She tried all juicily leering feminine tricks. But her desire-lorn swirls in the air failed to move him even a bit. Helplessly she descended onto the earth. There were almost tears of helplessness in her beautiful eyes. She sat in front of him with those rose-red lips pursed in a heart-breaking frown.Her marvellous eyes were lost in his handsome, bearded, well sculpted face. It was mesmerizing. There was not a single worldly trace on his face. She herself was caught in a trance and lost the sense of time and the laws of the fairyland. The night sped away as if in a jiffy.The day rose. The sun arrived with full earthly delight. There was terror in her eyes. The hope to return to her realm died. She had broken the law of her land by not returning on the same night after the brief terrestrial sojourn. The realisation crashed against her soft self like a thunderbolt. Her utmost sensuous bare shoulders heaved under the tremors of this unpardonable fault. A cry involuntarily tore through her slender throat. And then it was a still bigger violation.His serenely flowing meditative phrase met this sinful, full-stopping dot. His communion with the divinity was broken. His long-closed eyes opened. The world of his penance lay scattered. His fiercely burning eyes stared at the flower in sobs and sighs. Her large, flooded eyes pleaded for mercy. The sage thundered, “You proud, vain woman of egoistic beauty, become an ugly bush of thorns!”Mowed down by the spell of his cursing energy, an ugly bush stood in place of that angelic beauty. All shaken and ravaged, he left the place. A thorny branch, meanwhile, got entangled in his loin cloth, as if for meek, pleading forgiveness and brace. He but scornfully jerked it apart and headed to some other place for a new start.Time then took to its heels on swift horses. The seasons changed. The spring’s colourful patterns were rearranged. The summer’s warm kisses melted the snows. The autumn’s harvest uncomplainingly fell to the air’s chiding blows. The winter’s snowy blanket covered the peaks. And rains lashed down in stormy freaks.This pleasant wavering of nature, however, couldn’t shake the sage from the meditative maze high there in the hills. Faraway down the hills, the accursed bush was shrouded in thorny haze. It struggled to sprout fruits and flowers. Even cursing has a testing time against soft, innocent glow of purity. How can something having a fairy core remain ugly and thorny for too long? Her pure soul entombed in that thorny shrine prayed for penance. And see, a flower of her fruits sprouts forth!A flower blossomed among the thorns. So beautiful! It lit up with life among the thorns and deadly pale dark brown branches. It appeared juxtaposed by a miracle, like it had dropped from the heaven and got stuck there. It was the day when the enlightened sage arrived from the north. Contented with his cosmic realisation, he came down the beautiful dale. As he passed the bush, his purified soul sensed the thorny shrub’s plaintive wail. His feet disobeyed him and he couldn’t move. The lone flower among the thorns fell at his feet in holy-most obeisance and greet. He picked it up and was lost in its fragrance.The thorn was ugly. The flower so beautiful and fragrant! What contradiction! Flowery heaven and thorny hell together! The latter born of his cursing condemnation; the flower born of the beauty behind the thorny bars. It was a jolting earthly realisation. Hadn’t he broken the beautifully set laws?Torrents of repentance cut through him. He bid penance at the altar for a long time. His repenting self set around a reformative shrine. His soul drenched in painful chime. He braced the thorns with the love and affection purest of the pure. It gave him bleeding fingers so many times. He caressed and cared for it like it was the beautiful most flowery shrub. He was practicing his penance now, of love, of surrender, of repentance. What else can be bigger than these?When his soul had been salvaged of the sin, nobody could bet against her for a win. There she blossomed in front of him. Beauty, charm and grace filled to the brim. Her smile was forgetting and forgiving. It was the beacon of her penance, of love, of beauty. Inside the stony walls of his heart, a new luminosity was now thriving. The sage embraced her. She, who had been separated from her loved ones, got the earthling she had fallen for. Happiness, bliss and calm opened a new door to the start of a fresh cycle of life, love and humanity.All but the sage had been extinguished by the cataclysm. The lone and forlorn survivor, he had been striking at the doors of heaven with his endless questions. Now there was no more pursuit. The endless had manifested itself in a small sip of love. Now they lived as a man and a woman. New hopes, aspirations and offspring began to thrive.Thus were sown the seeds of another spell and cycle of life, of creation. Their unchecked love in those flowery vales left countless exotic trails. Gurgling brooks gave company to her primordially sensuous laughter. His instinct’s procreating sprouts mingled with the mirthful waters of her receptiveness.

