 16 March 2018

Harvey Leigh Cantwel aka HRVY  is the guy of every teenage girl’s dream. With sky blue eyes and a ruffled blonde hairdo, the 19 year old lad is a fountain of talent. Seated at the Bottomline Media office, in a pair of torn jeans and a dark blue kurta, with his management team all around, when we meet HRVY, he’s like your boy next door, casual and down to earth. His first ever live performance at Hard Rock Cafe in Mumbai was sold out with many claiming his performance was truly astounding. He had the girls literally falling for him. His alluring face, million dollar smile and attractive looks, all go to make him a real charmer. HRVY is today one of the most searched singers with his video Personal clocking about 50 million views to date. His songs Phobia, Holiday and the latest single Personal are hot favourites with teens, with their lyrics, most stemming from HRVY’s personal life experiences. HRVY is a social media sensation on platforms such as Instagram and Twitter Before his fame on social media, HRVY was a presenter on BBC’s Friday Download. After that he took to social media and released his first EP, Holiday on 25th July, 2017. While his name is on every teens lips, we can’t but wonder, why the Londoner from Kent, chose HRVY and not his real name. We choose to find out this and lot more when The Teenager Today’s music columnist Verus Ferreira got exclusive access to the dashing youngster. Here are excerpts from that conversation:So everyone wants to know the reason for the change in name. Can you tell us where the ‘a’ and ‘e’ disappeared? My team thought we might take out the vowels ‘a’ and ‘e’, and see how it sounds and make my name sound a bit different. It just stuck What music did you listen to while you were growing up?I listened to U2, songs that my dad used to play in the car. I also like Justin Timberlake, he’s great, then there’s a singer Craig David from the UK and a lot of people who were on the charts while I was growing up. So when did the real love for music light up in you?Music got my fancy at a young age when I was like five or six when I first got to understand what music really was and really enjoyed listening to it. By the time I was 13, I decided that music was what I wanted to do. I had posted a cover of a song on Facebook called ‘Simply Amazing’ by American singer Trey Songz. I shared it around on Facebook and it got a lot of traction for me and it just reached a new high. Then my manager thought I should make a video of it with me singing in it and yeah that’s how it really clicked. So it was a Facebook video which appeared on YouTube. Do songs like Phobia, Holiday, or Personal, give out a message to all your fans? Well not really, I mean, we just write about how we feel which is a concept on how we all work. I like Holiday which is a bit of fun, while Phobia was like more of heart break song, and I know people would like that kind of stuff, it’s just got that romantic side to it. So do these songs stem from your real life experiences? Some of it kind of influenced it a bit, while some of it isn’t, and some is just made up. Well going back in time I liked this girl and so it comes from there. Well the songs are a little bit of my own experiences, and so like I said, like Personal has a line about my ex girlfriend, with a line... you used to flirt with your friends. And as I said I guess a lot is also made up. Every artist goes to a lot of obstacles to reach the top, you have succeeded quite easily. How did you do it?I feel like my career is only just started, and I am sure there will be some obstacles in the way in the future. I think for now it’s been pretty okay, I’ve been on the top, so I’m fine. Your EP ‘Talk with Ya’ has both the songs Phobia and Personal. Phobia is slow, while Holiday is a bit up tempo. How do the fans react to such songs? The fans really like Phobia because it’s much slower, while Personal is danceable, which is really good, so they get a chance to choose what they really like, they have both, songs that they can chill out to at a party and the other to just listen to. Besides singing do play any musical instruments?I really want to learn the piano; I think it’s a very beautiful instrument So in the future what songs would you like to make, slow or maybe a few dance numbers?I would like to release music that has everything, that has both slow and fast numbers.Coming to your first visit to Mumbai, when you knew you were coming to India, what is the first thought that came to your mind?I am really happy to be in India, even if it’s just 5 days. It’s amazing to see such a diverse culture out here. I love the people, they’re so friendly. Everyone who I met, asked me about how I liked the country. They were really very nice and kind to me. So have you heard or watched any Bollywood movies?I have heard a lot of Bollywood and there’s this actor that we have been talking about with my team, I think his name is Shah Rukh Khan and yes I want to watch his movies before I go or take some DVDs home with me. You also have a tour with The Vamps coming up soon, are you also planning a collaboration with them also?Yes I have a tour with them in March and about collaboration well who knows, we are all friends and it may happen. So for now, it’s just the tour with them and just have some fun and yes we want to come to India again. I love the country and will be here again soon. The Vamps are supposed to be on tour in India in June this year and I’m coming back with them. Do you plan on shooting any music videos in India, considering that there have been many artists like Coldplay who have also shot videos here? Now that I have been here I definitely want to shoot a video, and yes the next time we come to India, or maybe when we come in June and also at the end of the year, we may just decide on it. We would probably take in a bit of the Indian culture in it and yes wear something like this (points to his blue kurta). So what are your dreams and aspirations? To take over the world in a good way, musically have my music everywhere. What are your future plans?Just keep releasing songs and to release more music, travel around the world....... just to have fun.... really. What memories would you take from India?I take memories of the people, how they relate to me, the things I’ve seen on the streets, everything around me, the food. I want to try some street food, we haven’t really done that yet, we have kind of hotel food at the moment, so I want to try the dosa. So finally we come to a question many girls would want to know. Do you have a girlfriend? No (laughs). I don’t, I am singleAny message for your fans? I love you guys, thank you for being so supportive, Shukriya. Text and Photos by Verus Ferreira

Brand and Marketing Strategies: Taking Your Business To The Next Level
 5 October 2019

