events focused on personal efforts for acceptance raising and eliminating negative stigma associated with autism. In addition, there were highlights on the struggles of Autistics to be accepted and the importance of better understanding this neurological variance.World Autism Awareness Day in EuropeIn Europe the international association Autism-Europe runs a campaign every year, focusing not only on awareness but also on fostering a greater understanding of autism. The march aims to unify the autism awareness community and provide a time of healing and peace around the globe. Attendees may choose which organization they want to march for with proceeds of LED bracelet sales going to the organization of their choosing.OntarioAutism Ontario celebrates World Autism Awareness Day by "Raising a Flag" for autism. He highlighted things like The Affordable Care Act, which prohibits health insurance companies from denying coverage based on a pre-existing condition such as autism. He also pointed out the recent Autism CARES Act of 2014, which provides higher level training for those who are serving citizens on the autism spectrum.

Tattoo Care
 Pinal Chauhan
 6 April 2018

Tattoo Care – very essential to keep it’s charmTattoo seems to be a wonderful word which brings different feeling. Atattoo on the body looks just awesome. Be it on a girl or a boy...it is smallor big. The craze of tattoo is increasing immensely among the youngsters. It is known as one the bold ways to express anything. Some just make itas a passion. The thought of having a tattoo itself is very tickling. But, it isvery important to first have proper knowledge about the making of it andthen taking care of it.Tattoos are permanent designs on the skin, by using a needle withpermanent pigmentation. It usually takes 4 to 5 hours to make a tattoo, but it also depends on the size of it. It is also very important to select aproper trustworthy and a professional artist who can do his jobefficiently. Once we select him, it turns out to be our responsibility to takecare of the tattoo once made, because, even the best of a tattoo can bespoilt if proper care is not taken.Once the tattoo is done, it is very necessary to take proper care of it. Assoon as the person is done with the making of tattoo, they cover the freshtattoo with a bandage. This is done to prevent the bacteria andinfection. This bandage should be left as it is on the tattoo for at least 2 to3 hours. Once the bandage is removed, the first thing is to wash the tattoowith lukewarm water and liquid antibacterial soap to wash the ointmentand spread blood from the tattoo area. One should not use a wash clothor any kind of rough coarse material. One can also clean it with yourhands, but sterilised towels are the best. A regular application of theointment is necessary for at least 2 to 3 days.If these steps are followed properly, then, a normal bathing and taking ashower would not be a problem. But, one should be careful of not soakingtheir tattooed part in hot water for a longer time as it can turn out to beharmful. One should also avoid swimming for minimum 2 weeks as thewater contains chlorine. There are certain kinds of symptoms like scabbing or peeling of the skinis usually witnessed while the wounded skin is healing. If excessivescabbing is found, that is a sign of the job not done properly with perfectionor it can be that the person’s skin type is not familiar to the chemicals. Incase of normal itching on that place, it is advisable not to scratch but justslap that place or apply lotion on it. There would be a sign of relief to it.One has also to be careful by Sun and Ultra violet rays. As our normalskin needs to be protected from the direct sun, it is also important to protectthe tattoo. Thus, it is advisable to apply some good sun block on the skinespecially the tattooed part to prevent it from direct burns. One can useBacitracin or just normal coconut oil on the tattoo while it is healing. But,at the same time one should be careful, that they do not use Neosporinas they are harmful for the tattoos.Once the initial period of all different restrictions for the tattoo is over, theperson is free to display their beautiful tattoo to the world. But, at thesame time proper care is to be taken to protect the tattoos from the directsun or hot water. If this is not done, the tattoos may fade and they look veryshabby. Tattoos are no doubt a beautiful body art, but only if proper careis taken for to have it the same way in a long run.

