Best Yoga Practices To Prepare Your Body For Trekking
 13 May 2019

The article talks about some of the best Yoga exercises that are good for preparing the body for trekking.Trekking and Yoga are related in many ways. Both are highly fascinating to practice, filled with tons of beautiful memories. Rejuvenation of the mind, body, and soul is a common element of Yoga and trekking. All over the world, many trekkers enjoy the delight of the ancient science to boost their chance of succeeding on the trekking trails. Whether you are planning a trekking tour in Nepal or aspiring for a journey in the Alps, Yoga is the best way, to begin with. Even embracing Yoga during the tour can be extremely enjoying.Let’s talk about some of the most effective Yoga poses that help you prepare the body and mind for trekking.Ardha-UtkatasanaLet’s begin with the advanced version of Chair Pose. Ardha-Utkatasana is one of the finest ways to boost the strength of your legs and thighs muscles. Also known as the Standing Figure Four, the asana is practiced on one leg. While one foot is perfectly placed on the ground, the other leg finds itself on the knee. Although bending down in this position needs a lot of effort, it can be easily possible with regular practice. Balance is the key in both - the practice of Ardha-Utkatasana and Trekking.NatarajasanaThe vibrancy of Natarajasana can be understood by the fact that it is the cosmic dance form of Lord Shiva. Being a perfect practitioner of this asana means you are able to perform all kinds of physical activities. During the one-legged asana, the left toe is held by the left hand in the air while the right arm extends parallel to the ground. You should repeat the practice on the other side to complete the exercise. The practice tones almost all body parts and helps the body enjoy tremendous stability.ChakrasanaWelcome flexibility in your life to succeed as a trekker of the utmost level. Chakrasana is all about crossing the limits of the body and applying it to make a person internally strong. The whole body is in a circle-like position with the palms and toes balancing the body. The abdomen remains at the top during the asana. The asana is one of the finest ways to boost the flow of blood throughout the body. It also tones almost all muscles and bones of the body in the process.BakasanaBakasana is known as Crow pose, thanks to its imitation as a crow. The pair of palms holds the body weight while the body recoils in the air. Place your knees on the arms while making sure the buttocks are at the top. The exercise gives a lot of confidence to the practitioner, since it is not an easy task to hold the body on the palms. That mixture of power, confidence, and audacity can be the most important thing to have while trekking.Prasarita PadottanasanaPlace your feet wide apart (approx 2-3 ft) to indulge in a beautiful physical exercise that every avid trekker and hiker should practice. Bend in the forward direction to place the head on the mat. Make sure the knees don't bend in the process. Put your palms on the mat on either side of the head. It is an extremely amazing asana for getting prepared for a difficult level trek like Everest Base Camp Trek and GR 20.PadmasanaAt the end of a physical task, you need to relax. You want a moment or two of quietude in life to calm yourself down. Padmasana is probably the most astonishing way to relax and pacify your mind. The reason that makes Lotus Pose holds the upper hand over other restful exercises is that it comes with the additional benefit of stretching various body muscles. Just by sitting in Padmasana, one can feel complete silence as well as spinal strengthening. Chanting a few mantras helps you attain the state of soulfulness.

MOST COMMON YOGA INJURIES AND HOW TO AVOID THEM
 21 August 2019

Yoga injuries happen. Especially if you’re new to the practice, if you haven’t taken the time to properly warm up, or sometimes if you’re just unlucky. Today we’re discussing how to avoid yoga injuries, in particular the common yoga injuries – whether you’re a practitioner or a teacher – and what steps you can take to help prevent injuries from your yoga class.Wrist Injuries: In yoga, we spend a lot of time in postures that put stress on the wrists, e.g. Downward Facing Dog. It’s not uncommon for a wrist injury to occur. The best way to avoid this yoga injury is to ensure your wrists are properly warmed up both before and as you practice: spend some time gently rolling and stretching your wrists out before class starts. If you’re a teacher, make sure you guide students through a sufficient wrist warm up to avoid injury. Another way to help prevent a wrist injury is to make sure you spread your fingers wide and really press all ten fingers into the ground as you take a posture like Downward Facing Dog, which will help build strength around the joint and thus help prevent injury from your yoga class.Neck Injuries: These yoga injuries tend to happen when a practitioner hasn’t built the appropriate strength or flexibility and attempts an advance posture like headstand. As teachers, it is important to remind students how to prevent injuries in yoga, and one piece of advice is to tell your class to listen to their bodies and to not attempt a posture they don’t feel ready for. Yoga is a great tool to cultivate self-awareness – only you know what’s right for you and your body – so make sure you’re listening and if you don’t feel warm enough or prepared enough to attempt a posture, then don’t.Lower Back: This yoga injury is usually caused by repetition and a lack of body awareness which results in bad form. We spend a lot of time in a forward fold in yoga, so to avoid lower back injuries in a yoga class, make sure you (as the teacher) are providing good cues and modifications for your students and that you (as the student) are listening to the cues and not rounding in the lower back. In forward folds, a simple tool to avoid injury can be to bend your knees to take some of the pressure off the lower back, and focus on leading with the chest to ensure you fold forward with a flat back and proper form.Hamstrings: Limited flexibility in the hamstrings can cause practitioners to over-stretch and injure this muscle group. To avoid yoga injuries caused by tight hamstrings, make sure you are taking a bend in the knee and focus on lengthening through the spine as you forward fold. You will also want to engage through the quadriceps as you lengthen into the hamstrings which will provide stability for your stretch. You should never feel pain at the point of insertion in your hamstrings in any posture; if you do, stop what you are doing and prevent this common yoga injury. In essence, the best form of defense against a yoga injury is an adequate warm up, practicing good form, and self-awareness. So limber up, listen to your body, and enjoy your yoga class safely! For more information About Yoga so please visit us: https://www.krantiyoga.com