If your company hopes to grow its business in 2019 and beyond, you need more than just a good idea. It's great if you have a product or service that everybody wants. But it's tough to sell if people don't know about it. That's where marketing comes in.Marketing is something that’s continually changing. Once upon a time, a company's branded marketing approach included an ad in a newspaper or magazine and maybe a television or radio commercial - the classic "offline" method.Today’s marketing strategies have continued to explore new opportunities.Marketing, like everything else, has become more dynamic and plugged in these days. Your strategy is no longer about maximizing one or two channels. Instead, you must leverage a host of various sources, many of which are online or have a digital component, to reach your target market. Creating entry barrier lead magnets to automation in your audience segments inside your customer journey from buying to buyer.Ultimately, marketing is about being where your ideal client is and connecting with them utilizing a multitude of different tools.Let's first take a look at the importance of brand strategy and then cover several strategies to help you engage with your audience and turn them into loyal customers.Brand StrategyBefore employing specific marketing methods, it's essential to grasp what it is you hope to achieve with your overall brand strategy. Commonly mistaken for straightforward business features like your logo, product or your company's website, your brand encompasses much more.Branding runs through every aspect of what you and your team do - from how you answer the phones to the design choices you make for your marketing materials to how well your product or service performs to the way you engage with clients.Branding infuses both what you produce and how you make people feel when they interact with that output. The most successful brand strategies include several core elements that inform every facet of your business:PurposeSure, practically every company's mission is to be profitable, but to have lasting success, your goal must go beyond dollars and cents. Are you only wanting to sell a product, or do you want to enhance the lives of those who use it? Do you want to grow your business or do you want to increase the way those who work for and with your company benefit from it? The difference in approach may be subtle, but the lasting positive impact on your organization can be profound.Example: Seattle-based Starbucks is, of course, all about coffee. But the worldwide brand strives to be more than just a coffee shop. With a socially conscious mission, Starbucks champions diverse initiatives that include sustainable coffee, meaningful employment, and stronger communities.FlexibilityMarkets are always changing. To keep up, your branding and messaging have to find new and innovative ways to appeal to an audience. That doesn’t mean you have to change your logo every 12 months (consistency is important too, as we cover next). Discovering new angles to showcase your brand, partner with others or speak to your audience helps you reach new clients and keep things interesting for those who have already committed to your brand. Example: Target has gone against the "online" grain and is rolling out a new small store concept in urban markets, where their standard, big box footprint would be out of touch with the location's density and local attributes. ConsistencyWhile flexibility is vital to staying relevant in a fast-changing world, you also want current and prospective customers to know who you are and the foundational values you represent. This is particularly important if you've been successful in carving out a niche in a competitive market and don't want to alienate clients. Make use of style guides that inform and standardize your look and messaging, regardless if you're using it in on the web, through social media or in a physical store.Example: Tech giant Apple is perhaps the Mount Everest of consistent branding. Everything from their products and the packaging they come in to their advertising to their corporate headquarters are always unmistakably Apple.EngagementGreat product. Great message. And still no customers? Products and services are rarely instant successes. Instead, successful brands figure out ways to connect with customers and create an emotional attachment that makes the buyer feel as if they are part of something bigger. Recognize how your product or service enriches a user’s life and then play up that connection to generate more meaningful engagement with your customers. Example: Coca-Cola's bright, welcoming aesthetic inviting people to be part of their brand is well established. For the past decade, one of the world's largest drink brands has taken this engagement to the next level with the simple, yet highly engaging “Share a Coke” campaign.Consider some of the biggest brands in the world - Apple, Coca-Cola, Starbucks - and how recognizable their brands - and brand strategies - have become. Yet they continue to evolve in an attempt to reach more potential consumers. You don't need to be an international behemoth to employ a comprehensive and successful brand strategy.  Simply by understanding who your company is, knowing what you offer and connecting with an audience who stands to benefit most, allows your brand to shine.Five Modern Marketing StrategiesWith that understanding of branding and overall marketing strategy, here are five modern methods that can enhance your brand and grow your business.Lead Magnet and Content MarketingIt's the most classic of starting points for all businesses - what solution does your product provide? The best lead magnets crystallize why your brand matters. Identify an audience's problem or question and then present your case for not just being the answer but the only answer.Lead magnets like ebooks, FAQs, checklists, surveys or guides are most useful when you use funnel marketing. This means you grab the prospect's attention with something of value in exchange for their contact info. Then, you can continue connecting with them via other methods, drawing them further down the “funnel” to eventually become a customer. However, lead magnets can be more than just one-off content pieces to capture an email address - they are also effective as engaging, stand-alone marketing or promotional pieces.Email MarketingIt may seem a little low-tech compared to some of today's more advanced tools, but email remains a massively popular form of communication. If done well, it can provide an impressive ROI, or return on investment. For example, Hubspot notes that for every dollar spent on email, you can earn $38 in return, which is a 3,800% ROI. And, more than 59% of marketers say that their biggest source of ROI is through email. Those stats show that email has matured quite a bit in the past few years. The productiveness of your email marketing depends on your commitment to it. Automate your email and customize responses based on the actions of your subscribers, such as when they click a link, navigate to a page, view an item or leave an item in their online cart. You can also personalize your content based on demographics and who they are, whether they are a visitor making a first-time purchase or a satisfied and returning customer. This effort allows you to nurture relationships with your audience and provide touchpoints for them regardless of how they engage with your brand. Social MediaFor many firms today, their marketing begins and ends with social media. It's easy to see why. Sprout Social indicates that social media continues to grow in the number of users and opportunities for engagement with both customers and non-customers. It seems that everyone engages with some form of social media and for your brand not to be involved in at least one platform is a huge missed opportunity.Consider your audience to pick which social media platforms are best for your company. Consider having a business page on Facebook and including Facebook ads as part of your advertising strategy. In addition, consider joining platforms such as Snapchat, Twitter or Instagram, which can also produce valuable direct engagement for both B2Cs and B2Bs.The crucial factor of social media is to be authentic. Many platforms are less about making a sale and more about being part of a conversation. Certainly, don't be shy about promoting your products, services and solutions. But to find social media success, your organization's voice must be genuine and focused on your audience’s experience. Video MarketingWould it surprise you to learn that YouTube is the world's second most popular site - behind Google and ahead of Facebook? It's also the second most popular search engine. In other words, video is big. While no one expects you start producing 30-minute infomercials, taking advantage of video's popularity and the boost it gives your SEO. From product guides and demos to tutorials to two--minute industry-specific info pieces, developing a library of videos sets you apart from competitors while also building another engagement point for your audience. House those video libraries on both your website and a channel on YouTube to increase their exposure.Influencer MarketingWord of mouth has always been a reliable means of marketing for many industries. Unfortunately, the traditional method of creating buzz can take a lot of time and patience as you build a satisfied customer base willing to spread the word. Today, that doesn’t have to be the case anymore.Influencer marketing is supercharging word of mouth with brands partnering with influencers to increase visibility among other circles of followers. If you think your business isn't fit for this type of marketing, think again. Influencers are everywhere and are capable of moving the needle on practically any product or service. For your company to see a big payoff, you'll want to identify the right influencer for your brand and marketing strategy. Look for influencers who have a following similar to the type of audience you want to target. You don't need to aim for the stars either. Micro-influencers reach thousands of individuals at a far lower entry threshold.Final ThoughtsWhen it comes to researching and implementing your branding and marketing strategies, keep your audience in mind. No matter your branding and marketing approach, make sure to test and retest everything you do. By its very nature of convincing others to believe in your business and buy the product you're selling, marketing is an inexact science. Perfect it by understanding your audience as well as your company and its purpose, and then refine the message you want to convey. Leverage all of the channels at your disposal where your audience can be found to share that message and realize your organization's true potential. Grow in Practical Application with a Degree Understanding the foundational concepts of marketing and brand awareness is helpful in whatever business-related industry you find yourself in. Grow in your understanding of core concepts like marketing through a business degree program at PGS. BORN FREE TO LIVE IN A CAGE
 16 March 2018

