Nano Story: Beautiful One!My car screeched and came to an abrupt halt. With a jerk my purse perched on left seat too toppled and the mobile landed on the car floor. My car standstill, due to the traffic jam, timing it I bent down to pick up the mobile. I was halfway up when I heard,’Hey beautiful lady, please give me something.”I turned sideways and saw a Eunuch. A moon faced one, with broad bindi and danglers , nicely decked up ,I heard her repeat,'Beautiful Madam, please give me with your generous heart.’clapping her hands she repeated the word beautiful again and again. I gazed at her for sometime...neatly dressed ,giving a broad smile. Her broad smile did all the talking with it's rippling effect.I smiled in return, took out a 50 rupees note and handed over to her. She took the note quietly and said again, ‘Beautiful one ,remain happy always.’Clapping her hands and tucking the note in her blouse, she moved forward on to her next client. Traffic released the car moved forward. I was smiling to myself with a happy feel. The the way she used the word beautiful had some catch in it.Her strategy I guess...Yes it was a beautiful one at that!Kiren Babal25.5.2018

The new year is all around and everyone is busy filling his or her journals and brainstorming with his or her goals and resolutions. There are infinite dimensions in which you can think about life and there are myriads of aspects in which you can define your goals and achievements. This 2019, I want to share a story that my grandmother has once read to me (a bit inclined to self-care goal). The story begins ...Once upon a time, there used to exist a village where people were not having access to the mirror. So, everyone can see other person but they don't exactly know how they themselves look?. Besides this, they were so much happy with their life that they never inquired about their appearance. There was a common assumption that we all are from the same species so we all are some versions of each other. There was a mutual understanding between self-ego and social ego.One dark night, a monk was crossing the village. Because of pitch dark night, he was not able to identify the hurdles in his path and after walking a while he felt some pricking pain in his foot. He understood that it might be some thorns, but to his bad omen, his foot started bleeding badly. Holding his foot with hands, he sat down under a tree as the pain was unbearable. After a while, he saw someone approaching him but as per the silhouette, it was a woman wearing all black robe from top to bottom. She had a first aid box in her hands. She sat down beside him and started dressing his wounds. The monk started observing her as if he wanted to know who is she? She had covered her whole body and face with black cloth except her eyes. He saw her eyes, it was magical full of positive energy and good vibes. But, the monk could see some scars in her eyes, some hidden scars. She did the dressing with full dedication and devotion, her work was full of compassion. The monk paid his gratitude for the service and blessed her with prosperity and happiness. Just out of curiosity he asked her-"Why have your covered yourself in a black robe from top to bottom?"She said - "Because I am ugly?"Monk - "How do you know? Who told you?"She - "Because I saw myself in the mirror."Monk - "But I have heard that people of this village don't have access to the mirror and that's the mystery which bridges their self-ego to the social ego. In fact, I have heard that the shadow of inferiority complex has not curbed anyone in this village."She - "Yes! that is true. We respect each other and we believe that all of us are equally beautiful. But one day when I went to another village, I couldn't resist myself from looking in the mirror. And then I discovered how ugly am I."After hearing this, the monk smiled and told her - " Please meet me tomorrow at the nearby sea bank. I have to give you some rewards for your help."The next day, she went to the sea bank, again in the same black robe. She could easily identify the monk sitting at the bank, facing towards the sea. As she walked near, the monk asked her to sit down beside him. Both of them sat for a moment in silence, just facing towards the sea and watching waves. When she couldn't suppress her inquisitiveness more, she asked him -"Why did you call me here?"Without answering her question, he asked her - "How do you define beauty?"She answered - "Something that soothes our eyes. Something that looks attractive and can grab our attention.""Okay! Could you see the waves in the sea?"She thought what rubbish is he talking, the waves are quite obvious in the sea.She answered - "Yes"Monk - "What all kinds of waves are there in the sea?"She - "Different kinds with different forms, some are small and some are big. some big waves are eating up the small waves to become bigger."Monk - "Aren't these beautiful waves soothing your eyes?"She - "Yes true! It is very calm and it looks beautiful. Even the sound of waves is soothing to my ears."Monk - "Yeah you are right. But what happens on the day of high tides?"She - "Waves become stronger and scary. Some time they flood the nearby area of our village."Monk - "Ohh! that is a bit scary and not good."She - "Not exactly bad. These waves carry good fertile soil which they leave for us."Monk -"Okays that's good! Now tell me what are these waves made up of?"She - "Water"Monk - "True. Waves are just patterns made up of water. These patterns keep on changing with time. Sometimes they are beautiful and sometimes they are scary. Change is the eternal law of nature, the law of impermanence. This law is applicable to our life too. Our body, our senses, everything keeps on changing with time. And this change in itself is their beauty. You cannot define something beautiful which keeps on changing or which is not permanent. I believe that the water is beautiful and hence its all formation or patterns including big and small waves are actually beautiful. You have to broaden your vision before classifying anything on the basis of their temporary appearance. Beauty is the quality that remains forever like the beauty of water. If you keep on looking yourself every single day then you will identify the change in your appearance and with time you will fall in love with this change. Appearance varies with time but there are certain qualities which remain with us forever and those are the qualities which define the beauty of each one of us. Observe yourself and you will find out how blessed and beautiful you are. Accept it, you are the most beautiful and unique person."The monk left and she sat there as it is. This huge revelation was hard to handle and she got completely numb. And the story ends...I believe its true! each one of us is equally beautiful and unique. And this year promise me, that you will celebrate your uniqueness and beauty.