This question comes into my mind when every time I see comment by various Hindus claiming that they are Hindu. As a theology student, I believe that there is something which is not unique in definition as they say. Few common answer, I am referring below:-1. I am born as a Hindu, that is why I am Hindu.2. I do Poojas and follow customs of Hindu community, that is why I am Hindu.3. I am Indian and Hindus are synonyms to Indian.4. I follow Gurus and read Sastras so I am Hindu.But I find that these all answer is not complete and not comprehended all aspect of being Hindu. Irrespective of many customs, Sastras, and Philosophy we still have not a single definition. But after studying the texts, I come into a common ground for this question.I would like to confine it five points or five pillars of being Hindu.1. Anyone who thinks Vedas as Authentic (not authoritative) texts for knowledge and foundation of customs is Hindu.2. Anyone who believes in four basic principles of Vedas and Upanishads: Karm faal, Purusartha, Reincarnation, and Dharma is Hindu.3. Anyone who believes that his basic philosophy is Veda, Vedanta, Agama, Siddhanta or Sagama is Hindu (I am not including Puran).4. Anyone who believes that Bharat (From Himalayas to Kanyakumari and Burma to Afganistan) is the cradle of Dharma and Humanity is Hindu.5. Anyone who believes that Reading, discussing, spreading and seeking the Vedas and Vedic meaning is his ultimate goal of being Dharmic is a Hindu.In more short ways"Anyone who considers Vedas as Authentic texts, believes in the principle of Vedas and follow the philosophy evolve from Vedas is Hindu with the compulsory duty of reading and seeking the meaning of universe for spreading the light of truth"

If you are really silent you can sit in a market, and even the market cannot disturb it. Rather, you feed on the noise of the market and that noise becomes more silence in you. Really, to feel silence a market is needed — because if you have real silence, then the market becomes the background and the silence becomes perfect in contrast. You can feel the inner silence bubbling against the market.There is no need to go to the Himalayas. And if you go, what will you see? Against the silence of the Himalayas your mind will be chattering. Then you will feel more chattering, because the background is in silence. The background is the silence, and you will feel more chattering.If the real happens to you and you are unafraid, it cannot be taken away. Nothing can disturb it. Nothing can disturb it. And if something does, it is forced, it is cultivated; somehow you have managed it. But a managed silence is calmness.Universe is very compassionate, in our unconsciousness it listens, when we are calm it whispers and when we are silent it merges. In all the circumstances it gives, it is with us. It's up to us whether we can receive it or not?When Arjuna calmed down, put his arms aside and overflowing with emotions, he was emptied out of his logical mind. Now he can hear. I am saying hear and not listen.You can hear, there is no trouble about it - but you cannot listen. Listening is totally different from hearing. Listening means hearing without mind; listening means hearing without any interference of your thoughts; listening means hearing as if you are totally empty. If you have even a small trembling of thinking inside, waves of subtle thoughts surrounding you, you will not be able to listen, although you will be able to hear. And to listen to the music, the ancient music, the eternal music, one needs to be totally quiet as if one is not. When you are, you can hear; when you are not, you can listen. Krishna started speaking - knowing well that right now Arjuna will only hear and as per his practice he will be total in hearing, so possibility is that he will turn back towards his consciousness. Dignity - In Gita Verse 2.5 It would be better to live in this world by begging than to live at the cost of the lives of great souls who are my teachers. Even though desiring worldly gain, they are superiors. If they are killed, everything we enjoy will be tainted with blood.This word of Arjuna clearly come from mental laziness. He did not want to think. What I meant by, he did not want to think is - from the objective world one needs to return to the subjective world, which is connected to universe, after the observation of the fact without any judgement, then with connection with universe, which has higher intelligence, in which everything is included from love, one needs to think. That thinking has compassion for self and for others.Buddha also thinks and we too think , then what is the difference. Difference is from where we think. When you think from objective world it is bound to be judgemental, with opinion, etc. But when you return from objective world connected with your subjectivity then your