All over the world, countries celebrate their independence day with great pride and gusto showcasing their strength and progress to be admired and awed by people. However, I wonder at times are we; human beings really free or liberated? Do we enjoy freedom in true sense? I’ll keep my thought process limited to India without going to the other parts of the world.Every human being according to me is free only at the time of birth. A baby has no worries about projecting the “right public image” and is happy doing anything and everything he wants to. As we grow, we are caged, shackled in many chains by the society- Social, cultural, emotional and lately technological. It starts when the baby (I’ll use ‘She’ as a pronoun as it encompasses ‘he’ too J!) is hardly a toddler. Parents love to show off his/her talents without any consideration for his/her moods and fancies. She has to sing or dance and entertain the relatives who are often least interested. Then there is a marathon for the best school in the city. The kid is again forced to mug up the likely questions to be asked at the interview, learn to behave in a certain manner at the age when she just wants to be left on her/his own.    Once at school the comparison starts with all the other children. Every parent wants the child to be the best - marvelling at studies, sports, debates and elocutions, arts, theatre, social etiquette and so on. In short she has to be a Superwoman, while the mothers sweat over every small detail like deciding what hobbies are “in”, what vitamin supplements to give the child for super-built body and extra-intelligent brain, what kind of clothes are in vogue for kids and so on. All advertisements put the pressure on parents to make a scientist/ doctor/ engineer or any professional (Please note that none off the advertisements think much of artists or farmersL! No wonders farmers have remained the most vulnerable lot in our “agrarian” economy for decades!). The harried parents, in turn pass on this frenzied madness on to their children. Every parent dreams of having a super successful child prodigy, irrespective of own talents that he has passed on in the child’s DNA at birth. We want our children to follow the career chart we have created for them taking in consideration the status, social acceptance, and money it will yield. What the child’s interests are is totally ignored.Once the school and college marathon is over and youth gets a plum job, then the other social pressures build up. A girl must learn to be graceful, super talented at juggling home and demanding career, must be having all the socially accepted attributes like – fair, tall, slim, social yet home-loving, educated yet sacrificing, modern yet with traditional values and the list is endless. This brings me to the fairness obsession in our country where most girls are bound to be wheat complexioned due to our geographic and climatic conditions. Having a dusky complexion is looked down upon and if you have a darker skin only God or fairness creams save you! I find the advertisements so ridiculous when a girl dreaming of a great career has to rely on fairness creams to prove her mettle! If she wants to remain single by choice then hell breaks loose. If she marries then her womanhood is not considered complete till she delivers a baby. Why I wonder, in a free country it becomes a privilege of all and sundry to barge into couple’s bedroom and discuss why are they not having kids and what could be wrong with them. Can we not let the parents decide when they want to bring in a life that is going to be their responsibility till they are alive?Men on the other hand are forced to bring home a handsome pay package and comparisons of how much comforts and luxury a neighbour can afford to give his wife vis- a -vis the poor husband becomes a main topic of contention. Once they become parents they too merrily join the same rat race that their parents had joined to ruin them. These are some of the socio-cultural shackles I strongly feel about. Emotional shackles too are somewhat intertwined in these as usually our Indian society loves to emotionally blackmail their loved ones to follow their commands. Log kya kahenge is the most dangerous epidemic that has been afflicted by Asian psyche. Social approval is a bug that has bitten all of us. Imagine the emotional state of a young girl when she is more than often rejected because she is NOT fair, slim or beautiful. She is most often an easy prey to depression. I wonder why we give so much importance to external attributes while totally ignoring the more important ones like nature, intelligence, compatibility etc. in a life partner. Are we shopping here for a curio to beautify home or wanting someone with whom we can share our lives! And same things go for men too - what with markets flooded with anti-balding treatments and all those fairness creams for men? He too is expected to earn well, be qualified with the most lucrative degree, have a macho figure etc. I often hear young girls asking for well sculpted men as their life partners. SO now the fire has reached even the other side of the society. At a young age he’s expected to offer all the comforts and luxuries when he’s still building his career!Added to all these cages, the worst shackle is the technology. We think human being created technology for comforts but today it has totally backfired on us impacting every aspect of the society. Just look around and see for yourself what have smart phones done to our lives! The downfall that started with the idiot box and further fuelled with the internet has been completed by the smart phones. Phones are getting smarter and humans are getting dumber. I’ve nothing against technology and if used sensibly it can be a great boon. We can now reach the entire world in a split second. Emails have become a passé with the advent of other more powerful and faster means of communication. Often Facebook and twitter has helped in reuniting people or in sending across a useful message. Today I too am saying what I feel thanks to this technology. We can surely not ignore the good things. However, we can’t turn a blind eye to the damage it does to our most profound institutions of marriage, family and society as a whole.  Families are fast disintegrating today as each one is happy to be in his on anda cell created by his Laptop, smart phone, personal TV or a tablet, and is constantly in his world with his headsets on. Cheating in marriages has never been so rampant and easy with the right to privacy. Virtual affairs ruin many marriages as one doesn’t understand that virtual love is bound to appear “perfect” and it’s only when you actually start life together you need to adjust and understand. Recently, a study revealed how social skills are being affected in this generation that spends most of its time in the virtual world. Family time is unheard of with each one immersed in his on virtual world. We forget that though wired from all sides we are not robots but human beings who are bound to need emotions like warmth, love and touch to thrive. The older generation who is not very tech savvy feels the brunt the most. They are mostly treated like a piece of furniture. The youth has no connect with parents leave alone grandparents. In our desire to connect across miles we have been disconnected from our own family.Family outings, dinners and gatherings do happen surprisingly even today but the most time and attention is hogged by these smart phones. Family time has become a joke with each member immersed in one’s cell phone- exchanging messages. Checking face book updates, updating status and so on.The family vacations are more for clicking selfies and check-ins to let the whole world on social media know the exotic place one is heading to. There have been many stand up comedies, what’s app forwards and tongue in cheek cartoons aimed at this but I feel we are quick to ignore these warning bells and laugh it off merely as a humour. So many have lost lives clicking selfies at dangerous spots but we are too slow to understand the implications. Are we really a generation of dimwits and our cell phones smarter than us? Only God save us in such situation…!All pictures Courtesy- https://unsplash.com