Interview With Revathi Raj Iyer
 21 June 2018

Revathi Raj Iyer is a freelance writer, book reviewer, company director, service volunteer and yoga/fitness enthusiast. Professionally qualified as Company Secretary (India & New Zealand) with legal background, she has worked in the corporate field for over a decade. Bombay is her hometown and Baroda her abode after marriage. When she moved to Fiji Islands, she bid adieu to a rewarding career with a multinational to become a full time mum and pursue her twin passions, yoga and writing. She worked as lecturer of Laws at the University of Fiji. Living between NZ and Fiji, she pursued writing and yoga training and continues her passion after moving to India. She lives in Ahmedabad, India and has completed her next book which is a collection of short stories. Her dream is to write books for children.A couple of easy questions to begin with…First off,  What inspired you to write “My Friendship with Yoga”?Physical activity was dominant in my life right from an early age, as a trained classical dancer, which continued until my late twenties. Thereafter it took a back seat, when I became engrossed with my career together with being hands-on mum to a lovely little daughter alongside other demands that needed my attention. However, things changed when we moved to Fiji Islands, and I got back into fitness with intense aerobics and strength training. As destiny would have it, a disciple of Yogacharya BKS Iyengar was deputed to Fiji to introduce this ancient tradition to the people of Fiji. Yoga was at my door step and I embraced it with heartfelt love. I started writing my yoga journal. One fine day, I decided to give a formal structure to my jottings to reach out to a wider audience. As I wrote the book I had no idea of the publishing process, but I was focussed on my goal. “My Friendship with Yoga” thus took shape and was launched on the 10th January, 2017 at the New Delhi World Book Fair. Thanks to Lifi Publications for making this happen! How do you see writing, as a hobby or a passion?I find writing very therapeutic and it also makes me happy. It is passion that drives me to enter that lonely space, which I beautify with words, plot and characters to create a story. Is yoga a way of life or a way to exercise and meditateYoga and meditation are a way of life for a holistic and healthy lifestyle. It is not instant therapy or about perfecting the postures. It is much more than that.  One has to go through a process of learning – patiently and persistently; and observe the changes it brings about in oneself. Please tell us some more about your debut novel?“My Friendship with Yoga” is about my progression from learning under an instructor to achieving confidence in self-practice and sharing my varied experiences with readers. I have presented the complicated aspects of yoga in a lucid style with practical hints so as to cater book lovers of all age groups and skill levels. The book is divided into three parts:Narrative which combines the physical, psychological and spiritual aspects of yoga, wherein a selection of topics along with interesting anecdotes have been coveredThe 2nd Part has more than 80 postures with steps to attain these, guidelines, tips, techniques and benefits; keeping in mind yoga enthusiasts, beginners as well as those who have been practising yoga. The 3rd Part consists of the much desired weekly practice schedule written sequentially with clear instructions to enhance one’s practice. What has yoga done for you as a person?Yoga has helped me to deal with a given situation in a pragmatic and dispassionate manner. It has enabled me to let go of the past and negative emotions, be more positive and result-oriented and direct my energies towards my creative pursuit and other commitments. Yoga has certainly helped in making me acknowledge and appreciate the choices I have made so far, and offered me a healthier and more content lifestyle. What sort of research did you do to write this book?I have been reading books on yoga, but “My Friendship with Yoga,” is the outcome of my entire learning process, from the disciple of BKS Iyengar and instructors from the West. My effort was to present the complicated aspects of yoga in simple language that would appeal to readers of all age groups and skill levels. Yoga is not about perfection as different bodies react in a certain way to a certain posture. To that end, my thought process kept evolving during the entire course of my writing. I made several drafts until I was fully satisfied that I had done justice to my work. For each and every asana which has been illustrated in the book, I consciously performed them and wrote down the steps. Every single breath, every movement, position, the sequence had to be accurate. How did you come up with the title of the book “My Friendship with yoga”?It came straight from the heart; in fact I did not falter or ponder over the title. I began writing this book with its title in place. The title was a reminder to simplify yoga and it guided me in writing a user and reader friendly book, which has been appreciated by the reviewers and readers. Fortunately, my publishers were also happy with the title and did not suggest any changes.Besides writing, what else do you do in your free time?Besides writing and reading books; I practice yoga, support my publisher in the promotion of my book, review books for Muse India, handle professional commitment as Director of a company, travel and spend time with my family. I love to bake and cook, and feel delighted when the outcome exceeds my expectations Do you recall the first ever book/novel you read?I don’t recall the title of the first book, but I started off with the Enid Blyton series, followed by Agatha Christie. Were your parents reading enthusiasts who gave you a push to be a reader as a kid?My mum read a lot and I would accompany her to the local lending library. She was not pushy but I gradually picked up the habit and enjoyed those evening walks to the library after school, with my best friend. She will get nostalgic when she reads this! What are your top three favorite books of all time?It is hard to pick just 3, as I have so many favorites. Hmmm….. The Little Prince, Kite Runner, Reluctant Fundamentalist, Namesake…As a new author, what is your favorite part of the writing/ publishing process? Least favorite. My favorite part is the writing itself and working hand-in-glove with the publishers; the book launch being the icing on the cake. My least favorite part is to face rejections without knowing the reason for it, after waiting for months to hear from publishers. What is the main thing you want readers to take away from your book?To understand the pure essence and simplicity of yoga, without feeling intimidated or inadequateAs mentioned in the book, “Yoga is not about perfection. It is a very enjoyable bonding with our body and mind that teaches us to be resilient and patient.”I would like you to share something about yourself with the readers. Something that does not go in the about the author section something that is the real you?I dream a lot and wish that all my dreams came true, hahaha…And finally, A message for aspiring writers?“Rejections are a part of the whole process of being ultimately accepted and acknowledged, as a writer. Please do not give up, no matter what, and pursue your passion, despite the road blocks. Think of the book lovers and connect with them. Write for them and the passion will always be with you.”Thank you. It was really a privilege interviewing you. Hope you enjoyed the interview. Links to buy the book- Amazon.in Amazon.com FlipkartWrite to her at chirminey@gmail.com