Aislin Fall, a poet and photographer
 StoryMirror Feed
 18 April 2018

StoryMirror interviewed Aislin Fall, a 25 years old maker of things. Writer. Photographer. Poet. Compulsive traveller. Joy Seeker. Knowledge sponge. PNW born and bred. Here is what she has to say.Q. Tell us about you and your background.I guess I was born and then a lot of things happened and I ended up where I am now.I'm from British Columbia, Canada. I was 16 when I started taking photographs using my dad's camera. I was really obsessed with fashion photography for a long time and was always making my friends crawl into bushes and peer from behind blooming branches and once, I made my best friend carry a small wooden giraffe around her neighbourhood. Eventually, I started photographing models in the suburbs and beautiful landscapes wearing lots of different clothes. Eventually, I stopped photographing models anywhere. These past few years, I've become more drawn to taking pictures that document life as I see it, which usually fits in the category of travel and portrait photography with a tinge of adventure and lifestyle. I still shoot fashion sometimes but it's not my main focus.Photoshop came before photography for me and by the time I picked up my first camera, I was already dabbling in graphic design and photomanipulation. I fell in love with retouching as I transitioned into fashion photography and I worked as a retoucher for a few years. I don't retouch professionally any longer. I like being outside more than I like being on a computer these days.Travel has been the dominant force in my life for the past four years, although I did travel a lot with my family while growing up. I am usually in a state of going somewhere. I haven't had a "home" for more than a few months in a long time.Q. What is your life's greatest passion? What inspires you? I think life itself is my greatest passion—life and all the things it encompasses. The swell and swoon and pull and press of existence. The miracle of existing at all. The hope is to be as fully present and here in this moment. It's strange how something so simple can be so hard sometimes! How easy to get lost in your head—to stop listening to footfall of passing strangers, trills of birds, pulse of water. So my greatest passion is life and from there, everything else flows. I have been a maker ever since I was little—drawing, writing, forming stories—and the process of creating is a huge passion of mine. Nowadays, it takes the shape of photography and poetry. I grew up travelling the west coast of North America with my family and in my 20s, I've spent a lot of time on the road in Canada, USA, Europe, Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Travelling is definitely one of the other great loves of my life. But they are all so wound together. Photography, writing, travelling—they're all giant pieces of this life of mine. They're how I think and feel and experience. Life gives me inspiration and then I take that and make these things with it.Life inspires me, the world inspires me, relationships inspire me, art inspires me, emotions inspire me, light inspires me. Since I'm mostly photographing my life as I experience it, I just look for moments.Q. Take us through your work. I shoot people and places. I catch real moments and pull them through my perspective until they feel like me. I get my fingerprints on everything. I'm not one of those photographers who doesn't like to modify things (though if you are, that's fine). I see things as malleable. I love Photoshop. My work is me; my work is my life. It's the fleeting instant that I got my fingers around. It's a record of where I've been and what I've felt. The roads I've walked down, the people I've loved, the sunrises I've seen, the glimmers of light that took my breath away. It's travel or landscape or documentary or lifestyle or portrait or whatever.WhistlerUSATessTasmaniaTasmaniaSydneyScotlandPortoMaiteIrelandIrelandIrelandhowthhollandCanadaBeeAusAthensAthensQ. Can you share with us a 'behind-the-scene' memory of yours that has stood out the most? Back in October, at the beginning of this last backpacking trip in Europe, I went to the Acropolis in Athens for sunrise. I watched the twinkle of dawn wash over the ancient streets of the city and observed the quiet blue of night transform into brilliant, shining light. It was one of those times when you look around at your life and feel all the decisions that brought there to that specific, remarkable, precious point. A blink of overwhelming gratitude.During the day, Acropolis is a swarming beehive of human beings. There are so many people. But when the gates first open in the morning—right before the sun rises, it's nearly empty. There were only two or three other people there when I watched the dawn awaken the city. It was so private and personal, witnessing the sun crest over the mountains, pull the shadows long and far over the ruins.Q. Is there an achievement or contribution that you are most proud of?I have been to 25 countries in 25 years, and while that's not a "career" oriented "achievement," it's a personal achievement. I'm immensely proud of this life that I've carved for myself. I have seen so much and it's truly shaped me.Q. What is your life's philosophy?Love and interconnectivity. Be kind and compassionate towards everything—other humans, animals, the planet, yourself. We are all so tied together. Our actions matter.Q. If you could give a message to all the 20 year olds of the world, what would it be?Be patient. Remember that you are not your emotions. Gratitude is the key. Emotions are passing clouds in the sky—they are things that you experience but they are not your identity so don't be consumed by them or think that they're your truth. Patience because all things take time and it's really hard to really know who you are or what you want at 20. It's important to give yourself room to grow and discover and make mistakes. I view the 20s as being a massive opportunity for learning. Training your mind to practice gratitude has the potential to change everything.Q. How do you want to see yourself 5 years from now?Happy and fulfilled, though that's the aim for every single day and not the destination. I'd like to be sustaining an income from my photography and writing, and still engaged in creative projects that excite me. I hope to have more of a "home" in five years but still travelling a lot with at least another ten new countries checked off my list!Check out her website, blog and instagram.