Bhagavad Gita Verse 2.22
 19 July 2019

Life Is Change - In Gita Verse 2.22 As a person puts on new garments, giving up old ones, the soul similarly accepts new material bodies, giving up the old and useless ones.In this verse Krishna is speaking about the law of Change.Misery arises because we don't allow change to happen. We cling, we want things to be static. If you love a woman you want her tomorrow too, the same way as she is yours today. That´s how misery arises. Nobody can be certain about the next moment – what to say about tomorrow?A man of awareness knows that life is constantly changing. Life is change. There is only one thing permanent, and that is change. Except change, everything else changes. To accept this nature of life, to accept this changing existence with all its seasons and moods, this constant flow that never stops for a single moment, is to be blissful. Then nobody can disturb your bliss. It is your hankering for permanency that creates troubles for you. If you want to live a life with no change – you are asking the impossible.A man of awareness becomes courageous enough to accept the changing phenomena. In that very acceptance is bliss. Then all is good. Then you are never frustrated.Fear of Change:Every change creates fear, because every change is putting you into the unfamiliar, into a strange world. If nothing changes and everything remains static, you will never have any fear. That means, if everything is dead, you will not be afraid. For example, you are sitting down and there is a rock lying down. There is no problem: you will look at the rock, and everything is okay. Suddenly the rock starts walking; you become frightened. Aliveness! Movement creates fear; and if everything is unmoving, there is no fear. That’s why people, afraid of getting into fearful situations, arrange a life of no change. Everything remains the same and a person follows a dead routine, completely oblivious that life is a flux. He remains in an island of his own making in which nothing changes. The same room, the same photographs, the same furniture, the same house, the same habits, the same slippers – everything the same. The same brand of cigarettes; even a different brand you won’t like. Between this, amidst this sameness, one feels at ease.People live almost in their graves. What you call a convenient and comfortable life is nothing but a subtle grave. So when you start changing, when you start on the journey of inner space, when you become an astronaut of the inner space, and everything is changing so fast, every moment is trembling with fear. So more and more fear has to be faced.Let it be there. By and by you will start enjoying the changes so much that you will be ready at any cost. Change will give you vitality...more aliveness, zest, energy. Then you will not be like a pond...closed from everywhere, not moving. You will become like a river flowing towards the unknown, and towards the ocean where the river becomes lost.Arjuna when coming up with all his logical arguments clearly indicates that he got afraid of change. He wanted to live same miserable life. He wanted to live the life which was dictated by Kauravas. Their entire life they lived a life which was dictated by Kauravas.Recollect your life incidence when you were afraid of change you were not ready to move, so much of suffocation of physical, mental and emotional. For you life of slavery was okay than a life of freedom.Krishna is telling Arjuna to allow the change, which is only on the surface , your soul, your subjectivity needs freedom. They are unchangeable. Give up life which is dictated by others. Allow the Change.