Being honest, I crave for the dark chocolates but you feel shilly-shally when you are not familiar with the one who is sitting next to you. I was too engrossed in the song that I didn't even notice her. I took a small amount of chocolate from hers and thanked for the same. She smiled back and said its okay.
Be Flow - In Gita Verse 2.70 A person who is not disturbed by the incessant flow of desires – that enter like rivers into the ocean, which is ever being filled but is always still – can alone achieve peace, and not the man who strives to satisfy such desires.Krishna now explains where and how we need to be aware. River is going towards ocean, meet ocean, but never get distracted by any hurdles. Same for Human Being, as only human being in this existences has possibility to grow in consciousness. For growing in the consciousness one thing plays a very important key role is self-awareness. Self-awareness for present moment, without getting affected by past or future. All our desires are of the future. We are like river going to merge into ocean but totally aware of this moments hurdle of all our desires.Desire always goes ahead of you. Desire is always in the future. Desire is a hope. Desire cannot be fulfilled because its very nature is to remain unfulfilled and projected in the future. It is always on the horizon. In the modern time challenges how to remain undisturbed with our desire:A desire arises: with the desire, the feeling that I AM arises. A thought arises: with the thought, the feeling that I AM arises. Look for it in your own experience. Before desire and before knowing, there is no ego.Sit silently. Look within. A thought arises: you get identified with the thought. A desire arises: you get identified with the desire. In the identification you become the ego. Then think: there is no desire and there is no knowledge and no thought – you cannot get identified with anything. The ego cannot arise.Buddha used this technique and he said to his disciples not to do anything else but just one thing: when a thought arises, note it down. Buddha used to say that when a thought arises, note down that a thought is arising. Just inside, note it: now a thought is arising, now a thought has arises, now a thought is disappearing. Just remember that now the thought is arising, now the thought has arisen, now the thought is disappearing, so that you don’t get identified with it.It is very beautiful and very simple. A desire arises. You are walking on the road; a beautiful car passes by. You look at it – and you have not even looked and the desire to possess it arises. Do it. In the beginning just verbalize; just say slowly, ‘I have seen a car. It is beautiful. Now a desire has arisen to possess it. Just verbalize. In the beginning it is good; if you can say it loudly, it is very good. Say loudly, ‘I am just noting that a car has passed, the mind has said it is beautiful, and now desire has arisen and I must possess this car.’ Verbalize everything, speak loudly to yourself and immediately you will feel that you are different from it. Note it.When you have become efficient in noting, there is no need to say it loudly. Just inside, note that a desire has arisen. A beautiful woman passes; the desire has come in. Just note it – as if you are not concerned, you are just noting the fact that is happening – and then suddenly you will be out of it.Buddha says, ‘Note down whatsoever happens. Just go on noting, and when it disappears, again note that now that desire has disappeared, and you will feel a distance from the desire, from the thought.’Consider. Dissolve in the beauty. And if you can consider that a desire has arisen and a desire has gone and you have remained in the gap and the desire has not disturbed you…. It came, it went. It was there, and it is now not there, and you have remained unperturbed, you have remained as you were before it. There has been no change in you. It came and it passed like a shadow. It has not touched you; you remain unscarred.Consider this movement of desire and movement of thought but no movement in you. Consider and dissolve in the beauty. And that interval is beautiful. Dissolve in that interval. Fall in the gap and be the gap. It is the deepest experience of beauty. And not only of beauty, but of good and of truth also. In the gap you are.The whole emphasis has to go from the filled spaces to the unfilled spaces. You are reading a book. There are words, there are sentences, but between the words there are gaps, between the sentences there are gaps. In those gaps you are. The whiteness of the paper you are, and the black dots are just clouds of thought and desire moving on you. Change the emphasis, change the gestalt. Don’t look at the black dots. Look at the white. In your inner being, look at the gaps. Be indifferent to the filled spaces, the occupied spaces. Be interested in the gaps, the intervals. Through those intervals you can dissolve into the ultimate beauty.Krishna says that when you irrespective of all the desire can become indifferent to desire and can fill up spaces, be interested in the gapes then you will be silent, in peace.
Too curious flowerwatching us pass, met death . . .Our hungry donkeyLike flower when our being blooms, we becomes watcher, ego dies and we live in this world without losing individuality.Individuality means your uniqueness — not compared with anybody else. Your incomparable uniqueness: that is individuality. Individuality is beautiful; that's how God has made you — as an individual.Ego is comparison. Ego is your invention. God has not given you any ego; he has certainly given you an individuality.Ego is comparison: you think yourself more intelligent than the other, you think yourself more superior than the other — or inferior. You think yourself more beautiful than the other. Then you are bringing ego in: the moment you compare yourself with somebody, the conclusion that comes out of the comparison is ego.If you stop comparing then you are there — tremendously beautiful and unique. All superiority or inferiority, all anxiety of where I am, where I stand, who is above me and who is below me, are ego problems. The superior person suffers, the inferior suffers; both suffer — because even the superior most cannot have a state where he can be satisfied.Don't compare, there is no need. Comparison is one of the greatest calamities that has fallen on humanity. You are perfect as you are. Love yourself, respect yourself. If you are not going to respect yourself, who is going to respect you. If you are not going to love yourself, who is going to love you? Love yourself, respect yourself — and a person who respects himself never compares. Comparison is a disrespect. To be an egoist is to be very disrespectful towards yourself. To be an individual is perfectly good, but to be egoistic is disrespectful.