5 Things to Avoid in Food During Trekking
 30 May 2019

Trekking is a holistic activity that takes you to places that are unbelievably picturesque. Places that you may have seen in photographs and postcards. The glistening mountain tops and pristine lakes are not the only things that are tempting to the soul. The foods in these areas of the world are so different to the taste buds and very new to enthusiastic souls who like to discover these new things while travelling. The fun in travelling lies in these small discoveries that one makes. While trekking, one comes across so many kinds of mesmerising terrains and landscapes, the soul and the body is ready to accept all the good that the foods of the local area brings along in the course of the journey. Not just the food but the native cultures and traditions are rich, diverse and a segment of traditional beliefs that have passed down the ages. Nepal is a place that is known for the diverse amount of trekking trails and terrains, for trek enthusiasts to dwell in. The best part is that trekking in Nepal does not burn a huge hole in your pocket, that’s why Nepal is a favourite amongst enthusiasts. One of the most famous tracks for trekking is the Everest base camp trekking in Nepal. People, who want to get close to the highest mountain in the world, opt for this trekking trail once in Nepal. There is a long list of foods that you should eat while on a trekking trip, but there are 5 important foods and beverages that you must absolutely avoid while starting on a trekking journey. 1. Alcoholic beveragesConsumption of alcohol lowers your energy outlet and drags down your focus while trekking. More than anything, alcohol is a beverage that stirs your emotional levels and hampers the progress on your mental capacity on a trek. Trekking is an activity that requires your mind to be aware and alert at all times; a loss of one second of your attention span can lead to fatal accidents. It is worse if you go through a hangover before starting a lengthy trek.  It is true that people consume alcohol to ward off the chilling winds in a trek, but that is only really small quantities of alcohol. It is always better to celebrate with alcohol after the trek is over. 2. Cold meatsYou may have heard that meat is a very strong source of proteins and energy, but you may not know that you can obtain the same quantity of proteins and vitamins from so many kinds of vegetables. More than anything, why the consumption of meat is so bothersome is that, meat can be preserved and kept for inculcating flavour, and the proteins in the meat don’t survive for long. So, what you consume in the end is a dead flesh that has been cured for flavour. While trekking you need proteins and vitamins to keep you trekking in a consistent manner, it is not advisable to consume dead flesh while on a trek that needs you to produce the energy from within. Especially while on a trek to Nepal do not expect a lot of variety in meat. If you are used to eating beef forget that you will find beef anywhere, cow is the national animal of Nepal and it is highly offensive to consume beef or steak. 3. Carbonated drinksWhen on a trek you must take care of your abdomen and stomach. Try to eat foods that do not upset the stomach a lot. Especially consuming all natural based items is advisable. Carbonated drinks only serve for flavour and the taste buds while not being a very healthy option while on a trek. For energy boost and refreshment, try drinking natural vegan milks and fruit juices instead. 4. RiceEating rice in large amounts causes your stomach to swell and this makes it hard for you to carry your own weight on a trek. Rice is necessary for the carbohydrates that is provides but consuming too much out of hunger is not advised. This is because rice does not provide lot of roughage for exercising the abdomen. Rather breads like the traditional Nepali roti are full of proteins and roughage. 5. Processed foodsAny form of processed foods is likely to contain very less amounts of the vitamins of that particular food. Processed foods also contain traces of preservatives that are not beneficial for your energy flow. Avoid processed foods and try to consume more foods that can be naturally sourced, even if it lacks in flavour which is very unlikely, opt for natural foods, fruits and vegetables.  While on an important trek, or any trekking expedition for that matter, try to go as vegan or vegetarian as possible. The greens that you consume hold a lot more energy than meat and other alternatives you consume for proteins. There are a lot of foods that are essential for treks, and believe it or not, while on a trek, the simplest foods like rice, wheat and lentils are the best source of energy. The locals thrive on this kind of food and it is what keeps them surviving and it the best shape to be alive on these terrains. We may be tourists but the natives are locals they are one with the mountains and the natural surroundings. So follow their lead and do in Rome as the Romans do.