WITH MYSELF
 7 March 2018

Iwake up in the cashmere glow of my white sheet; the sun's shining bright and I go and get dressed in a lavender lilac dress. My unmade hair flies more than it should, as it flows away with the wind; it's raining now. The sun comes and goes; the rain never stops waiting. Their love is futile, but so is everything in love. The guy at the coffee shop smiles at me a little more today, more than he usually does everyday. I give a faint smile back. I sit down as I look at a stranger walk in, he wasn't one a summer ago. I can almost smell the daisies he got me, clutching them as he was nervous about our first date, I can remember our first date, the second, the third, and all of the others. I'm not great at remembering smells, but this smell is like a spell. And I do not know how to break a charm. It was love that I had in mind a summer ago, it is till now that he has a love for just himself. It's still raining even though the sun is still out, enough to drench my hair and my dress wet. I look at people running for cover; a woman goes running past me, after her hat. It is a complete mayhem though, but this is a feeling nothing can replace. I twirl my lilac dress and laugh, I laugh hard enough that I gather unwanted stern looks from strangers as the rain drops still dance with me, and I realise, I don't care about their opinions anymore. It's the funny feeling in my stomach that makes me laugh at nothing. I'm happy. I feel alive. Am I in love? Probably. And for the first time, with myself.#smblogcontest

Interview With Anuradha Singh
 18 June 2018

Anuradha is working in the field of academics from past 18 years. She has worked in a variety of schools across India as an English Language teacher, along with an experience of working in Nalanda University. She is also an avid blogger and writes from her heart at www. anuradhastringsofmyheart.com Being alumni of Fergusson college, Pune and a post graduate in English Literature and then working as a teacher; writing poems, travelogues, articles and then a novel came naturally to her. As an army officer wife, she has experienced and explored India from North to South and East to West as India’s true citizen. Though a Punekar by birth, she loves every moment of her wandering life and calls herself as the new age gypsy. A mother of two boisterous boys and a charming lady wife of a serving officer, a teacher and a writer, she wears all these varied caps with élan. What inspires you to write the book?Social evil spread rampant made me restless and that restlessness made me write a story of triumph of good over evil that too a battle waged by a woman who had nothing extraordinary about her, just will to eradicate evil from society and save her brethren. How did publishing your debut novel “The Mysterious Widows of Mehboobpura” change your process of writing?I am even more motivated, more responsible and disciplined. Of course since I have gone through the process once now I know the do’s and don’t of the craft. What is the main thing you want readers to take away from this book? The central idea of the book that social evils like drugs and other things which can finish a complete generation, a healthy society should be curbed and finished at all costs, it is possible to fight against it at your level, individually as well and it should be done by each and everyone of us.What are your hobbies, passion other than writing?Other than writing I enjoy travelling, listening to music and of course I read a lot.If I have a good book in my hand then I forget everything else.Do you recall the first ever book/novel you read?Yes, I was very small then, mere 3 year old. My father got me an illustrated dictionary with amazing illustrations to describe the word, along with an interesting sentence. I kept that book with me for longest time. It was part of my childhood memories. I lost it somewhere when we changed our house. What does your writing/reading space look like?My writing place is very quiet, calming. It changes according to the perception of a person. For me, my book getting published, gives me a stupendous feeling for the main reason that words do not have death. Words change into knowledge and will always float in this worldly space. How did you feel when the publisher accepted your draft for the first time ?The idea of the novel was revolving in my head for quite sometime, it was crystal clear in my head. When it got accepted by the publisher though, i gave a contented sigh, as it was a first sign that now the book is on its way for publishing.Tell us something interesting that has occurred since you became a writer? It is overall a good feeling, when people read my book and come up to me or call me to tell that they enjoyed it thoroughly. This feeling that I can give a good story to people, and people can take something out of it , gives a high. One character from your books, that you like the most?Though the character of the main protagonist Ira is very impressive. I like the character Jagtar for his struggle, the ups and down that he goes through. What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?The chapter where Ira visits the pind with Nimrat. I wanted to make it very interesting. I myself was on edge while writing it, as the words were tumbling off my fingers so fast, it was thrilling writing it down. What is that dream goal you want to achieve before you die?To write stories of varied genre, unique characters, thrilling plots, engaging narrative and reach widest number of readers.A message for aspiring writers?Write from your heart, tell a story which you must.It was really a privilege interviewing you. Are you going to take the GCP Cloud Architect’s Certification Exam?
 16 September 2019