Blissful State - In Gita Verse 3.39 Thus the wise living entity’s pure consciousness becomes covered by his eternal enemy in the form of lust, which is never satisfied and which burns like fire.Krishna tells Arjuna that our biggest enemy is our desires. Which cannot be fulfilled. In my Bhagavad Gita Verse 1.12, I wrote that Needs can be fulfilled, but desires or wants cannot be.What is desire? Have you looked into your desiring mind ever? Have you encountered it? Have you tried any meditation on it? What is desire? You desire a certain house; you work for it, you work hard. You destroy your whole life for it – then the house is there. But is fulfillment there? Once the house is there, suddenly you feel very empty – you feel more empty than before, because before there was an occupation to achieve this house. Now it is there: immediately your mind starts looking for something else to get occupied with. Now there are bigger houses; your mind starts thinking of those bigger houses. There are bigger palaces…. You desire a woman and you have achieved your desire, then suddenly your hands are again empty. Again you start desiring some other woman. This is the nature of desire. Desire always goes ahead of you. Desire is always in the future. Desire is a hope. Desire cannot be fulfilled because its very nature is to remain unfulfilled and projected in the future. It is always on the horizon. You can rush, you can run towards the horizon, but you will never reach: wherever you reach you will find the horizon has receded back. And the distance between you and the horizon remains absolutely the same. You have ten thousand rupees, the desire is for twenty thousand rupees; you have twenty thousand rupees, the desire is for forty thousand rupees. The distance is the same; the mathematical proportion is the same.Whatsoever you have, desire always goes ahead of it.What Krishna says come out of the desire, - Buddha created technique for it. It will be simple and practical for us. Rather then trying to understand Krishna’s word let’s have our own experience with Buddha’s technique. Before desire and before knowing, how can I say I am?Buddha used this technique and he said to his disciples not to do anything else but just one thing: when a thought arises, note it down. How can I say I AM?Krishna says once there is no desire, you will find no thoughts or lust regarding life. Through your subjectivity you are connected with the whole, universe, that will use your body to respond in the present moment without expectation of fruits. In your blissful state you will be able to fight this war.
In the middle of the day, I was standing puzzled in the place known as Kasol. I had no idea how this place would be and what I would do alone there. The foreigners definitely were visible in the majority. Hebrew (Israel official language) was used in many restaurants along with English and Hindi.I usually don't eat before the bus travel, so I was hungry and decided to Visit holy Manikaran first (3 km uphill from Kasol). Manikaran has mesmerizing beauty. A grand Gurudwara besides the God Shiva temple on the bank of violent Parvati river. This place is also blessed with a hot spring. In this hot spring, delicious food of the Gurudwara is cooked. The gateway to Gurudwara led to a bridge to cross Parvati River and the hot spot for profile pictures.Right inside the Gurudwara, there is a pond of hot water from spring in which freezing water of Parvati is brought through a pipe and mixed. It is believed that if you take a bath in this pond all your skin disease will vanish. In the vicinity where water is mixed, the water temperature varies from hot to cold. So you can enjoy lukewarm water. I took the bathe and then I headed up to Langar food. This has been my first ever Gurudwara visit. I would skip the traditional beauty of Gurudwara. I had delicious food there. Most people miss they also serve sweet (Halwa) in form of Prasad upstairs. Never miss that. You can book your room in Gurudwara if you want to stay there. It's free. Free food and free stay make many foreigners crazy. Next, I visited the temple. Clicked some pictures. Here was a thing that no-one told me before. Manikaran is beautiful, but you can hardly spend 3-4 hours only not the entire stay. So I chose to go Kasol again. There are buses every 10 minutes, but I chose to hitchhike. Those two guys were high on weed like most people there. They asked me to take a puff.I said I don't drink and smoke. They said that there is nothing here for you then. They told me from here on, every place is Kasol, where you want to go?I was confused, this situation was never written on any blog. They dropped me at the market.I walked through the market, there was nothing new in that place. There were just ordinary hill station shops and few hotels. I felt cheated by the place and decided to go back.At the bus station while I was waiting for the bus. Some locals suggested me to go to Tosh or to Kheerganga trek. Since I had a healing leg and a luggage, so I was avoiding the difficult long trek. Then this guy appeared, he told me that he has a cafe on the top of Sheela village. It's an easy trek, and he showed me some pictures too.It was a risky choice this guy could be anything. But going back was not the best option either, so I said yes.The bus stopped near a small shop named Naina cafe. It was 4 pm already. As long as the Sun is visible mountains are mesmerizing, beautiful but once it sets they become scary. I wanted to make sure before it happened, I should be in a room. Just beside this cafe, the trek started it lasted around 1 hour going through some easy and rough terrain. Entire time the sound of Parvati River was just adding magic to the journey.I don't even remember when it was the last time when I witnessed the pattern of leaves.Or I danced to the music of water or screamed my heart out, or I wasonly physically exhausted. Facing the fear of death every moment, I only felt what it meant to be alive. It was the first time when I saw something beautiful and did not capture it because I knew no camera can capture what I was feeling while trekking. That's how beautiful little Sheela village trek was.It would be unfair to travellers if I try explain what I felt in words. It was in the true sense, the first night I ever spent in nature. Itwas magical from the Sunrise to the Sunset. It turned out that I was the first customer for that new homestay and their place was in construction. I chipped in my bit. There were a few guys who have left their jobs from metro cities and intended to live forever in this place. Obviously, they all were shouting 'Bum Bhole'. Later that turned out to be a problem that they all were so high when they slept, it was hard to wake them up. I and one more guy had to check out, but there was no one to receive payment. We called on their phone too. Even we left a message that we would pay online in whatever means they would say when they will wake up. Later, around after an hour when we were walking through the long route just to spend more time on this, they came to us and misbehaved. That 5 km walk from that place to last bus stop point, is the best part of my entire journey. Most people who go even further up during camping generally take a taxi to come back. That walk around the Sheela Village is beyond words, I came across places where adventure was the only mean to go ahead. It was scary in between when we realized we two guys were all alone walking through that place and it started to rain too but luckily it stopped.Walking through that unusual route I realized how beautiful life could be, how much we can do in a day. In our usual life we don’t even realize its value. Every day, every place is beautiful as long as you are not stuck there.