thinking has universal wisdom and compassion in it. When Buddha thinks he didn’t have any agenda and expectations from his thinking. Yes he had a goal, but not an agenda.First thing, never resist the thinking but direction of the thinking needs to be changed. If you change the direction your thinking will become incapable of making you unconscious. With your thinking we become unconscious because our thinking is from objective world without returning to subjective world and connecting with the universe, in the process we follow the thinking. When we connect ourselves with our subjectivity and then think then it is universal thinking and thinking will follow us.What is the difference between thinking from objective world and thinking from subjective world:When thinking is from objective world - it is carrying with it all the emotions, attachments, judgements, opinion etc.When thinking is from subjective world - it is carrying detachments, compassion, self-dignity, etc.Self-Dignity is very humble, very simple, very innocent; it belongs to the trees. When they blossom in spring, you just look and watch their pride, their dignity. Just watch when a peacock is dancing. Those psychedelic colors, and the beautiful dance ... do you think there is any ego? But there is certainly dignity.Dignity is a totally different phenomenon, it is self-respect. Ego is domination over others. Dignity is just standing on your own feet, independent , freedom; it is not domination over others. The moment you start thinking of dominating, you are falling into the trap of the ego. And God is the greatest ego because he created everything, he dominates everything. He is present everywhere, he is all-powerful. And his reflection in the priests ... The pope claims that he is infallible. Now this is ego.A man of dignity, a man of self-respect will not say such things. Certainly he will walk straight with his head raised in dignity. He will not walk like a slave, surrendered, subdued. He will walk like a lion and roar like a lion. But that is your intrinsic energy, your intrinsic power.The power that depends on others creates the ego. The power that comes from within your own sources of life creates dignity. Meditation brings tremendous dignity, a great grace, but not even a shadow of ego is found in it.If you are capable of murdering God, you will certainly be capable of murdering his image in you. In fact, the moment God is no longer there, you will suddenly be surprised. Where has the ego gone? If the moon is not there, the reflection in the lake of the moon will disappear.Egos are reflections of one moon in different ponds, in different lakes, in different oceans, in different rivers - millions of reflections. But just remove the moon and all the reflections are removed. You don't have to remove every reflection. It will take millennia to remove all those reflections. And in fact, if the moon remains, you cannot remove the reflections.Once God is removed, you will simply find your ego is gone. It was the shadow, the reflection of God. And then you will find a totally new phenomenon, a dignity which is not a domination over others, which is not superiority over others. It is simply the joy that existence loves you, that existence creates you, that existence needs you, that you are not accidental. This gives you dignity, this gives you honor, and it is not dependent on others. It comes from your own innermost experience of your being.The moment you find yourself existential, that you belong to the whole cosmos, and the whole cosmos belongs to you, there arises a tremendous splendor in your being - Himalayan peaks of consciousness, Pacific depths of consciousness. That brings you the lion's roar.You realize for the first time you are not a slave.You realize for the first time you are not a created creature.You realize for the first time that existence is your home, you are not an outsider, and existence is nourishing you every moment.There must be a certain purpose, a certain destiny that existence is seeking through you to reach, a certain height of consciousness, a certain height of love, a certain height of compassion, understanding, wisdom, enlightenment. Existence is trying in every possible way to create a buddha in your very innermost being. The moment you are a buddha, there is dignity without any superiority.There is dignity in a rose flower. Do you think it has any power over anybody? It is so delicate, so vulnerable, but it has tremendous dignity. When it is dancing in the sun, in the rain, in the wind, it knows existence has created in him one of the most beautiful things.Dignity arises out of meditation.For Arjuna his words were coming from the objective world and not from subjective world. He is unconscious of self. He has lost his dignity. As soon as we become unconscious towards the self we lose our dignity.