Everyone thinks that he is not one to put too much confidence on exams and certifications to ascertain a person’s abilities. A university degree proves that you have the capability to concentrate, retain facts, study and pass exams but not everyone has the chance in life to attend university. But in practical life you have totally biased on your actual experience and general intellectual ability. So having some sort of certifications your chances of job increases. Today, the scope of Google Professional Cloud Architect certification is increasing rapidly.I am sharing my experience about GCP certification exam. GCP have been hard at work developing a set of professional certifications. GCP is not just concentrated on how adept you are at python or Java as the previous set of training and tests associated with them seemed to be. As an architect I was confused.I wanted to see exams and certifications that would help people with architecting solutions for GCP. Before exam suddenly I realized that wasn’t the case and this was going to be a professional level exam. That was good and bad!Good:A good solid well thought through cert for each specialization so it did make me think about the areas of GCP I needed to double down on.Bad:My co-workers had to put up with me grumbling as I realized the undue pressure I’d put myself under. I didn’t study properly.About GCP Cloud Architect’s Certification ExamLength: 2 hoursRegistration fee:$200 (plus tax where applicable)Languages: English, Japanese, Spanish, and Portuguese.Exam format: Multiple choice and multiple selectPrerequisites: NoneThis is not a tick in the box exercise it is aimed at making sure that anyone who holds this certification actually does have an applicable level of knowledge on GCP.My tips for preparing for the GCP Cloud Architecture Professional Certification:Actual hands on experience —This is the best way to prepare and is probably the only reason I managed to pass despite my woeful lack of preparation. What Is Dahabiya

When it comes to River Nile cruises, most people know about the large cruise boats and feluccas, some people know about yachts, but few people know anything about dahabiyas, which take their name from the Arabic word for gold: dahab (the earliest form of this boat was golden coloured). This is rather ironic as the dahabiya was the mode of transport, on the Nile, long before the modern day diesels, or the steamers made famous by Agatha Christie's "Death on the Nile".The dahabiya is a (usually) two-masted sailing boat that relies on wind power: it has no engines except for a generator that makes electricity. This gives it something that is in very short supply nowadays: silence! Sailing on a dahabiya allows the sound of the river splashing against the boat on of the only sounds you will hear, along with the singing of the birds (and the diesels in the distance). You can relax and imagine yourself as one of the aristocrats or elite travellers during the days of the monarchy, or even a member of the monarchy, as this is how they used to negotiate the river. Elegance and style, that is what they were built for; four to ten cabins, fully equipped bathrooms, elaborate furnishings, and servants to do everything. Nowadays it is very similar, though more modern and with the necessities of today, with electricity, Wi-Fi, showers, etc.The history of the dahabiya goes back to the Pharaonic times: there are inscriptions of very similar boats in the tombs of ancient Egyptian Kings and Nobles. Famous Egyptian leaders, such as King Farouk and President Sadat, had their own dahabiyas and the English novelist, journalist, traveller and Egyptologist, Emilia Edwards, even had a piano installed on hers. Aristocrats loved them, especially as the journey could take up to two or three months to complete, stopping at all the sights between Cairo and Abu Simbel (no Aswan High Dam in those days), with the whole trip being one of pure decadence and style.Sadly, the end of the monarchy also signalled the end of the dahabiya! Steam power was the rage, soon to be overtaken by gasoline and/or diesel engines. However, the dahabiya was not forgotten, and very soon, amongst all the large cruise boats sailing up and down the River Nile, the two masts of the dahabiya slowly started to re-emerge. Visitors were starting to realise that the peace and tranquillity that they sought, could be found. As well as that, the shallower draft meant that these boats could sail closer to the many islands dotted along the river, giving access to places like Gebel El Silsila; out of bounds for the heavier cruise boats. This also allows for experiences like dinner in front of the "Speos of Horemheb": an illuminated meal that you will never forget, and all thanks to the dahabiya's shallower draft and smaller passenger capacity. The other huge advantage with being able to snuggle up to these smaller islands is that the River Nile now becomes your swimming pool. You can dive and swim to your heart's content, or sit back and watch the frolicking of others from the sands of the island.During its journey the dahabiya will stop to collect supplies of food, either from riverside markets, or directly from local farmers and gardeners: everything is fresh and cooked as required. Frozen food? Forget it! Throughout the day mineral water and tea are available, as well as cups of strong Turkish coffee, karkade (hibiscus), or fresh fruit juice. You can even savour some local beer and wine.Imagine being lulled to sleep by the gentle lapping of the waves, only interrupted by the call of a bird. This is night time on a dahabiya! Serene nights; peaceful days; silent sailing; total relaxation; and all available today, as it was almost 100 years ago.Although we use the spelling "dahabiya", it can also be spelled as: dahabeeya, zahabiya, dahabeyya, dahabiah, dahabiyah, dhahabiyya, dahabiyeh, dahabieh, dahabeah, and dahabeya.Book Dahabiya Nile Cruise from here: Dahabiya Nile Cruise | Luxury Nile Cruises | Dahabiya