Usually, I am the kind of person who is very much attached to his/her personalized room and don't feel comfortable in any other setup. And that is the reason why I avoid trips which requires me to stay in hotels or Airbnb. But, recently I discovered something new about me. In fact, just two weeks back, I, with my friends decided to visit Okinawa (a prefecture in Japan). Okinawa is considered as one of the blue zones in the world. We booked our flights, reserved resorts, packed some of our vegetarian food (some times it's difficult to get vegetarian food in Japan especially if you are not in Tokyo) and started our journey. As per the government norms, Wednesday is considered as no overtime day in Japan so that day, you get the privilege of leaving the office early. So we started our journey on Wednesday evening. Our itinerary was such that we could get enough time to relax instead of just touching every single tourist places. Generally, it is recommended to have a driving license and rent a car to roam around in Okinawa. But since none of us was having an international driving license so we prepared an itinerary to visit those places which can be reached by bus or ship. The best part of traveling in Japan is that you can rely on Google Maps. Okinawa is surrounded by ocean and located in the south, so the place is a bit humid and hot compared to Tokyo (you don't need to wear shrugs or jackets during the spring season).Day 1And the very first day itself weather wanted us to roam in blue and yellow raincoats as it was a kind of rainy day with a thunderstorm (very common in Japan). After getting ready and wearing the nice dress we had to put on raincoats...it was nature's order we can't help it.Okinawa world (Theme park)The moment I stepped into the cave, I was wonderstruck by the beauty of nature and effort of Japanese sculptors who would have carved down that cave. It recalled me of class 6th geography when we had studied about calcium deposits referred to as stalactites and stalagmites. At that time, I used to think that whether in my life will I be able to see these in real or not? And see, it happened! The cave was quite long and it was conveniently designed with proper lightings and pathways so that people can roam around and enjoy the beautiful formations. You can watch some hot springs also running on one side of the cave. I felt like I am in a palace which has been specially designed for tourism but no, all these structures were formed naturally. Nature is beyond our imagination. Just for your information, it takes 3 years for a stalactite to grow by 1 mm. Also, if you are a person who likes beer then you are most welcome in Okinawa to have a sip of "Habu" snake sake (beer) :P Snake sake as omiyage (souvenir)!Day 2We started from Naha in the early morning so as to reach Motobu before noon.Emerald Beach (in Motobu)Forenoon and the beautiful beach sounds an amazing combination no?! I don't have any word to explain the beauty of white sand and blue seawater, you can see it by yourself.Meeting the Japanese standard of cleanliness, the beach was extremely clean and beautiful with the spread of white sand underneath the blue seawater, shining like the bed of emerald in the sunlight. I felt that I could spend my days and nights just sitting beside the sea, enjoying the view and listening to the sound of waves hitting the shore (only if I get paid for doing so :P).Churaumi AquariumThis aquarium is considered to have the world's second-largest water tank. This was my second visit to any aquarium, so for me, it was amazing to see small colorful fishes, coral reefs and big fish like a whale shark. You can see a wide variety of aquatic animals here or in fact, you will discover some new aquatic animals which may not be known to you till the date..that is what happened with us.Also, there are some open areas where you can touch small fishes like starfish. You can feel the hard stone-like stiff body of starfish. And, if you are at the correct time then you may get an opportunity to watch the feeding show. Basically, you can see how they feed 55000 kg whale shark by the filter-feeding method. There were many shows but because of time constraints, we couldn't cover up all the shows. The last thing to watch that day was the Dolphin show. I feel that Dolphins are not just fish but they are the sweetest and cheerful creature among aquatic animals. If you are feeling tired or low just get a ticket to the nearby aquarium and watch the dancing Dolphins. Dolphins are like drama queen only, they will definitely cheer you up and seeing their dance and act, you will definitely burst into laughter.Day 3We had kept this day especially to cover up some of the famous beaches which were on the way from Motobu to Naha. Though because of the rain and thunderstorm, we skipped a few and preferred to stay inside the bus.Cape ManzanoAgain, the clean dark blue water hitting the rocks to carve out a beautiful structure. Till that day, I had seen blue water only in painted sceneries, which used to have no relation with real existence. The rock formation near the beach was looking like the head of an elephant. People over there were busy taking photos and selfies while I felt completely lost in paying gratitude to the Creator for such an amazing beautiful creation. I wanted to absorb everything ... the air ... the scenic beauty with blue water, greeneries and rocks all around ... and the mystic sound of waves ...everything was so pacifying to my soul. At that moment, I wanted to capture all those feelings, senses and emotions in my memory forever. After Cape Manzano, we roam around a few other beaches before taking our final bus to Naha. Thus the closing evening of the trip passed away. We reached Naha airport and took our flight back to Tokyo. Once again continuing life in between skyscrapers. My one-liner for Okinawa - Amazingly beautiful place to relax in the lap of nature! My learning - It is a foolish idea to judge something without exploring it because you never know what transformation can happen next. I discovered that I had a wrong perception about myself and I love long-duration trips. These trips give you the opportunity to create more memories to cherish upon and to daydream sitting in front of your computer at the office desk.Message - Steal a few days from your busy schedule, pack your bags and start your journey to explore yourself.