Chhaupadi:an inhuman practice
 1 April 2019

Chhaupadi (Nepali: छाउपडी )It is a social tradition associated with the menstrual taboo in the western part of Nepal. The tradition prohibits Hindu women from participating in normal family activities while menstruating, as they are considered "impure". The women are kept out of the house and have to live in a cattle shed or in a hut. This period of time lasts between ten and eleven days when an adolescent girl has her first period; thereafter, the duration is between four and seven days each month. As per the social custom, women who are unmarried have to stay six days in the hut, married women having both a son and a daughter have to stay five days, and women who have only daughters will have to live for seven days in the hut. During this time, women are forbidden to touch men or even to enter the courtyard of their own homes. They are barred from consuming milk, yogurt, butter, meat, and other nutritious foods, for fear they will forever pollute those goods. The women must survive on a diet of dry foods, salt, and rice. They cannot use warm blankets and are allowed only a small rug; most commonly, this is made of jute (also known as burlap). They are also restricted from going to school or performing daily functions like taking a bath. They are not even allowed to bathe from the tap, in wells or rivers during that period of time. In some villages, there are separate taps and wells for the women. They are completely barred from going near the temple; if a road is even linked to a temple, a menstruating woman has to choose a different path. This system comes from the superstition of impurity during the menstruation period. In this superstitious logic, if a menstruating woman touches a tree, it will never again bear fruit; if she consumes milk, the cow will not give any more milk; if she reads a book, Saraswati, the goddess of education, will become angry; if she touches a man, he will be sick. There is a strong belief among locals that if women are allowed to stay inside the home during their menstrual period it would bring misfortunes for members of family and the family members will fall sick. Male members of the family believe the custom must be followed to avoid any bad luck. Senior members of families and village elders are firm in this tradition, while the young, educated generation cannot gather the courage to challenge this custom.Reports indicate that more than 90 percent of women in Nepal’s far-western and mid-western districts follow the Chhaupadi tradition, whether due to social pressure or according to their own wishes. As they are compelled to sleep in poorly constructed and dirty huts, these women face health problems and other risks. Woman who live in the huts are always at risk of diarrhea, pneumonia, and respiratory diseases. While living in the isolated huts, they also face the danger of attack by wild animals, snake bite or even abuse and rape by their fellow villagers. Women have died while performing the practice, including two young women in late 2016 who died from smoke inhalation and "carbon monoxide poisoning" from lighting fires to heat the shelters during cold weather.Following pressure from rights activists, last year Nepal’s parliament enacted a law labeling Chhaupadi a criminal act. As per the new law, people who force their family members to live in sheds are subject to legal actions. Nepal’s Supreme Court had directed the government to make laws criminalizing Chhaupadi all the way back in 2005; it took more than a decade to formulate the laws. Now that the laws are in place, the challenge is in effective implementation. It is not easy to implement laws to prevent long- standing customs like Chhaupadi. In comparison to the past, there have been some changes in urban areas but such practices are still rampant in rural areas. In this region, it is very  difficult to change the mindset of even educated people. Local politicians and political parties can play a vital role in creating awareness at the local level about the harms of this custom. However, politicians are often reluctant to highlight this issue because they fear of losing the support of common people. Parliamentarians rarely raise such issues in the national parliament; instead they want to conceal such social issues. Some non-governmental organizations at the local level and some government agencies are creating awareness, asking people to shun Chhaupadi, but due to the lack of support and backing from politicians, their campaigns have not been effective.Source: Kamal Dev Bhattarai (Kathmandu-based writer and journalist)Rajabala