Book Review: The Wild Cat By Taanya Sarma

Book Title: The Wild CatAuthor: Taanya SarmaFormat: Paper BackTotal Number of Pages: 328Language: EnglishPublisher: Invincible PublishersPublishing Date: 21 December 2017ISBN-10: 9387328139ISBN-13: 978-9387328136Based on true events, this erotic thriller novel tells the tale of a young, naive woman named Tanya who enters the online dating and chat world. Her first foray into this digital realm initially proves to be bland and disappointing; however, sex, suspense, power struggles and attempted murder soon unfold. These unwelcome adventures interfere with her business and her sanity as she aspires to live up to her deceased parent’s standards.A conman named Sam ensnares Aaron, a handsome investment banker, into his ploy and uses him as a pawn to lure women into doing things they normally wouldn’t do. Sam then exposes their personal information as well as their images, sometimes in the act of cyber sex, and posts them on a very successful porn website that he owns. Tanya’s encounter with these two men evolves into a long, winding road, with each turn bringing irreparable changes in her life.Enraged by the deceit and the unconscionable behavior of these men, Tanya turns whistleblower and vows to assist the FBI in shutting down the dating app and porn site – and she won’t stop until the perverted perpetrators are behind bars. She never relents, but ultimately laments, “I never thought that I would have to give up my life to remain alive.”ReviewsA very interesting book, especially for young girls to understand the danger that exists in this society with online predators ~ Alma Guzman, Executive Producer Hollywood.Sex, suspense, power, struggle, murder attempt and well developed characters. This book has all the masala to be the next blockbuster Bollywood flick. A must read for sure. ~ RJ Khurki, Zabardast Hit 95 FM Truth is indeed stranger than fiction. This gripping story based on true events will keep you hooked till the very last page. ~ Antil, ScoopwhoopMY TAKEStarting from the book cover the first impression is the best impression the foremost thing which I liked in the book is the beautiful cover and its little unusual title “The Wild Cat” it indeed developed the curiosity within me to know what author meant by it.   The lower half of a girl’s face and below it is the night view of a city with buildings in the middle of the cover title with sub title. The Wild Cat A deviant tale of a young woman, a banker and a conman who happen to meet on dating website. The Cover is beautiful and attractive. Title is also perfect for the plot. The story revolves around the line of protagonist Tanya aka Iron Angel, Dorothy, Adam, Mr. U W, Aaron aka Phantom or Alpha, Mrs. Martha, Sarah, Monica , Sam Baker aka call as Nick Baker or Cobra, Newguyintown,Notorious, Aunt Iris, Rookie, Venom, Rebel Queen, Rex, Mr. & Mrs. Baker, Stephanie Owens, Schmidt, Jeff Simpson, Dali, Frida. This is the story of female protagonist Tanya an art gallery owner inherited from her father. She lost her mother in her early age and her father had brought her up but later her father passed away in an accident. She was a alone and only have the support of her best friend Dorothy.  Dorothy is dating online through an app which matches with a person of similar interest and lets them talk in a group or one -one.Tanya also downloads the app iVoice once she learns that she has been using it to date this person who is the owner of a sexy voice according to her. iVoice is a dating app but the twist is that it’s not like any other dating app. It’s a dating app based on voices of different people. One can only connect with another person she is interested in by hearing his voice. No real names, no identities. Just voice. The application has a option to lock in the phone number and also has a voice changer option if any user feels not to reveal their own voice. Tanya, aka Iron Angel on iVoice comes across another user called Adam who invites her to a private chat. Adam apparently is married and is a father to three kids. He shows signs of perversion and voyeurism and have cybered (cyber sex) quite a few times but his wife doesn’t mind even when she knows about his addiction. I don’t know why. Even his therapist knows about it but takes no step to stop him from his adventures. Tanya and Adam end up talking about the colours of underwear they wear, whether they wash hands after peeing, whether they sleep in PJs or sleep naked. I mean, girl you are talking to a virtual stranger and you haven’t even seen his face and you are already talking about