Rakshabandan – Renewal of Memories

Rakshabandan is nearing. I usually don’t celebrate but have tied few Rakhis to guys during School and College days. But now I don’t feel like tying Rakhi to anyone, after certain age I would not like to explicitly celebrate but would experience.

Every year when Rakshabandan arrives, one person always run on my mind, my colleague. She is in different project. We started talking to each other during lunch and then started having lunch together, going for walk, or having coffee at evening. One day I was outside my office premise, ready to take bus, saw her coming from the opposite side of the road. Seeing me, she said, “I had gone to check the charge to courier Rakhi for my brother but they are charging too high, I will check some other Courier in my area”. Then we said bye and parted to our routes.

Knowing her for few years, I got to know, every Rakshabandan, her sister in law would come with family to her place. My colleague, would be the most busiest person on that day, she will be preparing meals – starters, main course, dessert. They all celebrate together. She is used to this routine for years now. Once I asked her, “Don’t you wish to go to your home during Rakshabandan?”. She replied, “I would love to but being here is also important”. May be deep down, she wants to go to her home once during Rakshabandan but she has accepted and celebrate the day with her family.

I always hope to hear a different story about Rakshabandan from her. Till then, every year, Rakshabandan will always remind me of my colleague who make this celebration a memorable one for her family!!