Bhagavad Gita Verse 3.7
 13 September 2019

Karma Yoga - In Gita Verse 3.7 On the other hand, if a sincere person tries to control the active senses by the mind and begins karma-yoga without attachment, he is by far superior.Krishna here gave distinction of Karma Yoga. In Bhagavad Gita Verse 3.3, Krishna explain us Gyan Yoga and Bhakti Yoga. In this verse he speaks regarding Karma Yoga. Till we are alive in the body, our body will act, there will be action through our body. But when we act, from where our actions come, that makes the whole difference.Just recollect moment in your life when you are angry your action is anger, when you are loving your action is loving, affectionate, if you replay your this incidence again and again you will realize that you were unconscious when your anger or love emotion was present in your action. You were self-unconscious. Even if you realize such a small thing you will find certain space is opening in you, which is you may name as empty like canvas. But like in our education unless we were introduced ‘A’ we will not know the ‘A’, the same way this empty space is who we are, not introduce to us. So we are unknown and ignorant towards self. Many times during the day we come across this space but because we have not got proper education to recognize ourselves we are unknown to this. Krishna says unless you act from this empty space, which has got no judgements, emotions, thinking, your act cannot come from non-attachment. This empty space is our subjectivity, our soul. We are ignorant regarding our empty space as all the religion has taught us scriptures but not introduce us this space, which is Who We Are.What Krishna says you don’t have choice for action but you have a choice whether you want to act from your unconsciousness or consciousness, your attachments or non-attachments. If your actions are from non-attachment then you are liberated. To Karma Yoga, Sufis call it “the watcher on the hills.” The valleys go on changing but the watcher remains on the top of the hill. Sometimes the valley is dark and sometimes the valley is light and sometimes there is dancing and singing and sometimes there is weeping and crying – and the watcher sits on the hill-top and just goes on watching.By and by the content of consciousness does not matter only consciousness becomes significant. That is the essential foundation of all true religion. And this is the understanding of the Sufis. There are four ways to approach truth, to be connected with truth. The first is known in the East as karma yoga – the way of action. Man has three dimensions in him: action, knowing, feeling. So three ways use these three directions: action, knowing, feeling. You can act, and you can act with total absorption, and you can offer your act to God. You can act without becoming a doer. That is the first way – karma yoga: being in action without being a doer. You let God do. You let God be in you. You efface yourself. In this, the path of action, consciousness changes the content. These two things have to be understood: consciousness and content. This is all that your life consists of. There is something which is the knower in you and something which is the known. For example, you are listening to music. Now two things are there: whatsoever music plays will be the content, and whatsoever you are inside, listening, watching, that is the consciousness. You are looking at instruments, through which music is played. Then instrument in your eyes is the content and you, who are looking at that instrument in the eye, are consciousness – the object and the subject. On the path of action, consciousness changes the content That is what action is. You see a rock. Somebody may stumble upon it – because it is getting dark, night is falling. so you remove the rock from the path. This is action. What have you done? Consciousness has changed the content. On the path of action, content is important and has to be changed. If somebody is ill and you go and serve him and you give him medicine, you are changing the content. If somebody has fallen in the river and is drowning, you jump in and you save him from drowning. You have changed the content.Action is content-directed. Action is will – something has to be done. Of course, if the will remains ego-oriented, then you will not be religious. You will be a great doer, but not religious. And your path will be of action but not towards God. When you allow God to become your will, when you say, “Let thy will be mine,” when you surrender your will to the feet of god and his will starts flowing through you, then it is the path of action – karma yoga. The goal of karma yoga is freedom, moksha – to change the contents so much that nothing antagonistic is left there, nothing harmful is left there; to change the content according to your heart’s desire, so that you can be free of limitations. This is the path of Jainism, yoga, and all action-oriented philosophies.Krishna tells Arjuna that you will be librearated if you do your part of action align with the universal will, God’s will, your act will be non-attached. So just focus on your assignment of the Universe, Fight Without Enmity.