penises, panties and thongs!! Like, seriously. I was exasperated at her common sense. He could have turned out to be an old pimp who doesn’t think twice before killing innocent girls. Anyways, coming to the second user Phantom; he is the lead male protagonist in this book. Aaron aka Phantom turns out to be an investment banker and is pretty civil when they first engage in conversation. He isn’t a creep like the two other users she had interacted previously. They almost talk everyday. As days pass, Tanya becomes more addicted to this app and starts to feel “soft” for Aaron. It’s trap. There’s always some people lurking in the background to pounce on when they are presented with opportunities. There’s one such person in this iVoice app too. He gains a large sum of money by selling of phone numbers and private images of the girls who uses this app. When Tanya comes to know about this and learns that Aaron is also linked with this whole ploy, she plots a revenge against them. The rest of the story follows Tanya in her revenge and whether she finds success in her plan. This book ends with a cliffhanger mode. The rest of the story will be in next trilogy set of the book.Language is simple crisp and lucid and has the ability to bring live the events narrated in the book. The characters are well developed and one can easily relate to their actions, reactions, mental agony, outbursts, etc. The only character that left me a bit confused was that of Tanya. The best part is that even the supporting characters are well- developed and merge smoothly into the story. You can easily relate to most of their actions, reactions and inner turmoil. However I would have loved to get to know what happen after BANG. BANG. who had shoot for that i have to wait for next book. While the first half is erotic thriller with cyber crime, the second half which is revenge.  Narration is done well. The author’s strongest point is plot with unique theme and warn the women of online world. One of the most important things that I noticed is how with few words, the author could not only just portrayed  the hazards of online world, the pain, joy and sorrows of the characters but she even manages to bring that out from the readers. Most victims of these crimes were teenage girls and women. There was a nefarious attempt to trap young girls to indulge in wrongdoing. The increase in number of mobile phones had also led to more number of cyber crimes. Crimes were also reported by misusing social networking websites on the internet. The writer’s words has the capacity to hold the reader till the last page. The book has been written well in accordance to real-life examples with realistic point of view. This is the debut novel of author but we don’t seriously feel as if we are reading a book written by a debut author. Overall a fantastic fantasy packed with action and tinged with suspicion and suspense. I personally would like recommend this book to every women out there and to all the book worms it’s a must read.Overall Ratings 4/5 StarsAbout the AuthorTaanya Sarma is an author, poet and an entrepreneur. Book Title: NAVARASAAuthor:Vinaya PatilFormat: Paper BackTotal Number of Pages: 100Language: EnglishPublisher: HALF BAKED BEANPublishing Date: 4 June 2018ASIN: B07DHB2256Know your Rasa while you enjoy reading a story about it. From the butterflies you feel in your stomach when you fall in love to the spine chilling horror, this book has it all. Denials, acceptance, adventure, anger, humor, you will experience the different flavors when you read the nine (nava) rasa stories. A love story on kindle, a girl who hates to fly, a boy full of wonder, an adventurous and brave brother, an iron cored girl with goals, a loving Grand Pa and a story around his tea estate, a haughty landlord, a taxi ride and a woman’s struggle make up for a wide variety of reading.MY TAKEStarting from the cover of the book is simple and yet beautiful with nine different rasa emoji in red color background. The title of the book “Navarasa” Nava – nine and Rasa – emotions means nine emotions. The book is a collection of short stories based on nine navarasa. The nine emotions included in Navarasa are:-Shringara (love, devotion, beauty)Hasya (Joy, humor, sarcasm)Adbutha (wonder, mystery, curiosity),Veera (courage, confidence, pride),Shanta (peace, relaxation, calmness)Karuna (sadness, compassion, pity),Raudra (anger, irritation, violence),Bhayanaka (Horror, anxiety, worry),Bhibathsa (disgust, depression, self-pity)These are the emotions that humans show according to the situations. My love for you, Take Off, In