I think almost every normal person of this beautiful planet love gift. Gift is not only a word it is a feeling, feelings of happiness, excitement and specialness. The word gift enhances the feeling of excitement and happiness in our heart. Well I'll be not wrong if I say 'Barter System' still exists in the form of gifts. Some people love to gift others and some love to accept the later. New Year, Valentine's Day, Anniversary, Festivals, Birthdays, every special occasion are incomplete and prosaic without gifts. But almost everyone undergo a phase of chaos and confusion in their mind before gifting something to their loved ones. A book, a flower, a watch, a beautiful black suit or a gorgeous ring embedded with diamond which one is the best gift. Some says time is the best gift, for someone a letter or a hand crafted product is more adorable while for others materialistic gifts are the best one.Well ever wondered gifting a'Life' to someone! Is there any other gift greater than Life?I guess no.But is it possible to gift life to someone practically?Yes, it is possible.Once in a year GIFT A PLANT to your loved ones. By doing this you are not only making someone special but also saving the MANKIND.

Choose - In Gita Verse 2.36 Your enemies will describe you in many unkind words and scorn your ability. What could be more painful for you?Krishna says if you decide to drop war and run away from the war - it only means that you are inviting disrespect for yourself. Your enemies will get a chance to enjoy the victory and with unkind words scorn your ability. It will be very painful. History is always written by winners and never by looser. So down the centuries the whole humanity will know you as a coward and fearful instead of your courage and sharp intelligence. We are the creators of our own destiny. Here if Arjuna remains unconscious irrespective of Krishna ‘s total effort then he will be disrespected for centuries. If he wakes up in his self-consciousness then he will be honored for centuries for his Assignment of Universe, Fighting Without Enmity. How we act makes lot of difference. Our this moments act will create our future. There is an intricate relationship between an act and the end result. We always want to have a perfect result for whatever we do, without losing ourselves in the act. Is such an act possible? To understand the fine difference, it is important to examine ‘perfection’ and ‘totality’. Although for many people, perfection is the ultimate goal, it is nothing less than illusion or myth; something which is nonexistent. We are attracted by the very idea of perfection, not realising that it is like a disease which is dangerous and destructive. If not for our obsession with perfection, our action could open the door to a beautiful spiritual journey.Whatever you do, just pour your heart in it, do it with totality. Karma is enjoyable if the heart is involved in it. Then there is no karma and kerta; both melt and become one. That is totality. Perfection is a myth, while totality is reality.Perfection is a goal somewhere in the future while totality is an experience this very moment, in which your act is transformed into meditation and a beautiful prayer descends in your heart. In fact, there is no future reference or goal for totality; only a routine life style albeit soaked in spiritual fragrance. If you do any work or any act with your whole heart, then you are total, then you are walking on the same path which Kabir and Ravidas chose. The whole idea is to ‘be total’ in everything that you are doing. It doesn’t matter what you do, whether you are making clothes like Kabir or shoes like Ravidas, or cooking food or working on a new design for most advanced spacecraft, or cleaning the floor. The job is immaterial. The focus is that doing is with totality, which is the only way to transform the act into meditation and to transform the doing into a beautiful prayer.Krishna is telling Arjuna it is up to you and choose to be conscious or unconscious towards yourself. If you will be unconscious then also it’s your responsibility for the result and if you are conscious then too it is your responsibility towards the result. Right now you have a choice either to act from consciousness or unconscious once you take the step then you lose your freedom. In this moment you are free to choose. When Awareness Comes and the Light Comes, then there Is Freedom - There are three types of freedom:The first type of freedom at least pretends that there is some goal. Even the politician says, ‘We are fighting to be free – from this kind of society, this kind of structure, this kind of politics. We are fighting to be free from this society just to create another society. We are fighting for some goal, some value, some utopia, some ideology.’ Even he has to pretend that, because the negative cannot exist alone; at least the positive has to be talked about. So communism talks about a classless society, utopia, where everything will be beautiful, where paradise will have descended on the earth. It will take infinity, but that goal has to be given. Otherwise people will not fight for a negative freedom. So the negative implies the positive; and vice versa, the positive implies the negative. When you want to become a painter and your parents are not agreeing and your society thinks it is foolish, you have to fight with them. So freedom for will have something to do with freedom from; they both are together. This is the second type of freedom. The real freedom is the third kind, the transcendental freedom. What is that? It is neither from nor for; it is simply freedom. It is just freedom. That is moksha: just freedom. Neither against anybody – it is not a reaction; nor to create some future – there is no goal. One simply enjoys being oneself, for its own sake; it is an end unto itself. And that freedom is love, and that freedom is God. That freedom is nirvana, that freedom is truth. In that freedom you exist in God, God exists in you. Then nothing wrong can ever happen through you. Then your life is virtue. Then your very breathing is meditation. Then you walk and it is poetry. Then you sit silently and it is dance. Then you are a blessing to the world. You are blessed.Krishna is talking about the third type of freedom. Freedom which comes from awareness and light. In that you become capable of liberating yourself and others also. As Arjuna is in the war Krishna is saying that not only will you be liberated but others also who will be killed by you.