When you're reading for the CCNA and CCNP tests, you have many options with regards to preparing. One famous decision is picking one of the many "training camps" and five-day in-person courses that are out there. I've shown many of these, and keeping in mind that huge numbers of them are great, they do have downsides.Obviously, one is cost. Numerous businesses are putting the brakes on paying for CCNA and CCNP training camps, and most up-and-comers can't stand to pay a huge number of dollars for such a class. At that point you have travel costs, dinners, and having to potentially consume your very own get-away time to take the class. Include time away from your family and training camps become unfeasible for some CCNA/CCNP applicants.Another issue is weakness. I appreciate showing week-long classes, however how about we face realities - regardless of whether you're preparing for the CCNA or CCNP tests, you will get a great deal of data tossed at you in only a couple of days. You will be rationally and physically depleted toward the week's end, and that is the point at which some training camps really have you take the test! You must be revived and rested when you take the test to have your most obvious opportunity with regards to progress. How might you get the advantage of an accomplished teacher without paying a huge number of dollars? By taking a Video Training camp! There are some great PC based preparing (CBT) courses out there, and these courses offer many favorable circumstances for the CCNA and CCNP applicant. These courses run hundreds rather than a large number of dollars, and you can prepare without anyone else plan. It is significant for you to make and keep that timetable, yet as opposed to burning through a large number of dollars and voyaging, you can get world-class CCNA and CCNP preparing in the solace of your own home.By consolidating a top notch CCNA or CCNP CBT or video training camp with a solid hard working attitude, you're en route to passing the test and quickening your profession. Bhagavad Gita Verse 2.48
 13 August 2019

Yam - In Gita Verse 2.48 Perform your duty equipoised, O Arjuna, abandoning all attachment to success or failure. Such equanimity is called yoga.Krishna is talking regarding inner-discipline of Yoga - yam (inner discipline, direction, centering). Asking Arjuna to perform his duty as a Kshatriya, and also as a messenger of universe. Unless first he becomes kshatriya he will not be able to bring his inner discipline. Once he will balance with his inner discipline, direction and centreing he will not be able to balance himself, without balance he will not be able to do his duty by abandoning all attachments.A man of awareness will become immediately aware that death and sex are one energy, and a total culture, a whole culture, a holy culture, will accept both. It will not be lopsided; it will not move to one extreme and avoid the other. Each moment you are both life and death. To understand this is to transcend duality. The whole effort of Yoga is how to transcend.Yam is meaningful because when a person becomes aware of death, only then is a life of self-discipline possible. If you are only aware of sex, of life, and you have been avoiding death – escaping from it, closing your eyes to it, keeping it always at the back, throwing it into the unconscious – then you will not create a life of self-discipline. For what? Then your life will be a life of indulgence – eat, drink. be merry. Nothing is wrong in it, but, in itself, this is not the whole picture. This is just a part, and when you take the part as the whole, you miss; you miss tremendously.Animals are without any awareness of death: that’s why there is no possibility for Patanjali to teach animals. No possibility because no animal will be ready for self-discipline. The animal will ask, “For what?” There is only life, there is no death, because the animal is not aware that he is going to die. If you become aware that you are going to die, then immediately you start rethinking about life. Then you would like death to be absorbed in life. When death is absorbed in life yam is born: a life of discipline. Then you live but you always live with the remembrance of death. You move but you always know that you are moving towards death. You enjoy but you always know that this is not going to last forever. Death becomes your shadow, part of your being, part of your perspective. You have absorbed death; now self-discipline will be possible. Now you will think, “How to live?” because life is not the goal now: death is also part of it. How to live so that you can live and die also beautifully? How to live so that not only does life become a crescendo of bliss, but death becomes the highest? – because death is the climax of life.To live in such a way that you become capable of living totally and you become capable of dying totally. That’s the whole meaning of self-discipline. Self-discipline is not a suppression; it is to live a directed life, a life with the sense of direction. It is to live a life fully alert and aware of death. Then your river of life has both the banks. Life and death, and the river of consciousness flows between these two. Anybody who is trying to live life denying death its part is trying to move along one bank; his river of consciousness cannot be total. He will lack something; he will lack something very beautiful. His life will be superficial; there will be no depth in it. Without death there is no depth. The life of yam is a life of balance.Krishna is saying that you are in the middle of the war, very unique circumstances, where you are facing the death but against that your whole family and attachments are also there. If you can see and fight this war which has given you unique opportunity to drop all the attachments including your own, you can liberate yourself.Yoga is not against indulgence, attachments; Yoga is for balance. Yoga says, “Be alive but be always ready to die also.” It looks contradictory. Yoga says, “Enjoy. But, remember, this is not your home. This is an overnight stay.”Be total so all the contradictions are absorbed and a harmony arises. You want to become monotonous. A life of ordinary indulgence is monotonous. A life of ordinary Yoga is also monotonous, boring. A life which comprehends all contradictions in it, which has many notes in it but, still, all notes fall in harmony; that life is a rich life. And to have that rich life, is Yoga.Krishna says become conscious of this moment come back to your inner discipline and with this you fight. Remember Krishna is not asking him to fight the war, he is asking Arjuna to become aware and connect with his inner discipline, subjectivity and then fight the war. As from the awareness if he will fight the war then it will be just his role in this whole universe.