the eyes of wonder, A Knock at the door, the damned bridge, Nancy’s Haven, A wash away story, girl in the back seat, when I wake up are some short stories author had penned down based on these emotions. Every page is loaded with emotions and twists.Grandpa Henry from Nancy’s Heaven was my favorite character in the book. Take Off! It’s one of the funniest stories in the book. The protagonist Manasi dislikes kids and hate flying. Manasi colleague Arunima inivited her to celebrate New Year Eve Party at Chennai. Aravind (Arunima’s brother) is also coming from US to attend the party so Manasi decides to use the opportunity to meet him. She had a crush on him. Arunima requests Manasi to take her darling daughter Shaina with her in the plane. Shaina was very naughty. The plane and airport journey in the book was amusing.Language is simple and lucid to read and connect with the story and being engaged throughout the story. The style of narration and the pace are perfect. The author has portrayed each and every character with utmost significance of their own and every one of them has done justice to their respective roles throughout the story.Looking forward to read more works by the author.I’ll recommend this book to all readers.Overall Ratings 5/5 StarsGrab the book here Amazon.in | Amazon.com |About the AuthorVinaya Patil is a passionate IT professional who chose to write when she decided to take a break from her well established IT career. How Often Do We Say - Thank You!
 Ritu Gulabani

How often do we say thank you and really mean it?To God, to people who serve us or to mother nature...How often do we thank God for the eyes we open in the morning? For there are many who couldn't see the brightness of the sun today. How often do we thank God for the air we breathe? For there are many, who are putting a lot of efforts to breathe and there are many again, who just took their last breath. How often do we thank God for the people around us? For there are many who are alone and fighting depression. How often do we thank God for the home we live in? For there are many who have no roof. How often do we thank God for our job? For there are many educated unemployed. How often do we thank our maids, our help and other service providers? For there are many who are in dire need of help but have to manage all by themselves. We are busy complaining and comparing and forgoing happiness ourselves.Today it has been scientifically proven that expressing gratitude makes you a happier person. With this follows my third story "Faith" which was published in Dreamz Anthology last year. Although a fiction, it has been inspired by real life events.FaithAfter collecting their bags, Rishabh and Daman went to hire a taxi while Tania and Disha waited near the exit with luggage by their side. When the boys were approaching their girls, Rishabh could effortlessly notice the contrasting personalities of the two females standing a few steps away.Rishabh and Tania had been together since their first year while Disha and Daman, already in a relationship, had met the duo during their internship. Their night duties and a zest for clubs and night life had brought them together.Tania was soft, plump and fair skinned with hazel eyes, almost like the furry overcoat in her hands. With her chubby cheeks, dimply smile and a compassionate heart she had been the spirit of the hospital. Disha, on the other hand had a vivid sex appeal. She too, wore jegging with nude peep toes; her white translucent shirt with a tiny golden heart shaped pendant hanging just above the cleavage made her look sensual.Within an hour they were in their pre-booked private beach resort in Phuket. Tania had booked it after an intensive search for a quite beach resort within their budget for their weeklong holiday. The resort was truly a paradise for the couples. With their cottage doors and windows opening to the sea on one side and pool on the other, the couples were already thrilled.“The lunch is ready so please freshen up and join at the restaurant,” said the manager handing over the keys to their porter.“I really want to take out my clothes and swim,” said Disha, gaping at the Europeans enjoying in the pool bar.“Me too Honey! But let’s have our lunch first,” said Daman putting his arms around her waist while Disha’s eyes were on Rishabh who was looking around with Tania just a few steps ahead. The moment they stepped into the room, Tania kissed Rishabh, who was still brooding over Disha’s changing behavior. Rishabh also kissed her in reciprocation and then rushed to washroom.Tania took out her diary and started scribbling, with a gentle smile on her face.