Bhagavad Gita Verse 2.41
 7 August 2019

Our Role - In Gita Verse 2.41 Those who are on this path are resolute in purpose, and their aim is one. O beloved child of the Kurus, the intelligence of those who are irresolute is many-branched.Krishna is saying those human being who had understanding of the purpose of human birth - GROW IN CONSCIOUSNESS - this is the assignment of universe to human beings. Once you become self-alert you realize your assignment of the universe, you will start living in this objective world but acting from your subjective world. The person who has realised this will be always enthusiastic to act or not, to act for that person of realization life is a play he is only playing his role. His focus will be how to play in totality. He will be total in his act. Like an actor when he is acting in movie and he has to murder someone or he has to fight war with someone he knows that he is playing his role and unless he is total role will not be successful. So what he does is without any kind of emotions he plays his role, as he knows that by murdering or killing someone in the war is not going to make any difference in his personality nor will it dent it. But if he plays his role fully that will give him fame and further opportunities.Same is in our real life - we are just playing our role given by Universe. For that we need the objective also. From the objective world we get certain circumstances in that circumstances we need to play our role. While playing the role we need our intelligence - for strategy, how and when to use the resources, how to increase our resources through our actions, - with the intelligence we need qualities like wait, watchfulness, balance, acceptance, looking into the present moment’s requirement we need to change our decision etc.Now if we play our role in objective world which is nothing but the screen of cinema, as soon as we have finished our role of that moment we need to allow other things to come on the screen. If in all this synchronicity will happen then you will find that in the middle of the world you are unaffected by the objective world. He will become participant in this world. For him nothing like sin or virtues . Everything is divine for him.Synchronistic events provide an immediate religious experience as a direct encounter with the compensatory patterning of events in nature as a whole, both inwardly and outwardly. The law of synchronicity has to be understood. This is one of the greatest contributions of Carl Gustav Jung to modern humanity: the law of synchronicity.Science is based on the law of causality. The law of causality is mechanical. You heat water to a hundred degrees – it evaporates. Where you heat it is irrelevant – in the temple, in the church, in the mosque, it doesn’t matter; in India, in Tibet, it doesn’t matter. If you heat water to a hundred degrees, it evaporates; the water has no say in it. The water cannot say, “Today I am not feeling like it.” Or, “Today is Sunday and I am on a holiday, and I am not interested in becoming vapour.” Or, “Today I am not in the mood, and you can go on heating and heating and I will not evaporate.” Or, “Today I am suddenly feeling very generous towards you so I will evaporate at fifty degrees. I will favour you.” No, the water has no choice. The law is mechanical, it is causal. If you create the cause, the effect has to follow. And it is without any exception. The credit goes to Carl Gustav Jung. The law has been known down the ages, but nobody had named it exactly. He called it ‘the law of synchronicity’. It suddenly happened to a scientist: A scientist a hundred years ago was staying in an old house. In that old house there were two old clocks on the same wall. He was surprised to see that they always kept exactly the same time, second to second: “Old clocks, and so perfect? Not even a single second’s difference?”Being a scientist he became curious. He put one clock five minutes back, and after twenty-four hours in the morning when he looked again, they were again keeping the same time. Now it was a great puzzle. He enquired… nobody had changed, nobody had touched anything. He tried again and again, and again and again they would come to the same rhythm. Then he tried to find out: “What is happening? – something strange. They are disconnected!”Then he observed more minutely and he came to conclude: “The vibration of one clock, which is more powerful, the bigger clock, goes through the wall – just the vibration – and keeps the other clock in tune. It is a subtle rhythm. Nothing is visible.”That was the beginning of a new phenomenon… then many many more things happened. And by the time Carl Gustav Jung started working on how things happen in consciousness, he came to conclude that the vibe of one heart, if it is powerful enough, can change the rhythm of another heart — just like the bigger clock was changing the smaller clock. The vibe is invisible. There is not yet any way to measure it, but it is there. It is not tangible, but it functions. It is not causal. The way in which one heart can change the rhythm of another heart same way when you live in the objective world and act from your subjectivity there aries a rhythm, synchronicity of objective world and subjective world, the whole environment will change around you. It has been said that in the 3 kilometers of radius of Buddha and Mahavira everything will become non-violence. Even the wild animal will become friendly. Now our objective world is visible but subjective world is invisible. If we act in objective world from our subjectivity, our actions will be aligned with universeal direction, from that act you will not be in the vicious circle of sin or virtues but simply play your role and in that always you will find there will be more opportunities and growth is possible.Krishna says Arjuna who realize themselves as a human being they just play their role. So come back to your subjectivity and just play your role.

Your full name:Aditi BhushanPlease give details about your initial education and forming years of life.My father was serving Indian Defense, due to which my initial education has taken place in South-Indian states in Kendriya Vidyalayas, CBSE Board. Major part of my schooling took place in Mumbai. When I stepped in College life, I chosen the professional technical course Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) from SNDT Women’s university based out at Mumbai. I completed my post-graduation as Masters of Science in Computer Application from Symbiosis International University, Pune. This gave me the direction to become a software engineer. After Marriage and Pregnancy, I chose to swap my career option to prosper my family responsibilities. I completed two more professional bachelor degree courses, one in Library Science (BLIS) and another as Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) from University of Mumbai, This way, today I am having three professional Bachelor’s Degree. I love to upgrade myself, and thus I always keep my studies on.How did you get interested in literature? What inspired you to write?  Literature has always drawn my attention since childhood. In childhood, I was a very shy kind of person. I started to write mini poems since I was eight. And my only audience who was allowed to read them was my Mom. Whether it is English Literature or Hindi Sahitya, they are my favorite past times and I love to spend most of my time into reading something. I mostly prefer mythology.I give credit to my friend Mr. Atul Singh, who was the only writer in my big friend circle. What inspired me from him was that being mechanical cum marine engineer he used to write moral punchlines and poetries over Facebook. Somewhere, I felt after seeing his posts, even I should also try it. I appreciate that he came up putting them on Facebook, as I found this helpful to publish my own written posts over my shy nature. My interest in mythology and practice of Krishna Consciousness has made me to put up my first ever-Hindi version of poem over Krishna. I shared in on Facebook, and I got good comments from my friends. This pushed me more in writing, after some time, I found myself expressing my feelings mostly in form of some poetries. Whatever I write comes from a chapter of my life. What difficulties did you have to face with respect to literary work? Looking for the right word. What is your view about the present day literary work? People have immense talent, it inspires me how organized and in orderly manner they express their ideas in present day literary work.Do you think that the emergence of digital and social media has given a new opportunity to creative writers? Indeed. With advent of digital media, it has become very easy to work and enhance your language skills. To build up your vocabulary and most important, you do not have to look for a teacher every time to correct your mistakes. Everything is taken care by internet. Please tell us something about your literary work. I do write on my personal blogs and do publish research articles. But StoryMirror is the only platform that has given me my space to write. What was your first literary work and how was it published? It was a research article on e-assessment of mathematics for secondary students, where I alone have researched, written and published it with International Journal of Science and Research Publication. How many ways literature can contribute to society in future?I feel literature can induce moral values, empathy, patriotism and feeling of sacrifices to current and upcoming generation to produce a productive nation oriented society.Where do you see yourself after 5 years in the literary world?Emerging as better writer. What ways would you suggest to build a community for poets? We can have a dedicated group on whatsapp or facebook. Where we can share ideas. What message would you like to give to aspiring new writers? Never underestimate your caliber of writing. Appreciate critics and work on them. How was your experience of writing on Storymirror?  Excellent. I thank you StoryMirror for many people like us, who wants to write but due to lack of proper medium, usually don’t write. I found myself communicating my ideas, my narratives on StoryMirror very useful, as more I write the more I get motivated to write.Would you like to say something about Storymirror?StoryMirror is doing the best of its kind of work. I call this a big social work, a big help to grow our children as writers. I would encourage my students and kids to put up their write-ups with StoryMirror. Because nor only you inspire us, you motivate us with best rewards and certificates. Thank You StoryMirror. Keep up this good work always up.Here is the link to read my content https://storymirror.com/profile/ltwrplgo/aditi-priya/stories