Dignity - In Gita Verse 2.33 If, however, you do not perform your religious duty of fighting, then you will certainly incur sins for neglecting your duties and thus lose your reputation as a fighter.Krishna himself is fighter, he knew that when to fight and when to run away from the battlefield. Having that distinction, he is telling Arjuna to fight in this war. He is not provoking him to fight, but directing him towards his assignment of the universe.To direct him towards his assignment Krishna even say that like little bit of threatening so that Arjuna can wake up to his consciousness, he says that because if you will not perform your religious duty of fighting, then you will be certainly incur sin - as you are born in Kshatriya family your first duty is if someone wants to fight you have to accept that challenge. You have to fight with them. If you are neglecting your duties and thus lose your reputation as fighter. Here Krishna’s meaning for reputation as fighter means dignity.Dignity and ego are totally different phenomena. Dignity is non comparative whereas ego is comparative. Dignity comes from the innermost experience of one's being. Bringing out the difference between dignity and ego, "Dignity is a totally different phenomenon, it is self-respect. Don’t Renounce - In Gita Verse 2.69 What is night for all beings is the time of awakening for the self-controlled; and the time of awakening for all beings is night for the introspective sage.Krishna is now saying the person who is awake while sleeping is Yogi. It has got nothing to do which whether you live in jungle, or middle of world. Whether you have renonce the objective world or not. It’s about how we live it. That makes you Yogi, Sannyasin, not by renouncing the objective world. Everyone have to live in the world but as awaken person.This World Is Not to Be Renounced:All the religions have been teaching, “Renounce the world.” Krishna teach you, transform the world.Renouncing it is sheer cowardice, and by renouncing it, nothing significant happens — the world goes on living, producing new generations in the old pattern. And the persons who have renounced the world — they also don’t go through a transformation, for a simple reason that they lose all opportunities where they can test whether they are growing or not. You can sit in the Himalayas for a half a century and you will feel silent, but that silence is not yours; it belongs to the Himalayas. Everything is silent, eternally silent, and there is nobody to disturb you.Just to get out of the situations where you get disturbed does not mean that you are attaining peacefulness; it simply means you are running away from situations where you are certain that your peace will be disturbed. Renouncing the world has never been my idea; it was always to change it.Millions of people are suffering, and suffering for stupid reasons. It is absolutely inhuman to turn your back on it and move to the mountains or to the deserts to live peacefully there. That peace is very cheap, very superficial; it has almost no meaning. Just come back to the world and it will be disturbed, it will be shattered into pieces. And that will be immensely significant to awaken you, that what you have been thinking of as peace, silence, has been just a dream which is shattered by the reality, just as a mirror is shattered when hit by a rock… and it is shattered forever. That mirror you cannot put together again, and all those years that you were enjoying the idea that you have attained peace have gone down the drain.This world is not to be renounced. There are beautiful people, there are immensely capable people; they just have never come across a person who could have triggered a process of mutation in their life.Krishna is not for renunciation but for living in awareness, even while sleeping. We are sleeping while we are awake. He is saying be awake while sleeping also, and you will live the life of Yogi.Yoga Nidra:Yoga nidra is a state in which the body is completely relaxed, and the practitioner becomes systematically and increasingly aware of the inner world by following a set of verbal instructions. This state of consciousness is different from meditation in which concentration on a single focus is required. In yoga nidra the practitioner remains in a state of light withdrawal of the 5 senses (pratyahara) with four senses internalised, that is, withdrawn, and only hearing still connects to any instructions given. The goals of both yogic paths, yoga nidra and meditation are the same, a state of meditative consciousness called samadhi.It is among the deepest possible states of relaxation while still maintaining full consciousness. In lucid dreaming, one is only, or mainly, cognizant of the dream environment, and has little or no awareness of one's actual environment.Yoga nidra results in conscious awareness of the deep sleep state, which is called prajna in the Mandukya Upanishad.Krishna is saying to Arjuna there is no need to renounce the life and any circumstances. Live with total awareness and in the middle of the war while fighting the war you will be Witnessing Consciousness, Whole. Without renouncing anything you will be Yogi, means like Lotus. Taking birth from mud, living in the mud, still mud will not touch you. NO NEED TO RENOUNCE.