“What are you doing now? I guess we are on a vacation, right!” asked Rishabh, the moment he came out.“Ofcourse! We certainly are! You know, how much I have yearned for these holidays,” said Tania with a beam and got up with her diary folded in her right hand to kiss her beau.“This is my gratitude journal and before I forget, I want to write all those things, I am grateful for. I am just trying to remember the magic of the day till now”.“Magic!” Rishabh wondered.“Daddy’s permission for a trip with friends, riding an airplane which is a wonder in itself, a power nap refreshing me for the day, safe landing, a sunny day after cold foggy days of Delhi, a pre-nuptial honeymoon with the most handsome doc, a beautiful silent beach resort within our budget, an awesome cottage by the sea, all four of us together….in Phuket. I have already counted ten blessings, which are no less than magic for me,” said Tania with a smile and coiled to the writing desk behind to put down her diary.“Hmm! U know your attitude is what pulls me like a magnet to you. But everyone today, wants to have fun and so work on their goals to go for vacations,” said Rishabh.“Wrong! Not every girl is getting a permission from her parents, planes can crash any time, many can’t even see or experience the sun, there are many who can’t sleep properly where as I managed a great sleep in the plane, many love stories end up before they are born, many can’t afford even a budget resort forget the sea view or pool view,” said Tania asserting herself. “I am more grateful when I talk about it and you are also one of the manifestations for me.”Rishabh came from a small town of Uttarakhand and was living in a hostel. His extremely fair complexion behind the black beard and an athlete built up with ever shining inquisitive eyes had always made him stand out in the college group.Tania, on the other hand, had been a day-scholar. Her mom was very fond of Rishabh ever since Rishabh had saved Tania from an accident. Rishabh’s family was also under the magical spell of Tania although they met on rare occasions.Suddenly the phone bell rang.“Are you both ready?” asked Daman.“Oh yes! We will be out in a few more minutes,” replied Rishabh and kept the phone. While Tania changed, Rishabh found himself sandwiching between a nymph and a desirable seductress.Soon four of them were in the restaurant. They occupied a table near the portico with floral climbers till the square open roof tops. It was a breath taking view. The pool had umpteen Europeans swimming in it to tan their bodies. They were all basking under the sun and happy escaping the severe winters of their respective countries.  At the brim of the pool were the sculptures of mermaids, painted in pink, blue and golden, pouring water into the pool from the pitchers in their hands. Just behind the pool, they could only see the huge serene and clear blue and green sea. The beach in between was not visible from the partly open restaurant. Tania and Daman were enjoying every bit of the picturesque scenery while Disha creeped her chair just opposite to Rishabh.Rishabh, now felt trapped almost like a monkey with its fist in the trap which can’t come out unless he releases the bananas or the nuts inside. Disha’s oomph factor, quite visible in her red strappy dress with blood red lipstick and penetrating eyes were, no doubt pulling him.Suddenly, Daman clenched his hand onto the table with his eyes still stuck to the vast sea and said, “Guys I am going to buy some vodka and wine and enjoy the evening here inside the pool. What say? No sightseeing, no clubbing. Let’s celebrate here for tonight.” All the three immediately agreed with a “wow” and so after the lunch, Daman went out for some liquor shopping while Tania ran and jumped into the hammock on the beach.“I don’t want to tan my body. I am going to my room guys!” said Disha while Rishabh’s eyes silently chased Disha although he chose to relax on the wooden recliners at close quarters with Tania.Tania was basking under the sun and enjoying the gentle touch of sea breeze. She was thankful for her dream of the sea on one side and Rishabh on the other. Soon, she was asleep. Rishabh was waiting for this; he suddenly got up and sneaked to Disha’s room.Disha was relaxing right there on the bay window. Her smooth, saucy legs turned Rishabh on. He didn’t want to waste the time. He jumped right from the window.