Bhagavad Gita Verse 2.15
 12 July 2019

Mind And Consciousness - In Gita Verse 2.15 O best among men [Arjuna], the person who is not disturbed by happiness and distress and is steady in both is certainly eligible for liberation. Now Krishna is reminding Arjuna, during his life he has lived in middle. Did not get disturbed by happiness or distress. Read carefully Krishna is reminding him not praising him. There is a difference in reminding and praising. Why he is reminding Arjuna regarding himself, so that he can become alert and watchful, and not unconscious towards himself. It’s just like a mother waking up the child, whispering and reminding him it’s time to go to school. Krishna is awakening Arjuna from his unconsciousness. He also said that the person who is in the middle is certainly eligible for liberation. Liberation is not after the death. Liberation means liberation from unconsciousness. Person can feel freedom and liberation only when he can become self-alert or self-conscious.By saying Arjuna is eligible means he can be liberated right now if he becomes watchful and self-conscious. Krishna is very specifically told his eligibility, but didn’t say that you are liberated. During his life he has lived in the middle, not disturbed by happiness or distress, at that time he was liberated. But right now he is in bondage.Recollect a time when you were really not willing to use your intelligence, I am not saying intellect, saying intelligence, we are habitual to use our intellect but not our itelligence. Intellect is connected with mind, information of objective world and following it. This will create bondage. When we use our intelligence means our wisdom, which has fragrance of self-alertness, life, we are liberated. Some incident in your life when you felt there is no way out that is the time when you are not using your intelligence but intellect. Your focus is on the problem and not on solution. Whenever our focus is on the problem we are using our intellect and not intelligence.Look at the scientists whenever they are doing any research their focus is on what are the possibilities, they take any object but their focus is on what more possibility is there. They don’t get stuck at the object or at the end result, means expected result, their whole focus is in this moment to find more possibility from that object. They are taking the object and all the information, but do not get stuck over there. Then they look at the object in a different way they change their paradigm from information on the object to possibility from the object. They transcend their intellect to intelligence. In that they find freedom which is first step towards liberation. Now in our daily life we have object as circumstances to act, if we use our intellect means we are only using the information collected from various resources so it becomes bondage or problem. It will create emotions like anger, irritations, anxiety, etc. We will be in misery. Same circumstances if like scientist we take it and think what right now is the possibility for me to handle this circumstance, you will immediately calm down and instead of focusing on the circumstances you will watch the circumstances. Looking the circumstances as possibility, and not as a problem.Everyone of us today is facing the problem of traffic. Specially those who live in metropolitan cities. Either you can look at it as problem or you can think what else you can do while you are in traffic. Even the thought of what you can do while you are in traffic the thought itself will calm you down. What exactly has happened is you have directed your energy from problem to possibility. Problem is tiny, narrow and possibility is vast. Your mind is tiny and consciousness is vast you have turned from tiny to vast - so relaxed. You became capable of transforming your emotions to sensitivity. Now look at Arjuna when for him the war was assignment of universe, Fighting Without Enmity, by that he will be contributor to humanity. He was connected with vast, his consciousness. He was liberated. As soon as he became unconscious towards the self immediately he became miserable. He started thinking in terms of intellect which will appeal to our mind but not to the consciousness. Only living master or person like Krishna will be of help to turn our unconsciousness to consciousness, tiny to vast. The real living master is only a presence. He has no intentions of being a master. His presence is his teaching. His love is his message. Every gesture of his hand is pointing to the moon. And this whole thing is not being done, it is a happening. The master is not a doer. He has learned the greatest secret of life: let-go.The living master has drowned his ego and the idea of separation from existence itself. He is no longer there as a separate entity, he is just a window. You can see through the window the infinite sky and the expanding universe: the sunrise, the sunset, a bird on the wing, the lotus opening its being, releasing its fragrance. The living master is just an immense emptiness.Krishna in this verse by saying these words “the person who is not disturbed by happiness and distress and is steady in both is certainly eligible for liberation” he presents his emptiness, he is giving space to Arjuna to come out from unconsciousness to consciousness.