Unidentified - In Gita Verse 3.4 Not by merely abstaining from work can one achieve freedom from reaction, nor by renunciation alone can one attain perfection.In my blog Bhagavad Gita Verse 2.69 I have wrote Don’t Renounce. Krishna says again and reminds Arjuna that your renunciation is not renunciation until you live the life unidentified. If you unidentified, renunciation happens and in the very moment you will find yourself, which Krishna is saying perfection. There is no other perfection then finding oneself.Through action you can find others, but not yourself. Your presence is hidden behind all your actions. Even if there is no action, you are still there. You are deeper than the action. So, if you want to find your intrinsic self, it will not be possible through action.Then how is it to be known?Renunciation is the only path through which those who have known the ultimate reality have entered the deathless.This word renunciation is very complex. What comes to your mind when you hear it is not the true meaning. The common meaning of renunciation is that you renounce your wealth. Now it will be good to understand this.When we say that a man is a renunciant… When we say that Mahavira is a renunciant, he renounced such and such an amount of wealth; when we say that Buddha is a renunciant, he renounced his palace, his kingdom, all comforts, he renounced everything – to our minds, the meaning of renunciation is to leave something, to let go of something. But the real meaning of renunciation is that you don’t hold on to something in the first place. We think that Mahavira dropped his wealth, but in fact, he only dropped his holding on.Try to understand this as deeply as possible: we think that Mahavira left his wealth, but he only left his holding on, his clinging. The wealth was never Mahavira’s, so how could it be renounced? Only the holding on, the clinging, was his. The wealth was not Mahavira’s because it was there even before him, and it remained even after him.The empire did not belong to Buddha, it was there even before Buddha was – it was there with Buddha’s father, it was there with Buddha’s father’s father. When Buddha renounced it, then too, it still remained with someone. Buddha did not renounce a kingdom, he renounced clinging to the kingdom. That clinging was Buddha’s own.If I hold some money in my hands, everybody will say that I am holding money. The reality is that I am only keeping my fist closed – the money is not aware that it is in my fist. And when I let it go, when I drop it, it will not know that it has been dropped. The same money has been held in so many fists and it has never taken any note of it. It is only your fists that open or close.Renunciation means to drop the hold, to let go of the hold; and the other meaning is, not to hold on in the first place, to know that what is not yours is not yours. But you carry the other meaning of renunciation in your mind. A man who has money says, “This is mine.” Then he renounces it – in your sense – and he says, “I have renounced my money.” But even in the act of renunciation he does not let go of his ownership; he still believes that he has renounced his wealth.This game of “my” and “mine” is the most absurd game, but this is the whole game of life. This earth was there before you ever came here, and it will be here when you are gone. The diamonds that you possess were there before you ever came here, and when you are gone those diamonds will remain here and they will not even remember you. They are completely oblivious that you possess them. This game of possessiveness is the most foolish game there is – but this is the whole game.Gurdjieff used to say that if you start getting unidentified from things, sooner or later you will fall upon your essential being. That is the basic meaning of renunciation. Renunciation does not mean… Sannyas does not mean renouncing the world and escaping to the Himalayas or to a monastery because if you escape from the world and go to a monastery, nothing is going to change. You carry the same mind. Here in the world, the house was yours and the wife was yours; there, the monastery will be yours, the religion will be yours. It will not make much difference. The “mine” will persist. It is a mind attitude; it has nothing to do with any outside space. It is an inner illusion, an inner dream, an inner sleep.Renunciation means, wherever you are there is no need to renounce the things because in the first place you never possessed them. It is foolish to talk about renunciation as if you were the possessor and now you are renouncing. How can you renounce something which you never possessed? Renunciation means coming to know that you cannot possess anything. You can use, at the most, but you cannot possess. You are not going to be here forever – how can you possess? It is impossible to possess anything. You can use and you can be grateful to things that they allow themselves to be used. You should be thankful to things that they allow themselves to be used.