“I was waiting for you,” she said in a husky voice into her ears while Rishabh hushed her and kissed. The moment he was to open the zip of her dress, the door bell rang. Rishabh stealthily jumped out of the window. Can’t believe it! You were waiting for me….curtains closed, much wavy locks, sensuous foot rub? What a beautiful kick! Incredible Phuket!” shouted Daman throwing his bag.“Oh you and your gratitude journal! Looks like we’re on your gratitude trip!” said Rishabh irritatingly, the moment he entered the room.“Look who is talking! I looked out for you on the beach and when I didn’t find you, I came back,” said Tania with a shock in her eyes. “By the way, I was thanking God for our beautiful future!”“Which has not even set in!” Rishabh said spitefully.“Why?” Tania gets surprised. “We are already in our honeymoon. What else do you need to start? Come here and sit,” she flipped her pages without enquiring further.“See just six months back, I had thanked God for my dream trip to Thailand and to a private beach resort in Phuket. Isn’t it a dream come true?” she showed her diary to Rishabh with date.Rishabh read her journal and couldn’t believe his eyes. Tania was right and then she showed her a few of her dreams manifested in the past one year, her mother’s health, her brother’s dream job and her results.“Believe me! God has abundance for all of us. You just need to have faith,” said Tania with a smile.Rishabh gazed at her in awe. He was certainly learning more about Tania, huddled over her dairy, in her denim shorts, red puff sleeved top and long straight tresses, she was definitely a fusion. Her thoughts on couple’s compatibility before marriage appeared strange in front of her deep faith like a good old granny.“Her aura always touches my soul. How can I ignore such a beautiful personality, inside out?” said Rishabh to himself. In the evening four of them sat together in the pool bar and enjoyed the cocktails, mock tails, pizza and swimming too. Rishabh tried to ignore the seductress in the string bikini, revealing her petite body.“Daman my back is burning. Can you please check?” said Disha with her eyes again on Rishabh.“There’s nothing honey. Let me rub some ice,” replied Daman and picked an ice cube to rub at her smooth dripping bony back. “You are tantalizing me!” he said in a low voice.“Let me enjoy the weather,” said Tania and swam towards the other end of the pool which meandered till the corner of the vast resort. Rishabh followed Tania. After the Christmas and New Year bash filled with music, dance, drum, wine, beer, fun, food and frolic they were all ready to leave Phuket. Rishabh still ….a pendulum.Their return tickets were booked from Bangkok. The taxi was booked and they happily bid Phuket a goodbye. As they drove their way, the darkness slowly covered the blue and orange sky and the stars slowly took over their positions, the four travelers were enjoying the music.Onthe Phuket- Bangkok Highway near Suratthani, the driver requested them to put some holy chants in his broken english.“Why?” asked Tania.“Madaame, this is accident zone and pirits….you know gosts…. stop caar causing accidents. I am Buddhist, I want to put …chanting,” replied the cab driver.“Are you mad!” giggled Rishabh“Don’t make fun!” said Tania pinching his arm.“Let the music run. We are doctors and don’t believe in ghosts,” said Rishabh reproachfully.“I don’t understand why do you like this metal?” saidTania in a teasing tone. “Let him put chanting for some time.”The moment Rishabh turned to reply; the taxi took a blind turn in order to save a creature crossing over and toppled upside down.Unable to open the doors and windows, they all shouted but in vain. The breathlessness suddenly increased. The three doctors tried their best while Tania prayed for help and imagined that help had arrived, thanking God for the same, repeatedly deep inside her heart.Driver and Disha had already fainted. Daman and Rishabh had also started losing hope when two men on a bike crossed the overturned car. They stopped and drooped to peep inside.Tania gesticulated forrescue.None of them could believe that they had survived a fatal accident. They thanked the good Samaritans who left almost like a bubble. While Tania and Rishabh brought Disha and driver back to their senses, Daman checked the car. The magic was still in the air or the angelic touch, the car turned on.Daman drove the car now with driver by his side; Rishabh took his window seat with Tania by her side. But this time, holding each other’s hand firmly with faith multiplied. The near death experience had turned everyone grateful for their magical retrieval.“Thank You Tania!” Rishabh mumbled in the ears of his lady of faith and felt fleshed out with love and faith.