Many, many years ago, a sage was meditating on a Himalayan peak. Majestic dales and solitary vales sprawled around were all aglow with the divine streak.Though the birds chirped songs, and rain poured down in throngs, he was unmovable, lost in a deep trance. In winters, icy cold storms blew and the snow around and over him was all aglow with its chilling primitiveness. His soul but was safe somewhere in the cosy warmth of transcendental realisation. In autumn, wind-fallen leaves sailed down with slumberous tumble, and ripe fruits fell proudly, adventurously for a juicy, pleasant crumble. He still was somewhere else when the nature opened these marvellous jewels from her treasure trove. In spring, wild flowers fully unfurled their fragrance and smile, and honey-bees engaged in dawn to dusk toil. He but was unmoved and transported into a state where the ecstasies of natural bounties don’t mean anything anymore.Summer’s warm days sprayed desultory, eerie uneasiness around, and cool nights proudly embraced this son with his soul heaven-bound. Still it didn’t matter. He was undisturbed and was silently moving on his meditative path.Once it was a full moon autumn night. A fairy was flying amid milky delight. A perfect calmness pervaded the solitary vales. Everything was asleep, bathed in the softest fluffy shades of white. The fairy flew low over the peaks glowing under the moonlight. The seer was lost in his trance in front of his cave, the beauty of nature sprawled around meaningless to him.She saw him and hovered around the sanctimonious air of his sagehood. A small, harmless mischief rustled in her young, innocent heart. She circled in the air above him. Her laughter touched the milky sea around and created soft ripples. Her unbelievably soft dress rustled in the gentle breeze born of her circles. It but did not have any effect on him. He was engrossed too deep in the cosmic balance beyond the sensory contradictions and dualities. The more she looked, the more was the urge in her to bring him back to the beauty of this world, to fetch him from the deep ocean where his soul had dived. His exquisitely masculine physique and persona created tempted sparks on her magic stick. She tried all juicily leering feminine tricks. But her desire-lorn swirls in the air failed to move him even a bit. Helplessly she descended onto the earth. There were almost tears of helplessness in her beautiful eyes. She sat in front of him with those rose-red lips pursed in a heart-breaking frown. Her marvellous eyes were lost in his handsome, bearded, well sculpted face. It was mesmerizing. There was not a single worldly trace on his face. She herself was caught in a trance and lost the sense of time and the laws of the fairyland. The night sped away as if in a jiffy. The day rose. The sun arrived with full earthly delight. There was terror in her eyes. The hope to return to her realm died. She had broken the law of her land by not returning on the same night after the brief terrestrial sojourn. The realisation crashed against her soft self like a thunderbolt. Her utmost sensuous bare shoulders heaved under the tremors of this unpardonable fault. A cry involuntarily tore through her slender throat. And then it was a still bigger violation. His serenely flowing meditative phrase met this sinful, full-stopping dot. His communion with the divinity was broken. His long-closed eyes opened. The world of his penance lay scattered. His fiercely burning eyes stared at the flower in sobs and sighs. Her large, flooded eyes pleaded for mercy. But the fire in his unforgiving eyes was unrelenting and cursing. The fabric of his serenity was torn. The sage thundered, “You proud, vain woman of egoistic beauty, become an ugly bush of thorns!”Mowed down by the spell of his cursing energy, an ugly bush stood in place of that angelic beauty. All shaken and ravaged, he left the place. A thorny branch, meanwhile, got entangled in his loin cloth, as if for meek, pleading forgiveness and brace. He but scornfully jerked it apart and headed to some other place for a new start.Time then took to its heels on swift horses. The seasons changed. The spring’s colourful patterns were rearranged. The summer’s warm kisses melted the snows. The autumn’s harvest uncomplainingly fell to the air’s chiding blows. The winter’s snowy blanket covered the peaks. And rains lashed down in stormy freaks. This pleasant wavering of nature, however, couldn’t shake the sage from the meditative maze high there in the hills. Faraway down the hills, the accursed bush was shrouded in thorny haze. It struggled to sprout fruits and flowers. Even cursing has a testing time against soft, innocent glow of purity. How can something having a fairy core remain ugly and thorny for too long? Her pure soul entombed in that thorny shrine prayed for penance. And see, a flower of her fruits sprouts forth!A flower blossomed among the thorns. So beautiful! It lit up with life