Bhagavad Gita Verse 4.17
 10 November 2019

Martial Art - In Gita Verse 4.17 The intricacies of action are very hard to understand. Therefore one should know properly what action is, what forbidden action is and what inaction is.Krishna is saying that it’s very difficult to understand the complexity of existence and act. When to act how to act, when restrict ourselves from act, what is inaction.First start from Inaction. When we are self-unconscious at that time we are not taking any initiative to act, is called inaction but when we become fully self-conscious we respond to the present moment, this is also inaction, we transcended our non-initiative to respond.During the journey from self-unconsciousness to self-consciousness we could not understand when and how to act. In Buddhism and Taoist they practice Martial Art. They practice Martial Art to defend. Once you learn this art then in your journey from Self-unconsciousness to Self-consciousness you will give hint when to act and when not to act. Your action will follow the awareness of act to defend.Practice of martial arts may not seem at first to be a particularly Taoist pursuit - after all martial means 'war like' and these skills are used to injure others. However, there is actually no contradiction - Taoist martial artists learn to defend themselves, not to attack others. At the same time they develop suppleness, fitness and timing. Success in the martial arts requires discipline, self-control and perseverance, thus they are also spiritual and mental activities. The primary unifying aspect of the East Asian martial arts, which sets them apart from other martial arts, is the influence of Taoism and Zen Buddhism. This influence has resulted in a strong emphasis on the mental and spiritual state of the practitioner, a state in which the rationalizing and calculating functions of the mind are suspended so that the mind and body can react immediately as a unit, reflecting the changing situation around the combatant. When this state is perfected, the everyday experience of the dualism of subject and object vanishes. Since this mental and physical state is also central to Taoism and Zen, and must be experienced to be grasped, many of their adherents practice the martial arts as a part of their philosophical and spiritual training. Conversely, numerous practitioners of the martial arts take up the practice of these philosophies.Through the Martial Art practice by spiritual seeker defend themselves means their focus is not on others, but on themselves. They practice Martial art to bring the awareness in their action. They have found by practicing this silence arises in them. They become silent. As in their action no aggressiveness their thoughts disappear. No-mind is found in very relaxed manner.Unless you are relaxed you cannot be in no-mind. No-mind simply means that you have stopped judging, fighting with mind. You started watching the mind.Mind is one of the most beautiful mechanisms. Science has not yet been able to create anything parallel to mind. Mind still remains the masterpiece, so complicated, so tremendously powerful, with so many potentialities. Watch it! Enjoy it!Watch the subtle nuances of the mind, the sudden turns, the beautiful turns, the sudden jumps and leaps; the games that mind goes on playing; the dreams that it weaves—the imagination, the memory; the thousand and one projections that it creates. Watch! Standing there, aloof, distant, not involved, by and by you will start feeling… The deeper your watchfulness becomes, the deeper your awareness becomes, and gaps start arising, intervals. One thought goes and another has not come, and there is a gap. One cloud has passed, another is coming and there is a gap.In those gaps, for the first time you will have glimpses of no-mind, you will have the taste of no-mind—call it the taste of Zen, or Tao, or Yoga. In those small intervals, suddenly the sky is clear and the sun is shining. Suddenly the world is full of mystery, because all barriers are dropped; the screen on your eyes is no more there. You see clearly, you see penetratingly. The whole existence becomes transparent. We are fortunate to understand Krishna from various practices. Be in gratitude towards all the practices and you will understand yourself in a very simple way.Krishna through Gita guiding us how to be with ourselves in the middle of the world.

Bhagavad Gita Verse 3.3
 9 September 2019

Sinless - In Gita Verse 3.3 The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: O sinless Arjuna, I have already explained that there are two classes of men who try to realize the self. Some are inclined to understand it by empirical, philosophical speculation, and others by devotional service.Krishna is saying there are two paths to realize your self, subjectivity. One is Gyan Yoga, and another is Bhakti Yoga. Both of them reaches to themselves.Gyan Yogi is one who adds meditation to thought. He links meditation to the world of thought. He begins to think meditatively. A new practice is added: whatever one does is done with awareness. When the state of thought plus meditation is established the journey towards witnessing begins.Meditation is a change of direction.Whatever meditation is joined to becomes a vehicle for moving towards witnessing. And the Bhakti Yoga – adding meditation to emotion, a deep joining of meditation and emotion, the whirlpool of meditation and feeling! While feeling become meditative. Before saying that there are two paths. He addresses Arjuna ‘SINLESS ARJUNA’ and gave a message to everyone of us that all of us are sinless. What Is Sin?To the Upanishads, it is not related to the doing at all. What you do is irrelevant; what you are is the point. It is not the doing but the being itself that is significant. So what will it mean to call a man a sinner? We mean that he is ignorant, unaware of his own self. Because of this ignorance, his acts become sins. The act can become a sin only because the doer is ignorant, unaware, unconscious, is living in a state of sleep. Ignorance is sin and awareness is virtue. Your acts are irrelevant because they are not central; in the center is your consciousness. If something is wrong with the consciousness, your acts will go wrong. If the consciousness is set right, your acts will follow. So just to go on changing your acts will not lead you anywhere. You can commit a sin, you can repent a sin, you can replace a sin by virtue, by a virtuous act – but it will not be of any meaning for the Upanishads if you remain the same. Unless you change, your consciousness changes, unless you attain a new plane of being, a new plenitude, just a change of your acts is useless. So the Upanishads do not think in terms of acts; they think in terms of your being. Alert, aware, conscious, you are virtuous. Why? – Because the more you are alert and conscious and aware, the less is the possibility of committing a sin. The basic requirement for committing a sin is to be unconscious. For example, you can be angry only if you forget yourself. If you are self-remembering, aware, anger is impossible. It cannot exist with awareness. No coexistence is possible. When you are aware, it is not that you control your anger, restrain your anger, suppress your anger – no! It simply cannot be there. In a fully aware person, anger cannot exist; just as in a fully lighted room darkness cannot exist. The coexistence is impossible. The moment you bring a lamp into the dark room, the darkness is no more there. With the light the darkness cannot exist. And the Upanishads say it is futile and foolish to fight with darkness because you cannot fight with darkness. If you fight you will be defeated. Howsoever strong you may be, you cannot fight darkness because darkness is only the absence of light. Bring the light and darkness disappears. The Upanishads say sin is darkness. Bring the light of consciousness and sin disappears. Do not fight with the sin; do not be concerned directly with the sin; do not think in terms of sin. Otherwise you will feel guilty and it will not be a spiritual growth; rather, it will be a fall.Krishna says to everyone either through Gyan Yoga or by Bhakti Yoga connect through meditation either your thinking or emotion and move towards witnessing.

