Organic gardeners have utilized marigolds to help keep away aphids. Its smell is not appreciated by mosquitoes or some human. Marigolds are sun-loving annuals that come in a variety of shapes and sizes to suit nearly every outdoor landscape. They are quite easy to grow from seed.

AGERATUM

The charming bedding plant has coumarin in it, and mosquitoes detest the scent. It is used in the perfume industry and is even in some commercial mosquito repellants. However, you shouldn’t apply it on your skin. It has some other undesirable components that you do not want to put on your skin in quantity. They are annuals and the come in

a muted blue and white that is a perfect match for other outdoor plantings.

MOSQUITO PLANTS

Two types of plants are referred to as mosquito plants. The first one is part of the geranium family of plants, which was genetically engineered with the citronella properties. Citronella only grows in tropical regions, however it is well-known as a repellent to mosquitoes. It is a mixture with the repelling properties of citronella and a more robust plant. It is able to grow in any place where Geraniums thrive. Although some are skeptical about its effectiveness as a deterrent against mosquitoes, the plant is appealing enough to justify the effort of the planting of it to enhance its aesthetic value.

Agagastache is another kind of mosquito plant. It’s also known by numerous other names, like giant the hummingbird min, giant hyssop and Texas Hummingbird m. As you might guess, hummingbirds are quite attracted to it. It is one of the New Mexico native, also found in some parts of Texas. It is, in actual part of the mint family, and its leaves do have the scent of a sour if crushed. It is perennial in its natural habitat, and can be located in USDA Zones 5a-9a. The flowers bloom from late summer to early fall, and is a magnet for hummingbirds as they make their annual migration. The medium-length, long flowers attract butterflies too.

CATNIP

Ordinary catnip is a powerful repellent plant for mosquitoes. Recent research has shown that ordinary catnip repels mosquitoes ten times better than DEET. It is a perennial which can only last a few years across the United States. It can be easily grown from seeds and quickly reseeded. Apart from the intoxicating effects on cats, the leaves create an extremely soothing tea.