among the thorns and deadly pale dark brown branches. It appeared juxtaposed by a miracle, like it had dropped from the heaven and got stuck there. It was the day when the enlightened sage arrived from the north. Contented with his cosmic realisation, he came down the beautiful dale. As he passed the bush, his purified soul sensed the thorny shrub’s plaintive wail. His feet disobeyed him and he couldn’t move. The lone flower among the thorns fell at his feet in holy-most obeisance and greet. He picked it up and was lost in its fragrance. The thorn was ugly. The flower so beautiful and fragrant! What contradiction! Flowery heaven and thorny hell together! The latter born of his cursing condemnation; the flower born of the beauty behind the thorny bars. It was a jolting earthly realisation. Hadn’t he broken the beautifully set laws?Torrents of repentance cut through him. He bid penance at the altar for a long time. His repenting self set around a reformative shrine. His soul drenched in painful chime. He braced the thorns with the love and affection purest of the pure. It gave him bleeding fingers so many times. He caressed and cared for it like it was the beautiful most flowery shrub. He was practicing his penance now, of love, of surrender, of repentance. What else can be bigger than these? When his soul had been salvaged of the sin, nobody could bet against her for a win. There she blossomed in front of him. Beauty, charm and grace filled to the brim. Her smile was forgetting and forgiving. It was the beacon of her penance, of love, of beauty. Inside the stony walls of his heart, a new luminosity was now thriving. The sage embraced her. She, who had been separated from her loved ones, got the earthling she had fallen for. Happiness, bliss and calm opened a new door to the start of a fresh cycle of life, love and humanity. All but the sage had been extinguished by the cataclysm. The lone and forlorn survivor, he had been striking at the doors of heaven with his endless questions. Now there was no more pursuit. The endless had manifested itself in a small sip of love. Now they lived as a man and a woman. New hopes, aspirations and offspring began to thrive. Thus were sown the seeds of another spell and cycle of life, of creation. Their unchecked love in those flowery vales left countless exotic trails. Gurgling brooks gave company to her primordially sensuous laughter. His instinct’s procreating sprouts mingled with the mirthful waters of her receptiveness.
Be Total - In Gita Verse 1.46 Sañjaya said: Arjuna, having thus spoken on the battlefield, cast aside his bow and arrows and sat down on the chariot, his mind overwhelmed with grief.Sanjaya told Dhritarashtra, Arjuna by saying all regarding his unconsciousness, keeping aside his bow and arrow sat in his chariot with fully grief.Persons like Arjuna when knowing that right now he is totally unconsciousness as part of army and also as an individual who is fighting this war will be representing universe, It's good to keep aside the weapon and come back to consciousness rather than to start the war in unconsciousness. His grief was mentioned as overwhelmed, means, total, overflowing. When we are total in anything, it allows us to drop. Like fruits when they are ripped they drop on their own. Similarly when we are total, even our unconsciousness will drop. The Bhagavad Gita says that karma is enjoyable if the heart is involved in it. Then there is no karma and kerta; both melt and become one. That is totality. Perfection is myth, while totality is reality.Perfection is a goal somewhere in the future while totality is an experience this very moment, in which your act is transformed into meditation and a beautiful prayer descends in your heart. The focus is that doing is with totality, which is the only way to transform the act into meditation and to transform the doing into a beautiful prayer. To be total in your work is a totally different thing. To be total in your work is not addiction, it is a kind of meditation. When you are totally in your work, your work has a possibility of perfection, you will have a joy arising out of a perfect work.If you can be perfect and total in work, you can be total in no-work — just sitting silently, totally silent. You know how to be total. You can close your eyes and you can be totally in. You know the secret of being total. So to be total in work is helpful in meditation. The workaholic cannot meditate, he cannot sit silently even for a few minutes. He will fidget, he will change his position, he will do something or other — look into this pocket or that pocket, and he knows that there is nothing in those pockets. He will take out his glasses, clean them, put them away, and he knows they are clean.Arjuna practiced totality throughout his life. So in this moment of unconsciousness he was total and realised that it's better to put my arms aside and regain my consciousness before the start of the war.
