The Empire branded him an abomination. Fleeing into exile, Azarian wandered the catacombs beneath Sarn, where echoes of the experiment called to him. Over centuries, the fragment of his spirit trapped in the relic grew resentful, whispering to its host. To silence the voice, Azarian built the Vestibule a subterranean sanctuary meant to bridge the gap between life and death. But the longer he dwelled there, the less human he became. Now, both halves of his soul exist in torment one seeking redemption, the other demanding vengeance.
In Path of Exile 2, the Vestibule serves as a pivotal dungeon midway through the campaign. It is neither temple nor tomb, but a purgatory suspended between worlds. The area's architecture is unmistakable: marble corridors overrun by spectral vines, gilded lanterns that burn with ghostly flame, and echoing chambers where footsteps reverberate seconds too long, hinting at a space stretched by unnatural geometry.
Gameplay-wise, the Vestibule introduces mechanics centered around dual realities. Players periodically phase between the material and spectral planes, each revealing unique hazards and paths. In the mortal plane, traps and collapsing floors threaten the body; in the spectral plane, time itself slows, but unseen wraiths drain mana and life simultaneously. Learning when to shift between these states becomes crucial for survival.