Bhagavad Gita Verse 4.1
 22 October 2019

Inner Science - In Gita Verse 4.1 The Personality of Godhead, Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa, said: I instructed this imperishable science of yoga to the sun-god, Vivasvān, and Vivasvān instructed it to Manu, the father of mankind, and Manu in turn instructed it to Ikṣvāku.Krishna is saying that this is not the first time I am sharing with you Arjuna, the sciences of inner, I have shared this knowledge before also to the sun-god, Vivasvān, and Vivasvān instructed it to Manu, the father of mankind, and Manu in turn instructed it to Ikṣvāku.They also have shared with others by knowing and creating their own experience. They took this knowledge but without practicing on them, without creating their own experience they have not shared with anyone. If you will take this knowledge and fight this war without enmity, it will become your knowing and not knowledge, and you will be able to share your experience of Fighting Without Enmity to future humanity. They will also learn that how we need to take any information and knowledge from others. When Krishna says the science of yoga means that don’t reject any knowledge but never try to share with others without you have experiments with yourself. You are your own laboratory for your inner science. If without experiencing that if you will share with others it will be egoistic. You will like to use that words to others to control others by your knowledge.Never reject your body but use it knowledge to act through your body, then wait and listen to your body guidance, but like scientist never repeat that action again, always find out how you can act innovatively. If you will repeat your action it will be from knowledge and not from your knowing.Try this experiment - when Krishna tells Arjuna to fight without enmity, don’t take it as words, but try to act without anger. Just remember that in your action there is no anger. And you will be surprise that every time when anger comes with your reminder to yourself, - I will act without anger - you will find that all the time your action and respond in that circumstances will be different. This is the message of universe, message of Krishna, Christ, Osho, Buddha. Use your body but respond through your own self-remembering.In my Bhagavad Gita Verse 1.4, I wrote in detail regarding self-remembering.First step to transcend your knowledge to knowing is self-remembering. Wait and look inside if you know that some intangible guidance through your body - means you have directed your senses from second door - from inner - then take any action. This will give you freshness, relaxed experience, silence. This is sign of your action from knowing and not from the knowledge. One of the simplest way is to be total in your action to transcend from knowledge to knowing. The miracle is that when one can go into one’s emotions a hundred percent, all that is wrong starts disappearing. That is the miracle. And all that is right starts growing. A really total person will not be able to be angry. In the beginning when you start you will be more and more angry, but soon the point comes when you are totally angry and see the naked futility of anger, the utter absurdity of anger, the insanity of anger. When you have seen it – not because Buddha has said so or I have said so – it will drop. The seeing is enough. You need not drop it, it drops of its own accord.A total person will be able to love and unable to hate. A total person will be able to be compassionate and will be unable to be angry. That is the end. I am not telling you to be a buddha right now. But one has to begin somewhere. One has to start moving in the direction of being a buddha. You will miss the point if you try to follow the words go in totality. With that you may like to become perfectionist. No - I am not teaching you any kind of perfectionism, I am not giving you any ideals. Totality is certainly not an ideal; it sounds as if it is. It is just a different style of life. Right now you are living a lifestyle which can be called partial – only parts of your being are allowed to surface, only the tip of the iceberg. You are living in fragments, you are living split. This is a kind of schizophrenic life.Misery is bound to be the outcome of it – misery and only misery. Bliss is the consequence of being one, integrated.