Divine Consciousness - In Gita Verse 2.53 When your mind is no longer disturbed by the flowery language of the Vedas, and when it remains fixed in the trance of self-realization, then you will have attained the divine consciousness.Krishna tells Arjuna once you are indifferent to all the pain and no longer disturbed by pain, the first thing is you have realized the Veda but not stuck to it’s language. You have gained courage to be with yourself and allowing the existence to take possession of you. Here you are self-realized. You are no longer a separate entity in the universe but part of its whole play of the universe. You are ready to change, you are ready to die, you are ready to take birth, you are ready to play your role. You have surrendered to Universe. By surrendering to the universe you transcend self-realization to divine consciousness, Enlightenment.Enlightenment is a simple realization that everything is as it should be.That is the definition of enlightenment: everything is as it should be, everything is utterly perfect as it is. That feeling...and you are suddenly at home. Nothing is being missed. You are part, an organic part of this tremendous, beautiful whole. You are relaxed in it, surrendered in it. You don't exist separately – all separation has disappeared.A great rejoicing happens, because with the ego disappearing there is no worry left, with the ego disappearing there is no anguish left, with the ego disappearing there is no possibility of death any more. This is what enlightenment is. It is the understanding that all is good, that all is beautiful – and it is beautiful as it is. Everything is in tremendous harmony, in accord.Enlightenment simply means an experience of your consciousness unclouded by thoughts, emotions, sentiments. When the consciousness is totally empty, there is something like an explosion, an atomic explosion. Your whole insight becomes full of a light which has no source and no cause. And once it has happened, it remains. It never leaves you for a single moment; even when you are asleep, that light is inside. And after that moment you can see things in a totally different way. After that experience, there is no question in you.Enlightenment means being fully conscious, aware. Ordinarily we are not conscious and not aware. When one is enlightened one is conscious, but one is not conscious of consciousness. One is perfectly conscious, but there is no object in it. One is simply conscious, as if a light goes on enlightening the emptiness around it. There is no object, there is nothing the light can fall upon. It is pure consciousness. The object has disappeared; your subject has flowered into totality. Now there is no object — and hence, there can be no subject. The object and subject both have disappeared. You are simply conscious. Not conscious of anything, just conscious. You are consciousness….…He is not conscious about enlightenment; he is simply conscious. He lives in consciousness, he sleeps in consciousness, he moves in consciousness. He lives, he dies in consciousness. Consciousness becomes an eternal source in him, a non flickering flame, a non wavering state of being. It is not an attribute, it is not accidental; it cannot be taken away. His whole being is conscious. What is enlightenment? Coming to understand, coming to realize that you are not the body. You are the light within; not the lamp, but the flame. You are neither body nor mind. Mind belongs to the body; mind is not beyond body, it is part of the body - most subtle, most refined, but it is part of the body. Mind is also atomic, as body is atomic. You are neither the body nor the mind - then you come to know who you are. And to know who you are is enlightenment…. Enlightened means you have realized who you are.Once Arjuna gains divine consciousness then there is no question of suffering, pain, trauma. He will be just conscious and in that he will allow the whole war to happen as if it is happening in a movie. Where the warriors are just part of the war without any pain, identification, meaning, expectations, desire to win or lose. He will just act his part in the war as totally indifferent.
Godliness - In Gita Verse 4.23 The work of a man who is unattached to the modes of material nature and who is fully situated in transcendental knowledge merges entirely into transcendence.Krishna reminds us that human being we need to only focus on the growing in consciousness. Without any judgement and comparison - comparison with others and also with us - we need to take all our action which can grow in consciousness. Universe has made everything in the existence different and unique. Universe wants human being to respond the present moment in his uniqueness. Which is new, fresh. If we respond from our uniqueness we transcend material nature to our godliness.Being unique is everybody’s nature; being special is relative. When you start feeling that you are special you are comparing yourself with somebody. Special is in comparison to somebody; unique, there is no comparison. Unique means you are alone as you are – how can you be compared? You cannot compare a car with an elephant. They are so different, how can you compare them? Each individual is so different from any other individual that there is no possibility of comparison.Uniqueness is everybody’s nature, but specialness is comparative. Uniqueness is religious, specialness is political. When you claim that you are special you are claiming that you are higher, superior to others; that others are lower, inferior to you. You bring the other in when you use the word special and this is violent. To compare yourself with somebody in any way is violent because he is he and you are you, and you are both so different. The very idea of comparing is stupid.Through comparison misery arises: either you feel you are inferior, then there is misery, or you start feeling you are superior, then too there is misery. If you feel superior, ego arises – and ego hurts. If you feel inferior, ego is wounded – and those wounds hurt. You may feel superior to one person but what about others? You may one day or other come across somebody to whom you feel inferior. With one person you may feel intelligent, with another you may look like a pygmy. With one you may feel beautiful, with another you may start feeling ugly. When you carry the idea of comparison you are carrying seeds of illness which will create misery and nothing else. Comparison creates hell. Heaven is an inner space where you live an uncompared life. You simply live yourself; it is your life, you are you. Just think of the beauty of it, the tremendous purity of it. You are simply you. Then you are beautiful. Are you ugly? Are you intelligent, or unintelligent? If you are simply you, and there is no comparison, how can you say you are this or that? Then both disappear. There arises neti-neti, neither this nor that. Then you are simply there.Just think: the whole world disappears and you alone are left. God takes away the whole world and only you are left, nobody else. Then what will you be – strong, weak, intelligent, unintelligent, beautiful, ugly? Then who will you be? All comparisons will disappear, you will simply be yourself. That is the way to be.Right now, be that! Don’t create unnecessary misery for yourself and for others. Start living your unique life.Uniqueness is everybody’s nature. With the feeling of being special ambition enters, comparison enters, jealousy enters, conflict enters. You become political. Then you start pulling others down because you have to be superior. Then you start fighting, struggling, and then you start using all sorts of means. You have to prove and perform and your whole life is wasted in this nonsense.Krishna is saying that once you be with yourself, you will know your uniqueness, from that uniqueness any action will be able to transcend our material nature to godliness. As when you act from your uniqueness not only you will act without comparison but also without any desire for achievement. You will find certain joy of doing your act. It has got nothing to do with your achievements. You will be overflowing with joy, that is your Godliness.
